Bastille day fireworks

Traditionally, on the evening of Bastille day, most of French cities have a fireworks show. I have been lucky enough to watch the one of Paris from the rooftop of a building close to Sacre Coeur, so not only did I see the Paris fireworks, but also the ones of the cities around Paris and, much more than that, enjoy the magnificent view of Paris at night (I will show you more of it in the days to come).

  2. Oooh la belle bleue!!! Ahhh!!!

OK, I have a question... Where would one go, if one needed some cheap accommodations in Paris between July 20 and 23 ??? Does anybody know?

  5. I went to Trocadero and it was a very "average" show this year.
There was a concert (Mozart - since 2006 is l'annee Mozart) but speakers were not loud enough.
Last year was so outstanding with the Brasilian music and the fireworks shooting out from the Tower !!! I posted a couple of images from this year and last year on my blog to be found at

  7. In Dijon,(Burgundy, France) on "Lac Kir", it was a very "average" show as well.
    Not even a "boouquet"! :(

What's the English for "bouquet" by the way? This word applies to the last and most beautiful part of firework displays.

  8. You surely had a nice view from the rooftop. Beautiful shot.

  9. Moino - the boouquet you refer to (I didn't realise it was called that!) is called the Grand Finale in English.

I agree with aphotographerinparis -the show seemed quite average this year.

  11. What a sight you might have. I remember seeing 10 fireworks at the same time, over Paris Roofs, it's a joy of life.

  12. Gorgeous!

Moino -- I think that we would say "grand finale" for the end of a fireworks display. "Grand" is pronounced the English way and "finale" the Italian way -- you can count on the English language to be weird!

  14. From the Pont des Invalides, where the 2005 show was fantastic, this year's show looked "cheap"... The fireworks were shot too low to be visible, I think just a hundred people in Champ the Mars could have enjoyed it; banal patterns also, not a gem of fantasy. Next year I'll go relax on the countryside

  18. Great pic! I was up on Montmartre with a few hundred people waiting for the fireworks off the Eiffel but never saw any (from 11-12:30am) I guess we were too late? Or not looking in the right direction
