The subject in the photo DOES look like he's wearing a sombrero, which gives him the look of a person from Mexico.
I think this Elizabeth over reacted about stereotyping. Here in the U.S. we are having a big problem with illegal immigrants coming from south of the border and it's a heated debate. Some, like Elizabeth do not think we can function without them and take offense at the drop of a hat, or sombrero in this case.
I think the description of the photo is fitting and yes, quite an unexpected find I would think!

Actually like I explained earlier, I can understand you do not like the association "Mexican=always asleep" like I don't like the association "French=always carrying a baguette and a beret!". And I suppose the English don't like the association "English=always carrying an umbrella" and the Americans "Americans=always speaking loud and ignorant about the rest of the world".

These are stereotypes and like all stereotypes part of them are true or have been true at some point.

I happen to have been to Mexico and I don't recall having seen anyone sleeping in the sun with a big sombrero!

Vicent, you should not take it as a bad thing.
A lot of people think of Mexico as the perfect place to relax :) because of the warm weather and the way people are so friendly and welcoming.
I have been to Mexico a few times and love it...:) and trust me there is nothing better than your burritos, mojitos and a siesta ;)

I agree, I used a typical stereotype, this guy could be anything, as people from all nationalities take naps!

And like you, I don't like it when I hear we take two hour lunches or don't bathe.

Now, should I fight stereotypes by writing something people would think is incoherent (such as "I did not dig out an old photo from a trip to Sweden") or come up with what people expect to read?
