When France meets England...

If you follow the World Rugby Cup, you probably saw that, against all odds, France beat New Zealand last night (see note below). Consequently, we will play England in the semi-Final. To celebrate, I'd like to introduce you to Ham, a true Englishman, who also happens to run the London Daily Photo blog. Ham came to Paris last week and I finally got to meet him after all these years (yes, years now!) with the City Daily Photo Community (Ham contacted me a few months after I started PDP saying "I'm surprised there is not an LDP blog already?"). Since then, we have been in contact very regularly and meeting him for real was like meeting someone I've always known. He's a real great guy and he has done a lot for the CDP community, including teaching others how to photo blog.

Note: If you wish to send your condolences (please do! please do!), you might also want to visit these other New Zealand city daily photo blogs: Jeremy, Ben & Megan, and Michelle.

  1. This picture is bringing a special delight to me. I was curious as to what Ham looked like after LDP and I had the pleasure of already meeting the charming Eric in person. This photo is a perfect way to meld LHR CDG.
In fact, that is what vanity license plate says in PHX!
OK, Jeff, where do you think they took this photo?

  4. Fantastic! Australia played absolutely dreadfully in the other quarter final. England won of Wilkinson's boot. Would like to have seen more tries, but , that's the game!

  5. Eric re yesterday's comment: There's NO way an Australian would support the All Blacks, unless it was the final and errr, it was New Zealand and England! Ye old rivals. Hmmm, maybe like France and England???? Despite no 100 Years War, the rivalry is, errr, just as strong ;-)

I'm backing France now FOR SURE!!!

  8. Congrats on the win on two accounts! France crushing (ok, I won't exagerate) winning against NZ and a great team of bloggers.

I had the opportunity to meet Ham too and Eric's right, he's a really great guy.

Phx-cdg and Jeff, I KNOW where it was taken. You do too if you remember carefully previous photos of PDP.

  9. By the way, anyone who watched the match on television would have noticed that the new President of the Republic, Nicolas Sarkozy, was a much more active fan than the outgoing Jacques Chirac. He actually looked like he enjoyed himself!!!

  10. Are you both in the General Lafayette cafe? This was one of my locals when I lived rue des Martyrs, and this photo really reminds me of it. Great to hear you can make good contacts in the CDP community. Ham, enjoy your time in Paris!

  11. Ham in Paris eh! Good to see you both together. Will the semi-final break you apart? I don't think so.

They do say that Rugby is a game for Hooligans played by Gentlemen but from what I have seen I think even the supporters are gentlemen. Looks like I will be supporting France - Allez les Petits.

  13. The France-New Zealand game was great and really nail-biting right till the end. I felt sorry for NZ because I know how disappointed they must be, after their enormous hopes, but I feel GREAT for France, my adopted country, and they deserved it - they played with incredible commitment right up till the last second (desperation?!) and even if you don't really like rugby, you can appreciate some great human traits in there. Allez les Bleus!!!

  15. Congrats to France! A group of PDP fans watched the match last night here in Johannesburg and we all cheered (loudly) for France. Allez les Bleus!

  17. Maybe we should all try and meet up with other DP bloggers. If anyone ever comes to Nottingham, do look me up.

  21. Re. what Sally said, I think Kiwis are less antagonistic about the Aussies - if we're not playing, we back them, but they're gone, too, this time.

  22. Was their a game on? ha ha ha, seriously though, congratulations France. It's the NZ players I really feel for, and I hate to see big grown men crying (Anton Oliver is my favourite as he's such a Southern Man, and I've met Richie McCaw and he is one heck of a nice guy).

  23. Hey where's Mon' gone ? Anyone know? Her Rio blog's disappeared.

  24. Happy to please you PHX-CDG ;)

And sorry Sally I did misunderstand you. Actually I figured out that given the proximity Australia would be more on NZ's side than a country far far away in Europe ;)

Michael, no wonder: Jacques did not know jack about Rugby LOL.

Yes Lezard, this photo was taken in the General Lafayette. I like this restaurant very much actually.

Hey Wilf ;) Long time no see. No, the semi-final won't break us apart LOL.

    Zsolt : see above ;)

Lynn, I'm sure you will ;)

Thanks Michelle, that's what I call "fair play"

Meg, no need to mourn! There are worst things in life ;)

No Lynn, I don't know. She commented 2 days ago if I recall.

  25. So glad to see that you could meet him in person Eric! It must have been very special for you. That is certainly one of the greatest things about PDP, being able to meet great people from everywhere. I know the feeling, I've had the pleasure of meeting you!!

Lynn I had computer problems and don't know exactly what happend with the blog. Remember, I'm a bit computer chalenged too!

  26. France beat NZ and England beat Oz. Now that's what I call putting the colonies in their place! I don't watch rugby - much too violent for me. Love this photo of Ham with you. Hello Ham! Nice to see you, sort of.

  27. LOL Eric!

Whew Monica, you had us worried there for a minute!

  28. We love our cousins across the Tasman, really! Just we play our own comps and there is a strong rivalry. I like the way the AB usually play, so it was a disappointment for all the NZ fans for sure....they were more deserving than the woeful Australian performance, where they played like real stupidos!

  29. Everybody misses Michael when they don't "see" him for awhile. Michael, I hope you know how much you are loved around here. Just as much as Eric!

  30. Wow, two of my favorite guys in the world in one photo! This is great, and good to see you two inspirational fellows finally have the opportunity to get together. Typically different ways of looking at things, you French and English: Eric shoots vertically and Ham horizontally! Well, if Ham posts his shot on LDP, we'll know where we are by the landscape orientation. This shot is one for the CDP family album!

I first learned the techie steps of blogging through Ham's kindly posted instructions and suggestions, and you are right about what a great guy he's been to help with so many CDPB projects. Very cool to see you both! Glad Michael got to see Ham, too!
