Love the photo! Wishing you a very Happy (but belated) Birthday. Yes indeed, Paris is the most beautiful city, truly and forever. I just got returned from a week long trip and am completely entranced by all I experienced there. I even saw some of the places and street art you have posted here! The interdiction of taking picture inside a museum (display of works attracting copyright) is due to the Berne Convention (signed and implemented by USA, France, UK, …). The general provision of Article 9 (1) provides that authors of literary and artistic works ... shall have the exclusive right of authorizing the reproduction of these works, in any manner or form.

The protection lasts for 70 years in Europe starting from the day of the death of the authors.

Regarding church buildings (work of architecture) which in UK (for France I don’t know) are protected by copyright it should be stressed that many churches are a little too old to qualify. This could be the same for the works inside (sculptures, paintings, you name it).

What a pleasant way to see a painting!!
Did you enjoy the exhibition? I did.
The expressionism is a fabulous movement, full of strong feelings and commited against the war and its atrocities...One of my favorite.
I really really like this picture.
By the way, I think it's more Conrad Felixmüller than Carl Felixmüller ... :)

Am surprised you could photograph in a gallery or museum. Is it allowed in Paris? I tried photographing in a church in Menton - also in a museum - both in Menton - and was stopped. Same in Monaco.

Perhaps the tourist - and you - just grabbed a quick shot with no one looking? I'm curious as to the law, if there is one.

A museum is a great theme. I saw the "Burghers of Calais" at the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, CA. The same characters as the one in le Musee Rodin, but set much closer together than the one in Paris. It made it even more intense. I learned from PDP that there are several versions of this sculpture around the world, so I guess I was celebrating Eric's birthday and didn't even know it! Thanks for the great education, mon ami. The Norton Simon has a fantastic collection of Impressionists and Van Goghs, as well as a few Maillol sculptures.

Anonyme..I haven't seen the exhibition yet, but I would bet that most of the subjects are political in nature, as that was what most of those German painters were painting then.

Happy belated Birthday Eric. You should adopt Elizabeth's approach...which is to consider it "birthday MONTH" (at least when it comes to hers).

The musée Maillol should also definitely be on the list of museums to see while in Paris if you're here for more than a few days. It's small enough to do in a couple of hours and always seems to have interesting exhibits.

This exhibit at the Maillol is really interesting, and when I was there it was full of German speaking visitors obviously fascinated with the subject covered.

Another painter I liked who was on display from the same era was Otto Dix. A really interesting period for artists of this time.
