Japonese designer

I took this shot on the occasion of a giant picnic in rue de la chaise (7th arrondissement) that was being held by the local boutique and shop keepers. One of the boutiques is that of Ken Okada, a Japanese designer who had the idea of hanging a piece of sheers in the middle of the street with her name on it. Her fashion designs seem quite original and so is her shop, but I'm not a fashion expert! For more, you can see her website and have a look at her latest fashion show.

  1. I'm not a fashion expert, either, but I do know that any time I see models on a runway, they have some pretty weird clothes on.

  3. As a matter of fact, I am a fashion expert, certainly about the things I like. And I have a black cotton Ken Okada summer dress I like a lot.

I also like this blog, Eric. Vos photographies et commentaire me portent à une ville que j'adore. Merci mille fois.

  5. Ditto (Idem) Fred and Tomate, but if you look at them as "art" some are pretty funky. Like the linked website too Eric.

  9. Nice picture.
Her clothes look interesting, but certainly not designed for short women or women who have breast. =)

  10. Natalie, when has the fashion world considered women with breasts? ;)

  11. Of course fashion is art. What else could it be? Like all art, you may like it or not. Even if I don't like a building, I can learn about and appreciate the architectural intent. The Okada fashions, light, lithe, Japonese, with diagonal cuts for drama, are artful. Not at all for every woman, nor is Impressionism or Fauve for everyone.

  12. Jeff: interesting comment, and food for thought ...

If I had to close my eyes and give a definition of what "fashion" is, the first thought that'd come to my mind would be ... "big business," first and foremost.

Guess it all depends on how you look at it... Starts out with an artistic creation, then off to mass production and people are expected to keep up with the new styles every so often or risk at the very least to be subjected to the moqueries of the fasion police, whether it looks good on them or not ...

  15. Je connais pas la boutique, mais je connais bien la rue. J'y ai etudie 3 ans. beaucoup de souvenirs...

fashion... there would be so much to say about it... karl, chanel, dior, ysl... usually the clothes are not wearable, but who cares ? for me, what matters is that they make people dream...
