Fast love

As you may know, the Eurostar is a high speed train that goes between Paris and London under the English Channel. To attract riders from the French side, the company has chosen what is to us, a typical English breakfast scene, giving it a French lover's twist. If you look closely, you'll quickly notice that the eggs and beans breakfast has a second connotation, as expressed both in the photo and in the slogan "Londres en amoureux" (London for Lovers).

  1. Are the two 'lovers' part of the ad also? If not, great capture!

  2. Eeewwww! I'm sorry, and I am NOT a prude in the least, but that grosses me out. I think it's the "beans as sperm" thing that has my skin crawling!

I do love, however, that you got the couple is making out in front of the "Londres en amoureux" sign. Brilliant.

  3. A couple of weeks ago I was boiling some eggs when they started to whistle (like a chick)... I almost had a heart attack.

That poster creates a great impact!! They could have added a sausage also.

  4. Hi Big E,

Beans acting like sperm is wierd, but that was not you - I guess.

Couples making out in front of eggs and beansperm.....

    I'm with buzzgirl... EEEWWWWWWWWW....

Now, a nice breakfast, now that's different and if there were a worldwide competition I think NY City woukd win the best breakfast comp....

  5. I would think that poster would be advertising condoms instead of a lovers' get away.

Great capture with the couple in front.

  6. Oh, that's funny!!! :-D A little "risque" as seen from this side of the Atlantic, but still really funny!

By the way, 100E Round Trip for 2 seems cheap. And the couple in front of the ad is just perfect! Maybe you should send your picture to Eurostar Marketing Department?

  7. Good Lord! Do you mean to tell us that Brits eat beans for breakfast!
    Mon Dieu!

I like the bright yellow color, and beans and eggs. Oh,yes, this morning I ate an omelette and some beans....

  11. Haha, I took a photo of it too! Very eye-catching. ;)

    (Oh yeah, love your blog!)

  12. Way too cool! You'd never get anything like this here in the states, which is probably part of our problem. Love the lovers' silhouette!

  13. I kind of agree with the other Susan! When I saw the picture....condoms were the first thing I thought of! ha! I guess "Susan's" think a like. But, I will have to come up with a different name since there are two of us....

Michael, thanks for the instructions for links! I haven't had a chance yet but I appreciate it.

    Have a good weekend all!

  15. It is a great concept and Eric, having the two lovers in is a creative idea, such a beautiful photo!

Btw, I want to invite you to see HK from the Peak today :-)

  16. Beans for breakfast grosses me out more than the advert, but beans as sperm crack me up! I know in the States you'd have a lot of lawsuits, but I'm interested to know if you can show this kind of ad in other countries?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Michae, I think you know that ad wouldnt' fly in the States. Although, come to think of it, if you have to chose between puritanical values and British food...

    (no offense, Ham ;)

  18. Just my kind of advertisement! Food and sex in the same ad!

  19. Here is a close-up of the ad. Not for those with a weak stomach (I'm talking about the beans of course!).

  20. Great shot Eric, especially with the couple in front.. how lucky you were! The lighting too, is terrific Great stuff!

  21. great great great capture.

    have a great weekend.

  22. Baked beans for breakfast doesn't strike me as nearly as unpalatable as a typical American breakfast: bacon or sausage, eggs, and a stack of thick pancakes over which maple syrup is poured. Now that's disgusting!

    The ad amuses me.

  23. Micheal,

You wouldn't get away with an add like that in Canada either...even though we are way more liberal than our neighbours to the south.

We can have full frontal nudity on late night tv and all the swearing you want on CBC television but eggs and sperm...I think not!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Michael, I checked out the full frontal view of the Egg and Bean masterpiece. Ugh! Disgusting! However, I like Eric's photo...the combination of the ad and the couple in love...and of course, the lighting. I find the photo romantic and I chose to ignore the sperm and such. It isn't going to make my Eric's Photos Album, though.

  25. Joy, you know you're right...this IS an ad for EuroStar! How did we forget? LOL And yes, it is the best way to travel between the two cities. Let's hope Osama hasn't heard about it!

    ReplyDelete
  26. its an excellent photo Eric. And the provocative ad seems to be successful. Would we deal with them now if they advertise with a photo of a fast train??:)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Wow! Great pic with these two lovers right near the ad! Excellent...

    ReplyDelete
  28. There would not be a problem with that ad in the U.S. sillies!

In fact, I have seen something very similar.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Soon, they're going to exploit the image of the train going into the chunnel to advertise that "Londres en Amoureux" weekend (check the ending of Hitchkock's North by Northwest.

  31. Eric, such perfection in this shot! You must have just happened upon these two, and it couldn't be more right. (Or did you pay them? ;^) Kudos on another shot that could only come from you.

  32. Where do I get the feeling that Osama's clique wouldn't care for that particular ad campaign either ...

    ReplyDelete
  33. Thanks everyone, but the credit goes to the people who created this ad campaign.

As for the two lovers on the photo - No I did not pay them Kim!! - I was just lucky.

    ReplyDelete
  34. "Lucky" ? Lucky they didn't beat you up for capturing them in a semi-compromising position maybe! You must really carry your camera absolutely everywhere with you Eric!

    ReplyDelete
  35. is good that you gave a detail description of the ad., 'cos my eyes kept drawing to the lovers!

whoever came up with this idea is brilliant! n your photo rocks!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Excellent capture. The ad doesn't work for me, too suggestive of the biological side of love-making. But oh well, it's funny.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I love baked beans (with scrambled eggs and bacon) for breakfast, I love this ad (like most of Eurostar's campaigns), I love your shot with the loving couple !!!!
    Merci Eric

(gosh where is gone "Nasty-me" ?)

  38. excellent capture! love this photo!!

  39. One of your BEST ever, Eric!!!
    Great photo!

    Thank You!

  40. I really liked the idea and the photo. Both are great! Well done!

  41. I must be slow; I didn't notice the symbolic message of the advertisement. I suppose I was thinking it made a nice light background for the great silhouette you caught of the couple embracing. Ignoring the beans and egg, the subject has a nice warm cuddly feel about it and your framing and composition are very good.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I like beans, but not like those!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I love it!! and I'm a woman -- no disgust on my part... it's funny, touching, and may help the French and the British get closer together ;-)! Wonderful shot and great ad!
