Cocktail time
Crisis, what crisis?! Today, at lunch time I went to a press conference held by Microsoft at L'Etoile, a restaurant located close to... La place de l'Etoile. At the end they served a buffet lunch that was really delicious. The highlight of it was the sweet part, that I had to photograph for you. Look at the the old style white pots in particular; they did not contain yogurt but rice pudding with a spoonful of crème de marron (chestnut cream). To die for! Am I spoiled? Yes, sometimes...

Microsoft really knows how to throw a party! I mean it, they really do!
ReplyDeleteI went to the launch of Unified in October 07 in San Francisco (the CIO of L'Occitane was there, too, by the way) and there was JUST SO MUCH FOOD!!! It was unbelievable. The techies presentation kind of s..cked, but they hada the most unbelieveable display of cool food stuff on this side of the ocean ;) They really went all out.

Fabulous food photography Eric! You know that you're going to now have to describe every single one of these items in detail for us to be fully satisfied. I like the look of the mini cakes with a hazelnut on top. And the chocolate mousse.

ReplyDeleteThis is a delectable photo. I love rice pudding chocolate and clementines or oranges or whatever the fruit is. And tarts. Okay, I love good food, especially when it's well-presented.
It's a good thing Microsoft knows how to throw a party, because it's looking more and more like they don't know how to make operating systems...
I am dieting so I can eat well on my one day in Paris next week. I had disgusting pork loin I made the other day from Trader Joes, boiled snow peas(mange tout) with nothing on it and 1/4th of a phoenix fake croissant(not flaky and no layers inside). This picture is driving me crazy.

Quite a rare thing for me, Phx, I had bacon and eggs. A piece of cheesecake which I made, it was delicious if I dare say so, and porridge. Oh and apples and a banana. Not in that order lol.

I had a burrito in a bowl for lunch (burrito without the wrapping). It's pretty good!

ReplyDeleteOk, ok, just so I don't get any false sympathy, for the football game yesterday I made mussels, grilled tuna, baguette, crackers, cheese, fresh veggies, broiled zucchini, and wine. and wine. did I mention wine? we had some wine, too.
ReplyDeleteNine days until I see and feel warmth. Come on, LA, treat me nice. (The residents certainly are so far!)
...had a "Kind of Blue"-berry yogurt, a honey granola "12 bar blues", a ham and "Chet Baker" sandwich, with some "Clifford Brownies" for dessert. Washed'em all down with some Louis Arm-strong coffee. :-)

ReplyDeleteI have to admit I indulged a LOT more than usual today. I had 5 cookies today--something I don't think I've done in several years, if not decades. But, they were peanut butter no-bakes, so the oatmeal is really good for you, isn't it? Please...someone agree with me! Usually I'm a 'one piece of dark chocolate is good for the whole day' kind of girl.
But even if you are spoiled, Eric, we really appreciate that you share it with us!! (That makes it okay.)

ReplyDeleteGlad to see that someone[you and tomate..]are enjoying the generosity of Microsoft. They are really not known for being generous[or pleasant]for that matter, and I deal with their ilk on a regular basis.
I loved the website for the restaurant, it was really great. We used to have a restaurant L'Etoile in SF also, and it was at that time one of the best in the city.
Christie: Those cookies are loaded with Vitamin P. Just keep telling yourself.

ReplyDeleteShell you need to roll that pastry out to a square, spread on the Nutella, roll up into a type of Swiss roll, then cut off into slices. Lay them on their sides on a baking tray in the oven for around 20 mins. Yum! Enjoy your naughty day.

ReplyDeleteWhat a good idea Michael! I'm a big fan of easy cooking, I can tell you. Do you want an easy cheesecake too? It's really delicious.
ReplyDeleteBash up some digestive biscuits in a bag. Add a couple of jollops of melted butter in a bowl(or hot water if on a diet - pah! this is cheesecake). Line a dish with this stuff.
Put two packs of cream cheese (Philly) in a bowl with 10 tablespoons icing (frosting) sugar. Make a lemon/orange jelly and pour some in until thickish. Put on top of the 'stuff' and put in the fridge to set. Voila! LOL
p.s. I do know how to cook more properly than this, but this is Lynn's whizz cookery. lol.

I am craving marron de glace and when I saw your comment about the rice pudding with a spoonful of creme de marron, I squealed! Eric, you deserved to be spoiled for treating us with beautiful phots all the time! ;)

ReplyDeleteYup Lynn, "wheaty biscuits" are marketed here as graham crackers. Graham cracker crusts are standard for cheesecakes here, but there's been a move to Oreo Cookie crusts, crumbled after removing the creme filling.

ReplyDeleteOh, I'm a fan of a properly cooked cheesecake. (and if I do say so myself, I make a pretty awesome one!!) Graham crackers are the best crust, with a little cinnamon and nutmeg. Can't leave out freshly ground nutmeg. Then, 3 packages Philly, 3 eggs, and 3/4 cup of granulated sugar whipped together with my wonderful KitchenAid Mixer til fluffy, baked in the crust until almost set, chilled in the fridge, then devoured. Also good with a little melted strawberry jam on top. And a few chocolate covered strawberries for show. Worth the wait! Of course, you could add a little espresso powder for a coffee cheesecake, swirl in fruit for something different, or just add caramel for the ultimate in sweet treats. I'd better stop. I'm getting hungry. :) Now I'm going to have to have a party so I can make a cheesecake!
