Catch of of the day

I took this photo yesterday (Saturday) on the bank of the Port de Plaisance de l'Arsenal (Yacht Club), near Bastille. There, not only can you enjoy a nice walk, have lunch in the local restaurant or have a look at the boats; but apparently, also fish for your dinner according to Nicolas and Fabien. Quite honestly, I did not think this was possible and, frankly, considering the water pollution, I would not eat those fish!

  1. Eric, you've spelt the title wrongly. It's "catch". Keep up the great work though.

  5. Yes, I hope these guys were just in it for the sportsmanship of fishing, and not planning to EAT those fish. They probably had four eyes.

I really enjoy your photos; you're very talented and have a great eye.

  6. Cool shot! Look at that, they both got one! And the kid on the right got a pretty good size fish, too, he must be really pleased!

I wonder what that sign behind him says? "No Fishing" maybe? ;)

I love this neighborhood. It still has the feel of the old Paris I once knew ... (sigh) (sigh) (nostalgia) ...

  7. No thank you, city fish are a bad idea to eat! In Indy we have a river and the only thing getting fished out of it are people with cement shoes! EEEK!

  8. I hope they were not working for a local restaurant. I like how shelly calls them "city fish", thats a great description. I like the photo of life around Paris Eric. Thanks.

  9. What kind of fish were they Eric? I'm with Tomate about the fish on the right. Pretty big for what I expect to come out of that river!

  12. It just goes to show you, this old saying applies to the world -- "you can take a frenchman out of the country but you can't take the country out of a frenchman"!

  13. This is an area I have to visit next time I am in Paris. I am totally unfamiliar with it.

Hey, Bold Soul - I think that, before developing four eyes, fish that swim in polluted water become hermaphrodites.

  14. Love your subtle play on poisson/poison in your comments Eric. :) And they have the audacity to call fish that did not come from salt water / the sea, "FRESH water fish". Yeah, for entertainment purposes only, me thinks.

  15. I am amazed that anyone had the idea to try fishing in that water in the first place.

Of course, last time I was in New York city I saw someone fishing at a pond in Central Park. Talk about pollution!

  16. It's good to see the youth doing something productive with their time and not just lazing about. I wouldn't eat that fish though ;)

  17. Eric said, "It's perch Michael, it's perch."

Thanks for the reply. I was "perched" on the edge of my seat wanting to know!

  18. Tres interessant!! "City Fish"??? Is that similar to a "City Bird"???...Like a Pigeon?? LOL!!
It must have been quite something when once upon a time people did go down to the Seine to catch something for dinner[meaning fish]and didn't worry about what else they might catch!! Food for thought?? LOL!

  19. Wow - that's a new one. I agree, no way I'd go near that fish.

  20. Funny how everybody worried that these fish were probably not the right thing to eat! (Elisabthe, is it true about this hermaphrodite thing after you swim in polluted water??)

Welcome back Haxo, our Paris living encyclopedia ;)

Off to bed now, it's 1:42 am and I am just back from a day by the - real - beach in Normandy.

  22. Eric - a couple of years ago, there was a news item about fish living in a highly polluted environment having developed both sex organs. For something on that, click here.
