Anything to confess?

I am sure you do! I came across this unexpected statue in a church that is not so famous although pretty beautiful. It's called l'Eglise Saint Gervais/Saint Protais (after the name of two twin brothers killed by Emperor Nero), was built in the 16th century and it is located in the 4th arrondissement, on former swamps.
Update: a reader tells me that this statue is the one of Jean Marie Vianney, also known as Le Curé D'Ars and who, among other things, "specialized" into confession. No wonder then...

  3. It's le curé d'Ars, OK. And yes, what a great statue! The church is great too, and I'll make sure to check it out next time I am in Paris. The curé d'Ars always spooked me out a bit - I saw his tomb when I was a kid (and I think he's kind of semi-mummified, but I am not totally certain of that. If you go here and scroll to the August 3, 2004 entry, you will see what I mean) - and he had the gift of divination.

  4. > Thank you Love in Black and White and Isido.

And a special thanks to Elisabeth for her links. Actually I did not know the history of this Curé d'Ars but it looks pretty interesting. The reader who reported to me who he was told me in his mail that he felt very close to him. And I kinda understand better now.

  5. Forgive me if I seem uncultured, but the Father Confessor's posture reminds me more of a diner in a resteraunt attempting to eavesdrop on a conversation at a nearby table... ;-)
