Who are these people again? Never mind. ;)Actually your picture reminded me of something. Does anybody know what the exact translation of "hedge fund" is in French? Thanks.
The Hotel Sully has a hedge that looks like this. When I walked by in June,I literally stopped in my tracks as I had never heard that kind of screaming high decimal bird chatter before. When I got closer to peak inside, there were more birds per inch populated in those hedges than in a tree.
The proper name of the church is Saint Germain l'Auxerrois ( no DE ). It used to be the parish church of the kings of France when they lived in the old Louvre nearby. Bells of this church gave the sigal to start the mass killing of protestants in 1572, on Saint Barthelemy's day.Left a bigger, if not happier, mark in history than a celebrity wedding...And my translantion of hedge fund would be : fond spéculatif.
"Sans domicile fixe" - c'est l'expression courante ou apropos en 2007? Quand j'etais en France de 1972 a 1973, on les appelait "clochards". Ce qui est triste c'est qu'ils existent toujours en Europe, ainsi qu'ici aux Etats Unis.Robin
Anonyme, I think that's right - fond spéculatif.Eric, this shot is a change for you I think. Normally we see you creeping along the ground to get the photo. Here you seem to be laying on the ground!
I like how the two outer buildings appear to be bowing to the center one - cool photo!
I like it, too.
Intriguing photo! Hi Eric. I see we are both looking 'behind' today. What a fantastically blue sky you have there. Mine is hiding today behind full clouds of grey ;(
As a matter of fact, Eric, the building you show us is not the church but la Mairie du 1er arrondissement (city hotel ?). The church is on the opposite side of the tower. If I remember it well this confusion was already made in a previous post. Both the city hotel and the bell tower were built by Hitorff, also architect of gare du Nord.Very nice shot anyway.
Great shot and I'm jealous of your sky, BUT - who are the people you mentioned? I've never come across their names before.
"I see skies of blue..... clouds of whiteAnd I think to myself .....what a wonderful world."I read yesterday's post at the end of the day when I returned to my office. Jeff, Eric is right, you can't compete with two deers running past your window. Pas du tout!
Eric, not much to say?! Well, for starter you could mention how beautiful this church is inside! Of the churches I´ve visited for the first time last August, this is the one I liked the most. It has an impressive organ and a very nice atmosphere. There´s also a beautiful rose stained glass window. It is worth a visit.
An interesting, and actualy quite unusual photo for you!I see your fans have rushed in to defend any suggestions of artistic misdemeaners but a true artest never has to make excuses for anything! And I think your framing is perfectly acceptable - a personal choice and quite a good one at that!Sab
"fond spéculatif" < OK merci!
Hello! I was looking for "daily Paris picture" is Google and likely found your blog - thank you very much for all the pictures! We plan to visit Paris for the first time (with my girlfriend) in early October - is that a good time to be there? I think it would be cold, but it's hard to get vacations, you know... Thanks again - very nice pictures...!
I think Eric climbed down into the moat on the west side of the Louvre to take this photo!
Igor, October is great because it's not yet too cold. End of November through February are a different story, but October is still OK. But it might rain and it'll definitely be worth bringing a good, windproof jacket with a couple of layers underneath so you can peel them off it you get warm by walking around in Paris (you *will* walk a lot in Paris!)
Does anyone know what the building on the right is? I've been wondering about it since my first trip to Paris almost 4 years ago...
