Old French Car

I love old cars. This one is presently on display in the Peugeot (a French car manufacturer) window shop avenue de la Grande Armée (16th arrondissement). It is called a "Coach" 402, was first introduced at the 1935 automobile exhibit and was then "mass" produced 75 172 times! Imagine, it was one of the first cars to have an inside heating with defrost capabilities and enough room on the dashboard to install a... radio set! Pricing would start at 23 900 French Francs for a regular model (that is roughly 16 000 € / 19 500 $).

  1. Someday I will have to post a photo of my last old car - a 1935 Singer LeMans, but as I don't have it any more, it would be a bit of a cheat. By comparison this Peugeot is amazingly modern.

I can safely say that in all the years I lived in Paris, I have never seen a Peugeot that good looking!

  4. Hi Eric, this reminds me of a shot of an ultra-futuristic Peugeot that I shot in the Champs Elysees showroom a while back - I'll have to dig it out. They certainly have some stunning displays, that's for sure. Even that 'grande-gueuled' (gaping mouthed) new model was pretty show-stopping!

  6. Truly beautiful.

My ideal car would be a Citroen DS. I just adore them and could really see myself driving one ;-)

  7. Should one imagine that "23,900 French Francs (that is roughly 16,000€ " was worth about 100,000€ in today's money?

  12. Just a quick word - sorry I have very little time at the moment - but Michael and Buzzgirl the 16 000 € are today's money.

    Otherwise it would be 3 600ish €

  14. Tell me, didn't the hero, Gorodish (sp?) in the movie Diva, drive a car just like this? I will have to rent the movie now just to satisfy my curiousity... It is a very classy ride.
