Odéon, théâtre de l'Europe

This beautiful corridor belongs to L'Odéon, le Théâtre de l'Europe (6th arrondissement), one of the 5th French National Theaters. It was inaugurated in 1782 and was renewed between 2002 and September 2006. Needless to say that it's one of our most prestigious theaters. They don't show classic plays there but modern ones.

  2. This looks stunning and reminds me of somewhere we visited (my swiss lover and i) in the early eighties in Paris. We were looking for apartments and we looked at one with some kind of entrance like this, or were we just registering there? i don't know but it looked very much like this. Thanks for the memory, Eric.... sigh....

  4. OK, I have a question here. Does Blogger -allegedly-no-longer-Beta eat our comments nowadays? Anyway. As I was saying before my comment disappeared...

Here we go again, Eric is laying on the ground for us again! Man, that's dedication ;)

  5. Yes, Tomate, he does lay at our feet quite a lot doesn't he. Frankly, it's a little embarrassing. There's no need. Really. Oh go on then if you must, Eric. Yep, yep, just there.

I've been looking at your photos every day for nearly a year now and my seeing has changed. You are helping me to see things in a new, elegant way and think about things differently. This has been a wonderful experience for me.

Beautiful marble..and isn't it odd that all the light fixtures don't line up exactly? Hmmmmmmmm....

Ever watch any plays there yourself?

    ;)

  12. This kind of reminds me of one of those lawyer tv shows with a murderer hanging out in the shadows, waiting to get his bullet off. I've never been inside of this theatre, but from the outside, it's lovely.

  18. From the description of the ceiling painting in the photo tour of the theater: "...expressing the three fundamental attitudes of life: jubilation, pain, meditation."

This is really great. I love classic architecture. Hmm, I wonder if I should go see some somewhere...any ideas?

Le Theatre l'Odeon was wrapped by construction shrouding when I stayed near it. I wondered what it looked like. Now I'll be able to see it, finished. Thanks, Eric.

  20. Good point Michael. I expect she's just a bit busy with her gorgeous son. At that age they're a handful. She'll be back!
