Christmas eve on the Champs Elysées.

Today I did my last Christmas shopping (yes, I know, I waited until the last minute!) and I ended up on the Champs Elysées. While I was there I thought of you, dear visitors. And took this very very touristy photo... But, hey, what the hell?! It's almost Christmas and even if I took a very similar one last year, it's still worth it! Come back here tomorrow for a more original, yet still seasonal photo...

Put this photo on a card, mug, t-shirt, bag and more here!

  4. Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!! I love it :-) Merry Xmas to me!

Touristy, perhaps, but there is a reason why so many tourists end up on the Champs Elysees: many cities around the world do not have anything quite like it and it is most definitely ABSOLUTELY worth posting (to us, at least), so thank you Eric!!

By the way, if any of you are planning to visit Paris and have a very limited amount of time, I would not recommend spending too much time on the Champs by foot, but focus more around the "center" of Paris and along the Seine (much more to see in a much more concentrated area) and maybe just drive through the Champs and the main avenues instead (unless, of course, you want to go on top of the Arc de Triomphe) because you get a nice overview by driving through these parts, I tink. Just my opinion, of course.

Best wishes from San Francisco to all of you around the world who ended up on this blog, and to your friends and families.

PS for Susan: best wishes to "all y'all " ;)

  5. Sometimes we need touristy photos to remind us of the touristy trips we made to Paris! Wonderful. Merry Christmas Eric.

  6. Never apologize for a tourist photo. I've been a tourist and don't mind at all. As a matter of fact, I loved being a tourist in the City of Light!! Wonderful shot!

  12. Hi y'all! From Tennessee!

Just a lovely, lovely picture Eric. Are those people that are mingling with the cars? It looks like there are a ton of cars there (as usual) but also people walking amongst them! What was going on there?

    Tomate :)

If it's not 1-8, I won't be staying there! Except the 5th...I won't stay there either ;) I was just telling a friend of mine that he needs to go to Paris as he was talking about going to NYC...I told him Paris is a better value (which I think it is...even with the weak dollar and the high airfare)...plus, it's like stepping back in time but with good food and transportation! Well, now I've done my bit for the French economy...LOL!

    Joyeux Noël All!

  14. Dear Eric,
Joyeux Noel! And thank you for yesterday's and today's festive photos. I very much enjoyed each. The cold mist in this photo makes me wish for a scarf, gloves, and a warm coffee! Is that what you picked up for me while you were shopping? ;^) The light in yesterday's photo of ND was superb, and it does look so pale and beautiful after its long cleaning. Thank you for the fun of seeing your fair city everyday of the year. It's a real gift to us all!

  15. This comment was almost impossible to get posted.

We never feel like tourists when we are in Paris. We feel like discouverers of the unique, the lovely.
We don't tour. We absorb beauty and culture. I guess it is all in the mind set.

Merry Christmas to Eric and all.

  20. Joyeux Noël, Merry Christmas to you, Eric, and to all of your readers!

And, of course, I know that you did well with your shopping on the Champs Elysées because “au soleil, sous la pluie, à midi ou à minuit, il y a tout c’que vous voulez, aux Champs Elysées.”

  21. Well there is a reason that certain landmarks and sights become "touristy." It's because of their remarkable history and beauty that transcends time. A shot like this will always be beautiful to people, no matter how many tourists have done it! Well, as long as the shots are done by good photographers like yourself, eric! Merry Christmas! I expect a report on how magical everyone's day was in the next couple of days!

  27. Oh, my heart literally skipped a beat and I gasped for air! November 2005 was my first time in Paris and this "view" really got to me. I loved turning onto the Champs Elysees and seeing the Arc come into view, just getting larger with each step. I could only imagine what it would look like at Christmas time so thank you Eric for providing such a personal look. I did purchase a black and white photo of a shot similar to this at one of those toursity shops just so I could frame it and hang it up with my Christmas decorations and remember my awesome time in Paris. I really wanted to get back this year and do my Christmas shopping on the CE and ice skate in the Eiffel Tower (if they even did that again this year) but no such luck! Your posts are definately the next best thing!

Merry Christmas Eric and thank you for the chance to see so much more of Paris than I could ever discover in a weeks time!
