A cool place to stay in Paris for students

If you are a student currently planning on going to Paris to study and if you are looking for a place to stay you might start by having a look at the Cité internationale universitaire de Paris, a huge park where no less than 5 600 students can find accommodations, libraries, sport facilities, concert halls, etc. It's a great place to stay and to visit for the 38 houses that have been built between 1925 and 1969 all have a different style. Have a look at their web site to find out how to stay there. (View on Google Maps)

  4. Jenny, it's Paris 14, if memory serves, way south of Paris. The campus sits right at the edge of the border of Paris and its banlieue, but it's very easy to get to and from.

Great shot, Eric, I love it. I just love the colors, the mix of blue and brick, the curves (small arch through the big arch) the reflexion of the sky in the windows... and to top it off, this campus brings back good memories! Thanks!

  7. So, I have endly founnd the middle to send a comment here-in. I was on this place two years ago. At these two days of January 2004 I hear at conferences about Thomas Mann and Heinrich Heine in the House Heinrich Heine (House of Germany) in the Cité Internationale and we did eat here, in this building.

  8. It is really a unique place to see, and there is a nice parc (Montsouris) in front of it.
Eric, the stones of the arch looks unreal on this wonderful pic. Is it natural?

  9. It looks custom made for students, what with its blue-denim appearing roof (or is that [serge] de Nimes?).

Another fabulous photograph. We are so lucky to have you as a Daily Photo blogger. Otherwise we would have to pay a great deal to purchase a book of your photos of Paris. Of course it would be found in the fine arts section of only the better bookstores.

  10. yes there is a really nice park (16 hectares!) just in front of it. A real pleasure to have picnic there with friends when the weather is nice... p.s. you may also take it as a starting point for an easy walk, crossing Paris from south to north to visit some popular or non-popular tourist spots : Cité Université, park Montsouris, China Town area, Quartier Latin, Ile de la Cité, Marais, Republique, Canal St-Martin, Buttes-Chaumont, end at the Porte de la Villette (about 20km according to guidebook). In France, these kinds of walking itineraries (all over the country) are quite popular and they call it GR (grande randonée). If you pay attention, you may see some tiny marks (white, blue, yellow etc...) on some lamppost or corners of wall for indications of treks... You may of course also find their GR guidebooks. Have good visits!

  13. Mark, la Cité universitaire is not only for young students: researchers and people attending academic conferences can also stay there, though it costs us a bit more.

  15. Hey, Eric and Tomate Farcie: In response to my May 9 comment, you both said you like the idea of getting together. I'll be in Paris May 31 - June 9. I'm staying in an apartment in the Marais (not the Cite University--see, I needed to tie in to the photo!) Eric, the wine is optional, c'est ne pas grave. Let's meet! That would be fun.

  21. Jeff, I'd love it. I have to check with my family to see what their schedule is (the main reason for this trip back to Paris is to go see them and spend a little time with each of them); as soon as I know what their schedule is, then, I'll have a better idea of what my availability will be. But I should be available before you leave, maybe June 7 or 8 or 9 for dinner and a movie.. ;-) Seriously, it'd be very cool to meet a bunch of "Internautes" in Paris! Looking forward to it. :-D
