Mr Peacock in Paris

What do you mean, this photo was not taken in Paris?! I took it in the Bagatelle Gardens, located in the Bois de Boulogne (big woods on the west side of Paris) which is technically in the 16th arrondissement! These gardens were created in 1777 and now shelter several interesting points including a huge rose garden, that I already mentioned here, and - noisy - peacocks. Today we're changing time in Europe, I'm looking forward to sleeping an extra hour...

  1. Ah, peacocks! Such beautiful creatures with such horrendous voices!

  2. The peacock is an exotic invader in the Miami area. I live in the middle of Coral Gables and I have pictures of three peahens walking in my garden. The last time that I was visiting the Kampong (a botanical garden the Coconut Grove) I saw two groups of juveniles. They are rather common.

  3. Mr Peacock hasn't found a peahen yet so he's not flashing that gorgeous tail. Coincidentally I was hearing all about the Bagatelle Gardens last night from a fellow who has just returned from Paris - a keen gardener (and surgeon) but he said that the Bois is very sleazy these days, even during daylight hours. Is that true?

  4. Oh yes Mme Benaut, the Bois de Boulogne has a life all its own at night. Different kinds of peacocks and peahens strutting their stuff when the sun goes down.

Where else in the world are the clocks changing this weekend?

  5. The clocks are changing all over Europe - extra hour in bed indeed - obviously you are not the one who changes them in your house -- we've more than a dozen and it takes me that extra hour just to alter them all!

  7. Tog, I grew up in Coral Gables and lived on Sistina, 2 blocks from the Uof M!

Michael was too discreet about the strutters in the Bois. When a taxi driver asked me if I knew what a travesty was, I must have answered yes to the wrong question and wound up in the Bois behind a stream of other cars looking at the transvestites on either side of the road! I took my mother the next yr. on the same ride and she INSISTED they were women, especially because they were so beautifully turned out.(but after all, they live in Paris)Then one lifted up his blouse and as far as she was concerned,it proved to her that they were women!!

  8. Some years ago, when I was working in England, I used to stay in a hotel where 3 or 4 peacocks families were "living"!
    Nights were quite noisy !!!

Something else : today I posted a special note on my blog, dedicated to all the "macarons lovers" I know regularly visiting PDP !

  9. And the wood on the other side of Paris has them too - in the Parc Floral de Paris - have you seen them? With their tails up if you're lucky and they're feeling horny!

  10. Michael

In most parts of Australia we put our clocks forward 1 hour yesterday, so we lost sleep. As we are now into late Spring it was daylight at 5am anyway, so Daylight Saving will be good.

    Eric

My wife and I have just returned from a month in Europe, the first week spent in your beautiful city. We stayed in the 7th arr. and had a really wonderful time. This was our 2nd visit to Paris, and we left with plans to return again asap. We managed to obtain tickets to the France v Ireland Rugby match at Stade de France. What a great atmosphere.

    Cheers

  11. Yah, yah, yah, this changing time is not fun for us here working with Europe. Our corporate agendas are doing some very funky things while we are still in summer time here.
    Great pic of Mr. Peacock!
