Eiffel Tower in the mist

I know it's not very original to show the Eiffel Tower on a blog about Paris, but one, I do not show it very often, two, it's really beautiful at night and three, the current mist gives it a special flavour. Why miss it?! By the way, the light beam you can see in the mist comes from 4 searchlights that have been (re)installed in 2000; they turn around the top of the tower at a slow pace and are visible 80 kilometers (50 miles) away.

  1. I can't speak for others but for me, the 1st time I was in Paris & spotted the Eiffel Tower...well, let's just say that it was more exciting than the 1st time I spotted the Hollywood sign while racing down the freeway shortly after moving to the LA area. haha

I love mist. especially cold mist.

  3. > Will. The grass is always greener... I was very excited when I saw the Hollywood sign the first - and only - time!

    > Pat. Interesting to know. For those of you who don't know, Ivry is a close suburb in the south/eastern part of Paris.

  4. Ever since they installed the spotlight and the sparkling lights, it has given the eiffel tower a whole new appeal. No matter "how original" it is Eric, an eiffel tower post from time to time is much appreciated.

  5. I agree with Michael. I love seeing the tower on this post, I loved seeing the tower when I was in Paris. And I will love seeing it every time I go back.

  6. It has been many years since I visited Paris last. For some reason this photo has drawn me out to tell you how much your work means to me. Maybe it's Christmas this year.
I've been sneaking around your website for some time, now, and every time I start my PC I'm anxious to see if there's a new photo loading. I'm sure sometimes I boot up just to see!

Keep Paris coming. Dying in suburban NY, Richard.

  9. I see the Eiffel Tower, well, the top of it, every day from my little Paris studio, and I never, ever tire of it!

Who cares how often it has been photographed before..? You photograph what strikes you as beautiful or interesting or unusual at any given moment in time... there are no rules, only what you feel. I'm tempted to turn my camera the other way from the last photo on my blog and show people what I see of our wonderful tower, cliche or not. But being in London for Christmas at the moment it might be a bit difficult!

Say hi to Lady Eiffel for me - I miss her!

  10. In the US we have had 43 Presidents [and many more Secretaries of War/Defence, I warrent]. We have two enduring gifts from the French: The Statue of Liberty and General Elections. Thank you France.

  11. The last time I was Paris, I was told upon arrival at my hotel that I would have a view of the tower from my balcony. The first thing I did was to throw open the doors and run outside. At that instant, the sparkling lights started to flash - it was magical!

Like Richard, sab and many others, I also look forward to your blog every morning. Thanks for your special view of Paris!

I visited the Eiffel Tower at night and think it is more beautiful lit up. This brings back good memories for me.

  16. I didn't think much of the Eiffel Tower when I was growing up in Paris as a kid, but since I came to the States and brought back hundreds of Eiffel Tower souvenirs over the years for co-workers and friends , let me tell you, every time I go back to Paris and happen to catch sight of a little piece of it over the roof tops (way over the roof tops) it almost feels like finding a long lost friend or something.

Thank you for that picture. A Parisian blog wouldn't be a Parisian blog without the occasional Eiffel Tower pic now and then. :-)

  17. It's lovely. Brings back memories of watching the lights on the tower being turned off at 4AM one winter evening. Thanks for that :)

  18. I say still don't assume, there are still some of us who would love to see the Eiffel especially when we can't get there on our own.
