Grande Roue (Ferris Wheel)

Every winter the Grande Roue (Ferris wheel) returns to the Tuileries gardens (Jardins des Tuileries) at the very bottom of the Champs Elysées, on the other side of the Place de la Concorde. From L'Etoile (Charles de Gaulle Place) where I took this photo before the wheel was installed, the view is gorgeous. I will show it to you soon.

  1. I love the white in the night. It is an excellent trip to take....a quiet view above the Tuilleries, the Louvre, Place de la Concorde....Ahhh....Paris is wonderful.

  2. I don't like wheels and things like this, but the picture is really beautiful.

Je n'aime pas les grandes roues et autres attractions foraines, mais cette photo est vraiment belle.

  4. I love ferris wheels because of their structural beauty. I love that this one is white, very fitting for Paris.

  5. I want to run up to it and jump on! *sigh* I did ride one a few weeks ago at the Marché de Noël in Montreux, S. I'm hooked.

  6. Many will know this, but the original Ferris wheel was invented by the engineer Ferris for the 1893 World's Columbian Exhibition in Chicago. After the previous world's fair, Chicago was seeking something more grand than the Eiffel Tower. The Ferris wheel was pretty good, a technical marvel for the time and, as your photo shows, a lovely image.

  9. Eric - I am pretty sure that it was there this summer, wasn't it? it is quite spectacular, although you'd have to pay me very big money to go on it. I am deadly afraid of heights.

  10. Merci Michelle!

Elisabeth, are you sure it was there last summer? I actually don't remember.

  11. I like it a lot better at night than during the day. The first time I saw it there, I thought it was a little out of place, there, at Place de La Concorde, but the view from up there must be incredible indeed.
