Almost redone!
Those of you who are true long time visitors of PDP may remember this photo from September 2006, in which I photographed a stone cutter currently working on the renovation of The Tour Saint Jacques. Well the tower is now almost renovated as you can see on this photo that I just took on my way back home (yes, the sun provided me with a wonderful light...). If you want to know more about this monument that originally belonged to a church destroyed after the French revolution, go here.

That's so beautiful. The lighting is amazing and the sky is so blue. I can't wait until I'm in Paris in May...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful light indeed! I'd like some of that nice sunlight instead of the clouds and promise of snow overnight.
ReplyDeleteEnchanting light. It reminds me of Monet's Rouen Cathedral series - especially the one he titled "Rouen Cathedral, Façade (Sunset)".
ReplyDeleteHow ironic. I was just reading about this tower at work today (sloooooow day...).
ReplyDeleteThe light is gorgeous. I am jealous, as it is snowing in Chicago today.
Sigh.
I remember!
ReplyDeleteThe tower coming out of the shadows is a great effect. Very, very pretty picture.
I love the gargoyles sticking out.
I'm sure i remember it but don't see my comment so maybe not... it's all very interesting though Eric. The photo is just stunning - another Zazzle? Such a fantastic sky and with all the light and shade and true blue, the stone, mmmmm it's just lovely.
ReplyDeleteYou did it again Eric...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful...
Superb photo, Eric! Louis la Vache appreciates the link to l'histoire du tour Saint-Jacques. When Louis was living in Paris, he lived near le tour and was curious about its story. No one he asked knew...so it's Eric to the rescue!
ReplyDeleteThe lighting is fabulous! Couldn't have been any better, love the gold with the brilliant blue sky...one of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteNice photo!
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine the dedication that the stonemason's job takes? To work on something so beautiful for such a long time... wonderful!
I'm SO glad the tower is almost done. I spend a lot of time in that area when I'm in Paris and I was really getting tired of the scaffolding covering the beautiful tower. You've captured it very well Eric -- love the sun shining on it with those dark clouds making it pop! Can't wait to see it when I'm in Paris this fall!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great view! Amazing achievement! It must be staggering living in a city with all that "art" woven throughout the fabric of your life, Eric. You do well with the Parisian sun and your camera!
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Juneau,Alaska!
ReplyDeleteAmazing shot! Good job!
Have a great day!
Gwyn
I have just discovered your blog and it is one of my new favorites. Your photos are lovely and your love for your city is evident. You make me want to come to Paris!
ReplyDeleteWhat a thrill Eric! It's fantastic to be able to actually see the tower next time I visit Paris.
ReplyDeleteI was excited enough last year when I passed by it and saw it was being renovated because it meant that in short time we all would have one more monument in Paris re-open to the public!
You snapped the photo at exactly the right moment! Lovely light and color.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!

A very beautiful photo and building.
ReplyDeleteHey, it's nice to know I'll finally be able to see it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely photo. We've learned something else about Eric: he commands the sun!
Come on Eric... Tell the truth about Paris...! THIS day what light and blue. There are about 363 days that are grey and wet...
ReplyDeleteBut Paris is still a wonderful city to visit and to live in...
The sun and sky worked together to give you a nice canvas, Eric. I like this photo.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend.
Abraham Lincoln in Brookville, Ohio.
Just beautiful light you captured. We had a similarly lovely cloudy sky with bright sun at sunset this evening, but predicted snow sometime overnight. . .and my tulips just started blooming a couple days ago! Le tour's renovation is turning out wonderfully! Happy Friday, and good start to a restful weekend, I hope!

The suns light....a gift from God....Priceless and perfect
ReplyDeleteBack to yesterday's post and Serero's Eiffel Tower project, considering it a temporary one, I must say I was amazed and very impressed by it's beauty and the elegance.
ReplyDeleteThx Eric for letting us know about that.
Good one, Eric. reminds me that light is also one of the very important aspect of photography :-)
ReplyDeleteThat is wonderful!!! The light, the blue, the sun, the stone (all the work already done and almost ended). How nice it is to see that!
ReplyDeleteGreat you managed to be there at the same time than the sun!! It is a question of timing, isnt'it?
Your photo exudes beautiful Parisian warmth and azure clarity. I yearn for Paris. We are in the middle of another blizzard here, in New Hampshire . . .several inches of snow accumulation already this morning (Friday). . .
ReplyDelete{sigh} Another amazing photo Eric. :) I remember walking by this statue in January when it was "all wrapped-up." Wow, the renovated statue is just spectacular. It is exciting how you captured this scene, off-set, at an angle, with the blue sky background.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday!
Light and sun? Well if you were in Paris today you'd think I took this photo some other time. As today is really rainy and cloudy ;(
ReplyDeleteLucio. Your reference to Monet is flattering, but a little too much isn't?!
Lynn, Zazzle? Hum I don't know. You'd have to ask to big Zazzle chief: Michael!
You're right Louis, this Tour is kinda like everyone knows it's here but nobody knows its story. fascinating though.
Actually Katie, they just removed the scaffolding recently (and there is still part of it at the bottom of the tower if you look closely). I was checking the progress every time I passed by it waiting for the right time to take the photo.
Thanks Coltrane
Wow Gwyn. Juneau Alaska. That's where I want to be right now! I've always dreamed of going to Alaska.
Hey Robin, welcome. Do come to Paris, it's not that complicated you know...
Yes Monica, next time you come it will be totally renewed and still clean (well depending on how soon you'll be coming!!)
Jeff "We've learned something else about Eric: he commands the sun!" LOL. If you were here today, you'd be complaining, believe me...
Isabelle LOL. It's not because now you live in a sunny area (how sunny BTW?) that you must spread the rumor that Paris is never sunny LOL
Thanks Abraham. have a nice WE too
Actually Kim. you know what. I would not mind a little snow in Paris too. I know you're probably fed up with it in Seattle, but here, it never lasts very long and it gives the city a nice new flavor
Wyverex. Maybe ;)
GG. You're welcome! I'm surprised you did not know it already.
I_am-Sam. Light? Tell me about it!
Corinne. True: a question of timing; I should leave the office earlier more often;))
Jeanne. I'm not going to repeat what I said about the snow. As in your case I suppose you're really fed up with it!
Happy Friday to you too Jennifer. Now you must come back to see it unwrapped ;)
Eric of course it won't take long for me to go back to Paris. I can't stay away from the city of my dreams for too long.
ReplyDeleteJeff I only read your email today, sorry for the delay....
ReplyDeleteI've replyied it, oh and I looove the photos!!!!
I agree with you, Eric probably commands the sun and the moon in Paris, he is our "Eric Almighty"
From Cali, sorry for the delay in aswering you email too. I was very surprised and pleased that you wrote me a few lines! :-))
Eric I didn't even notice the scaffolding on the bottom part of the tower -- you were able to capture the light so well on the upper part that I didn't even notice! You're a master, that's for sure. Monica you should plan to visit Paris this fall; we could have a drink!
ReplyDeleteFantastic job. But it did look spooky and a little scary when it was all black and sooty. I liked it then too.
ReplyDeleteKatie when are you going to be there?
ReplyDeleteI think Pont Girl will be there this fall too... it would be great if we could all meet and have a drink! Or two!
What a lovely building The Saint Jacques. Sure nice to see them renovating it. Elaine Cooke
ReplyDeleteIf you click on the photo and enlarge it, you can see a hint of blue sky reflected in the stained glass. Beautiful. This is just another thing I didn't see when I was in Paris. I refuse to regret it, and will simply put it on my list of reasons to return!
ReplyDeletela perspective et la lumiere qui tombe sur la tour, rende la photo impressionnante. Bravo
ReplyDeleteMonica I'll be in Paris for a month from Sept 20 to Oct 20! That would be so fun if a whole group of us were there at the same time. And yes, one drink probably wouldn't improve my French enough, so at least two! And maybe we can convince Lynn to come to Paris too!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. You've really made me want to visit the City of Light!
ReplyDeleteEric, yes you should ! And me too ;)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Eric!! The lighting is just perfect. Thanks for the tip about the stained-glass, Petrea, I usually enlarge the photos too, but sometimes forget.
ReplyDeleteBoo-hoo Katie! I won't be in Paris until October 27'ish. Sounds like I will have just missed you. Monica, have you firmed up your dates yet?
Are any of you coming to England apart from Monica?
ReplyDeleteRose when I go I'll check with you again your schedule because I don't want to miss you when I get to the UK! (of course I won't miss you there, you're the reason I'm going to cross the Channel!
ReplyDeleteKatie and Pont Girl, have not decided my dates yet, the only thing I know so far is that it will have to be next semester, so, probably fall then.
Convincing Lynn... that's not a very simple task...
Bummer I'll miss you in Paris Pont Girl! However I might have to make a trip to LA soon though. After looking at all of Petrea's Pasadena photos, I'm excited to make a trip south from the Bay Area. Petrea said we should have a PDP gathering in LA!
ReplyDeleteMonica if you visit Paris in mid-October, you could catch me, then Pont Girl! We'll work on Lynn. I bet if Eric agreed to meet us all, Lynn could be convinced to pop over. She'd hate to miss that!
Katie: Please do visit Petrea & me when in LA! We definitely should have a PDP gathering in LA, although Jeff is prone to stopping by and not telling anyone he's here ;)
ReplyDeleteEric: Yes, probably.
ReplyDeletehe he Katie i'll try!
ReplyDeleteOh boy! A Pasadena Daily Photo gathering in...Oh. Pardon me, of course, a Paris Daily Photo gathering in LA. Can't wait! Katie, you just let us know when.
ReplyDeleteWe'll work something out for the Bay Area one of these days, too, unless Tomate and Louis dislike the idea of visitors.
Eric, look what you've started! When world peace happens, we'll be thanking Eric Tenin.
Petrea this is one of the great things about Eric's PDP. Take a look at older posts from last year, there has been a gathering in the Bay area before when Eric visited the US.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure there's many other gatherings to come!
Yes, I agree Petrea -- Eric is responsible for lots of wonderful happenings around the world! Did you have any idea what you were starting Eric when you put your first photos on the internet? Just amazing.
ReplyDeleteI LIKE this photograph from the yellows of the buildings to the shadows to the crisp blues of the sky and the contrasting clouds of purples / grays/ whites. Nice.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous photo -- the lighting and color is really stunning!
ReplyDeleteI continue to love your blog!
