Autumn leaves

OK, that's a classic, but I love fall colors. There are more and more of these dead leaves in Paris as... there are more and more trees in the streets of Paris (apparently - even if it's not easy to check - 6 400 new trees were planted over the last 7 years by the City town hall). I took this photo in Montmartre, not far from the Sacré Coeur. By the way, if you like the French song "Autumn Leaves", here is a version by Yves Montand. Don't forget, tomorrow is a theme day within the DP community... PS: happy Halloween to my American visitors!

  1. What a lovely photo,Eric! Reminds me of our autumn visit to Paris last fall during this same time ~ the colors were fantastic! Ahhhh, Paris!

  2. Funny, I was just thinking about that song when I saw the picture! Excellent and how à propos! :)

  3. I imagine those leaves caught and carried by the breath of Yves Montand's singing voice and falling, scattering about his and Simone Signoret's tomb in Père Lachaise.

  6. I am really confused, for one moment I thought I was looking at a photograph taken on the streets of Paris, France when all along, it's acutally a photograph of fallen leaves on the streets of Paris, Texas. It's gotta be, when the photographer describes it as fall and not 'Autumn', "Ce n'est pas le cas?"

  7. Dermo,

You have Autumn in the title and fall in the caption. You can choose the one you prefer...

And, well, I have never been to Paris Texas, but something tells me it would be hard to take such a photo there ;)

  8. > Tomate, hello, I've heard about an earthquake in the Bay and immediatly wondered : is everything fine for you ?

  9. How does that "theme thing" work? Where is it announced?

    ReplyDelete
  10. I prefer autumn of course, Eric! I've been looking for a good, leafy shot and you've beaten me to it. Wonderful.

Fredrik i wish you luck with the 'theme' i'm sure you'll be able to do it better than i. I always want to participate but cannot master the tech stuff in getting everyone else's links listed! I might just, as i usually do, participate in picture only, but it's unfair to the others not to list them at my blog.

  11. hi eric, do you have a suggestion about the halloween night in paris?

  12. Fredrik & Lynn, I just sent you a personal email to explain the whole theme day process. I'm sure you can make it Lynn LOL.

Halloween night in Paris? Well no, not really, it's not big anymore. Nothing in the papers this morning, no witches in shop windows, I'm afraid Halloween is dead in France...

But tomorrow, is all saints day, you can visit a couple of Paris cemeteries. Less fun, I know...

I love the shot.We don't get the change of colors in Miami and I miss it.Yves Montand is a nice touch.

  14. Yes, the earthquake in San Jose and San Francisco area. Everyone ok, Tomate? And doesn't our Tonton live there, also? Who else? I hope you are all safe and undamaged, if a little shook up.

  15. BOOoooooo!!! Happy Halloween everyone! Tomate, I hope you are okay and didn't have much of a shake & scare in your area????

I LOVE this time of year. Ironically, the more 'feuilles mortes' on the ground, the more alive I feel. But, ATTENTION where you step, Eric. Speaking of theme days, who knows if some February 2007 theme day (ahem) may not be hidden under a pile of leaves! ;)

    Monica, you're sweet...merci. I'm only self-taught, and I'll tell you the purpose someday. D'accord?

  16. Eric, I love the perspective in your photo today. And the song! Very fun.

For those wondering about the Northern California earthquake yesterday night, Ami from Santa Clara lives in the affected region. From what I can tell, it was a good shaking but no damage other than pictures on the walls falling or things sliding off shelves. It was easily felt and nerve wracking, I'm sure, but not damaging. It was centered in the south of the Eastbay near Alum Rock/Milpitas/Sunol rather than near SF. Earthquakes are one thing I do NOT miss about my life in California ;^). They are truly SPOOKY!
And Eric, Halloween in SF, like Paris, is not going to be lively this year. Because of a shooting during the Castro neighborhood festivities last year, the usual party has been canceled.

  17. Eric, Yves Montand's sultry voice makes me swoon! Beautiful photo. Love the angle.

I think I was standing right over the earthquake here in San Jose. It sure was a rumbler. And I think I've come to the right place to ask - is it bad luck to break a gargoyle? One of mine fell and broke his wing in the earthquake, and nothing has gone right since!

Happy haunting! Tomate, I know it's been canceled, but stay far away from the Castro anyway. Something bad is bound to happen in protest.

  18. Ah! It's our Suzy P who lives there. No offense, I hope Ms. P, my memory of everyone's locale is faulty. (I don't even know where I'm at much of the time.) Glad you're unhurt. Don't know about breaking gargoyles, but after all it wasn't you who broke it, right? If the gargoyle spirits are mad at somebody, they should go after...whoever they think makes earthquakes. Haephestus? Saturn?

And Eric is back on his belly with his camera again, n'est-ce pas?

  19. I hate doing this and I beg your forgiveness - I have never been to Paris, Texas either - but why would you find it difficult to take such a photograph there? I am sure they have trees, I know they have 'fall' and I bet you anything that there is a pavement not unlike the one in your autumnal snap of the 'sidewalks' in Paris, France

    ReplyDelete
  20. But do we have maple trees in Paris, Texas Dermo? What is your point?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Well, first of all...I love this picture!! I have a thing about Autumn in Paris, but the reasons are too long to bore you with. However, once I was on the Batobus singing this song and one of our friends said.."What a great song..did you just make that up"?? I almost jumped into the Seine!! This is one of my most favorite songs in the world, I have it by Piaf. Yves Montand sang it here in SF at the Orpheum during his last US Tour. There wasn't a dry eye in the theater!!

The Earthquake...I was at work on the phone and the person I was speaking to started yelling.."Oh My God We're having an Earthquake"!! I asked where she was as I didn't feel anything. She was in the city not far from me really, but she told me she had only lived here three years...I guess after 30 years in SF it takes something a little bigger to jolt me!! LOL!! This isn't really true as I have been woken up before by "tremors" that were about 4.2 on the Richter scale. This was a 5.6 with an epicenter in San Jose[the Silicon Valley as many people call it]and I guess there was some damage.

The last Autumn I spent in Paris I noticed there was more "Halloween Candy" in shops than ever before, but I never really saw anyone in a costume. My personal association with Autumn lines up more with the theme of this song and the beauty of the seasons changing to winter, the feel of the chill in the air, the Autumn foods...not a bunch of screaching nuts demanding candy...LOL!!

Ms Suzy P...I hope you are wrong about something bad happening in the Castro!! I live 5 blocks from there[at Dolores park]so the noise and traffic problems can be horrendous. I usually leave town when Halloween is on a weekend. The festivities have been canceled as they should be. Restaurants and shops will be closed along with the Metro and BART stations. The pathetic, sick, American penchant for violence has ruined this celebration. Nine people were shot last year! Enough is Enough!

  22. Thanks Eric but now i'm getting error messages saying 'Bandwidth exceeded'. LOL. It's just not meant to be. C'est la vie. I have posted a theme day photo and apologise that i cannot list other participants. Can't wait for yours, Eric, please hurry and post before i go to bed!

  23. I love Fall colours too eric. This is a great picture.

  24. Thanks guys, and sorry for the delay in responding. As far as I know, everybody's fine. The earthquake mostly hit the South Bay and if we felt it in my neighborhood, we had no damages. Pfeww...

Oh, and thanks Susy P! No worries, I'm home sick with a cold, so I won't be anywhere outdoors tonight! ;)

Salut GG! Long time ! :-)
