Roland Garros tennis tournament - the cheap seats

If you are into tennis, you are probably aware that the Roland Garros tennis tournament has just started in Paris. I went there today just to take a picture. I could have shown you a tennis court (more orange!) but instead I chose to photograph this guy sneaking a peek at a court behind the grids, from the street... Yes it's hard to get tickets!

  1. And these tickets probably don't come cheap, either!

Hey, it looks like the sun is back? Good deal! Cool picture. The guy looks kind of cute, too ;)

  2. Oh Eric - wow! How clever!

The angle even has him looking like he's on the edge of his seat, and because of that, so are we.

  3. You can find tickets even for the finals if you act fast and go to the hotels where the athletes stay. You can find these hotels by the minivans stamped with Roland Garros logo parked outside of them. Some of the personnel of these hotels if you be gentle and give a generous tip could find one or two tickets for you!!!
The athletes prefer quiet places, so be discreet!
    Good luck!

  6. Actually, I like the way the heads of the people seem to sit in the holes of the fence. I know, I'm weird.

Does anybody know if Roland Garros is the same as the French Open? Or is that golf? I had never heard of Roland Garros until I moved here, but apparently lots of people have.

  7. Nice shot!

I actually saw a satellite shot of Roland Garros on the Weather channel today. Google Earth is so great.

  8. The French Open and Roland Garros are the same. Americans call it the open - but in France it is called by the name of the stadium/complex.

  10. Well, I'm glad anonymous cleared that up. I wonder how much that guy could see from where he was standing.

  12. Oh Sari, I was about to send you this link, but I figured I'd better check if you had already commented—an lo and behold here you are! — Greetings from San Antonio Daily Photo.

I love the shot through the gate. I've taken many myself this way.

  13. Great shot Eric. Reminds me of a Henri Cartier-Bresson photograph - of another age but still photographed in Paris. Bien fait.

  14. "Nasty GG" is cool, Michael. It's just Parisian humor ;-)
