Looking at this one again more closely now, I just noticed the lights in the crowd coming from the cameras and camera phones that mimic the fireworks around the Tour Eiffel. It's such a cool effect.

How long has this tradition been in place? I know I did not see such a display when I was in Paris for Bastille Day in 1991, and I cannot imagine that I would have missed it if it were taking place. I did enjoy a free performance of l'Orchestre de Paris and the American Ballet Company at the Opera Garnier (my favorite building in Paris!) that day; being there and singing La Marseillaise with everyone as the orchestra played beneath the Chagall is one of my favorite memories!

Eric, I ditto the clever Ms M's comments. There are not enough superlatives for this shot (although Ms M came up with 14 for the 14th!).

Are those lighted screens all cameras and camera phones? Now THAT'S a true 21st century scene! Bravo. And thank you for bringing us right there on the lawn with you.
