Funky helmet

Sorry, I have had an exhausting day (Thursday) in Trouville, and I have an even more exhausting one coming up tomorrow at the office, so you won't learn anything about Paris in the caption today. Right now, I'm going straight to my bed... I hope you will still enjoy this funky helmet though; I did. BTW: this year's PDP picnic will take place on May 6 or 7, it's time to book your flight LOL!

  1. Awesome photo! It's like the guy is wearing a yellow cupcake with sprinkles on his head. Hang in there Eric!

  2. Rest well, Eric -- many of us have been through this, and we feel for you.

Love the colors on the helmet!

  3. Eric, I hope you sleep well and that work tomorrow isn't too bad. Tax season is winding down here in the States, and being an accountant/student it's a hectic time for me as well being busy with work and the end of the school semester. Luckily I already have my flight to Paris booked (a graduation present to myself) and I will be arriving in Paris on May 5th, just in time for the picnic!

The depth of field in this picture is wonderful. I love how you can just make out the metro sign in the background, it's just enough to identify the picture as being taken in Paris...

    ReplyDelete
  4. I love it!! Parisians are not so boring finally... :)

I'll be there, if everything's fine at school (I mean no exams!)

    Sleep tight!

  5. You made me laugh, Katie, a cupcake! Or maybe he got his kids to decorate his hard hat for him!

You see Justine, Eric didn't say invitations will be sent out tomorrow or something similar, get the hint girl, he is inviting all of us ;)

  6. Guille, Thanks! Merci!

Of course I speak French and read and write it. However, I'm not wild about my accent. So, in order to not embarass myself, I only speak French when the other person does not know English; for instance, my mother-in-law does not and refuses to speak English. When I write French I mis-spell a lot of words -- I am a lousy speller. I am always asking my X-husband or my current boyfriend how to spell such and such. When I first met my X-husband, he was very bad in English. He has a beautiful Parisian accent -- angelic.

I am so relieved that Eric's Aunt is still with us. I was holding my breath. I was affraid to utter a single word.

You are a very sweet young lady. You always say such nice things on PDP. I don't think you are a brat at all. Now, Rose on the other hand, that's a brat. She's funny so she can get away with it.

    ReplyDelete
  7. That's a great pic Eric, i can just about see it, but i can't read the writing. It's my fault not yours; my screen has gone all aqua green and mad. I can barely even see what i'm typing so excuse all errors. It's visually a craxy time and not too easy on the eyes! I have the opposite of the Midas touch when it comes to electrical equipment..... I shall just have to imagine what you wrote Eric and that is, that you miss me each time my laptop packs up and you love and adore me. I too, you. Bisous! A toute a l;'heure mon chere. lol! Ooooh my head hurts.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Rose, I'm definitely planning to be there, though it may be somewhat difficult to convince my boyfriend, but I am determined to succeed! If worst comes to worst I can hope that it will be on the 6th and he'll be so jet lagged that I'll be able to wander off on my own for a little while...

    ReplyDelete
  9. I'm glad to be Rose'brat! :)

And Lois thanks for the compliments. Blushing.

Lynn, you would have better asked for a computer for your birthday! What are you going to do with all this makeup but no laptop??

    ReplyDelete
  10. Hi Eric, I hope you have a restfull week-end ahead.
Thank you for the fun photo. This guy has a sense of humour :)

    ReplyDelete
  11. I can't tell if it's a hardhat or a bike helmet - but either way it's fun! I was thinking the same as Justine - I love the blurred Metro sign in the background.

Hang in there, Eric, at least it's TGIF.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Wishing you a restful night Eric. :) I've so enjoyed your pictures this week and everyone's comments.

I did smile though to see you use the work "funky." LOL, just not a word I would expect coming from M. Paris. :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. ooopsies, I meant "word" ;) I'm in a funk!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Get some sleep, Eric. Dig the helmet...first thought I was looking at a bowl ice cream "dots" popular here at state fairs. Peace!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Totally cool helmet! Is that so no one else will steal it or so someone can pick it out of a crowd easily?

Hope you have a wonderful day, even though it's busy.

A PDP picnic!! I can't make it this year, but I will make sure I have a Parisian lunch that day in honor of the celebration. A baguette and some great cheese and some olives with a bottle of sparkling juice to celebrate! (Not considering the fact that it is my all time favorite lunch!)

    Bonsoir!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Eric
    Hope your Aunt recovers pronto.

    Guille
I think Lois meant I am a brat (pfff!!!)

    Lois
I m far too old to be a brat so
I graduated from "brat" to "excentric" about 20 years ago. Thanks for the funny though ;), you are in my good books now

    Justine,
Tell your boyfriend that you don't really want to go to the picnic because you want to go shop instead and could he please come along with you to carry all the bags... who knows? he might change his mind!

Lynn, do you know how you walk 20 thousand miles? One step at the time, my friend. Keep going and you will get there.

    ReplyDelete
  17. i wish you were having your picnic one week prior, that's when we're in town!!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I understood Rose, I also know that I'm a brat (:p) but I'm glad if I'm YOUR brat! ;)
And you're one too, it's not too late you know. hehe.
Will you join us for the picnic? I hope so. We'll have with us at least one of the two English women, Lynn seems to be undecided. I think she wants us to beg for her. Tsss, aucune chance. (pleeeeeeeaaaaaase Lynn!)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yes, Guille there is no doubt that regardless of Lois thinks you are a brat...brat brat brat ;)
    Happy now?
So Guille, other than Lynn who is the other English (and) lady?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Okay you're NOT English, but so similar! LOL.
    Yes, happy.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I hate to bother you with allthat is going on in your life, but when you can, please make a decision between May 6th or 7th, and the time, as that makes a difference for a schedule that I fly. Thanks.

  23. Jennifer, Eric knows more American slang than most of us. Except Guille.

I wonder if he knows the expression, "I'll eat my hat!"

    ReplyDelete
  24. Sure we did! We learned that in Paris, some guy was trying to brighten his day by wearing a creative helmet...

Actually I was surprised one day in San Francisco when I happened to see a bunch of helmets on a construction sites; they were pink, yellow, and pastel kinds of colors. For a minute there, it looked a little out of place. But why not, eh? :)

As to your aunt, nothing much we can say except hang in there, Eric. We're very sorry you must go through this difficult time.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Too bad! Other years I've seen pictures you've posted of PDP picnics and wished I could be there. This year we don't get to Paris 'til May 22nd, so once again, I'll just be looking and the photo and wishing . . .

    ReplyDelete
  26. Eric we love everything you post. Period. This is another amusing photo!

Guille, don't you see that Lynn doesn't really want her laptop to be fixed? The way it is know she can't really read what's on the screnn, so she can keep fantasizing Eric is writing her endless love posts...!!

And Guille, I bet you live just a few steps away from where the picnic is going to take place. There's no excuse, you have to go. Rent a Velib, get the metro, skates, whatever! Think of all of us who can't be there but dream of it!
For us guille, you have to do it for us.

Rose, you HAVE to be there to represent the brazilian share of the PDP community!!!

And Phx have to be there to be my eyes and ears, like she's promised me!

    ReplyDelete
  27. good one Eric... colors of life!!!
thats how anything can be made plesent...
If everything goes well I will be in Paris next month for long project. so that I can see Paris daily alongwith your daily photos...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Truly, Guille, you have to go. Monica's right.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think we learned a lot about Paris from this picture. Where else would a man wear a cup cake helmet ? It's very Pariiii chic...
Eric, I hope you'll have a nice day anyway. Hang in there !!!
And a nice day to the rest of you too of course !

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'll be there too! That will be a bit harsh for me in English (spoken English is harder, I am afraid)... but I will do my best and guess you are as kind on PDP as in real life. Arent'you ?!!
I'm looking forward to be there and meet you !!!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. *to being there and meeting you.
C'est mieux comme ça, non ? (pfff...)!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Monica if I go I will take Brazilian chocolate, guarana and Brahma to celebrate 3 of the greatest Brazilian things...

    No Michael, I won't wear a bikini!

    ReplyDelete
  33. he he Monica Guille et Rose. Thanks for the encouragement. I am still seeing you through luminous green so i won't stay long. Much as i love to imagine Eric's words I see now, my eyes having acclimatised, that's it's a normal post. How i'd love to be there at the picnic and will try but all is up in the air - work, everything is uncertain at the moment so it isn't easy. Guille had the amount of make-up have added up to the price of a new laptop i would of course have chosen to have a plain face instead! he he that made me laugh. Instead, i smell nice and my eyelashes are longer but i have no screen. At least i'm here anyway. I am waiting for the techie to tell me if the thing is even safe to use so i'd better go! Bisous, see you when i can!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Rose where do you find guarana and Brahma there?

    ReplyDelete
  35. C'est vrai il faudrait arrêter une date dès que possible. Le mercredi c'est bien...

Petrea, we have this expression in France too (to eat one's hat).
You are all wet, I don't know any slang. :)

Monica and Petrea, and if I don't want to go?! You don't know, maybe I'm really shy, maybe I don't speak English at all and ask somebody to write for me (yes, even @ 2 in the morning, I have a slave actually), maybe I hate the people on PDP and don't want to see them, maybe I'm 75 years old and not 21...what do you think about that, hu?

Lynn, don't trust that Eric writes to you, one visit on Cheltenham blog is enough, isn't it?

In any case girls, if you're not in Paris the 6th of May (Rose I'm sure you will be here), well I will crack open a bottle for ya! ;)

A FUNKY picture needs a FUNKY MUSIC!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ahh, the M 'n' M guy, or Smarties as we would say from the UK. It really reminds me of those stickers from the Musée Rodin which we've both taken shots of in the past!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Petrea, I love that Eric used "funky!" :) I really was in a funk yesterday (dissertation induced). Then seeing this cheerful photo, a dude with his funky helmet made me smile. A reminder to take things less seriously, express your playful side. Eric, thank you big time for all of your work here. Hope I didn't come across as snarky.

Oh, I so wish we could all be at the PDP picnic. There is such a wonderful community here.

    ReplyDelete
  38. The idea of the PDP picnic is so tantalizing . . . Since I can't return to Paris until December, we must have lots of photos of the event, and long posts from everyone who attends! Eric, I hope your business day is smoother than expected, and that your aunt is feeling better, too.

    ReplyDelete
  39. he he Guille! Yes girls by the way, i tell you casually that Eric has paid me a visit oh yes, just for me, at Cheltenham for my birthday a few days ago.... i am brimming with pride. he he.

I too am surprised to see "funky" - i don't believe i've seen it since the eighties. It's a very apt word for that hat though.

Oh yes by the way i am back, sans luminous green! Oh yes, tis fixed, for now. Watch out, Lynn's about! Again.

    ReplyDelete
  40. You didn't sound the least bit snarky, Jennifer.

Lovely, fun, funky day and weekend to all!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Very funky halmet. Have you seen the funky running shoes you can buy for $5,000.00 a pair? For those of you who don't know what to do with your money. Elaine Cooke

    ReplyDelete
  42. Quick word. I'm just out of my meetings. May 7 it will be then! (The picnic)

    ReplyDelete
  43. This is a heads-up. Eric, the prints I purchased have arrived. They are very nice as expected. I have hung them up in my cube. My cube looks like a gallery of Guille and Eric's work. I just love it. Thanks so much for helping me with that.

    ReplyDelete
  44. $5,000 for funky running shoes? Hehehe, there was a show on this weekend, about some guys who collect vintage sneakers, and sell them in underground hidden shops for big $. Serious business!

Awwww, wishing all some funky much needed good times too. Btw, just back from a nature walk, wild flowers, flowering trees, flowering bushes, flowers everywhere and even saw a gorgeous giant yellow swallowtail butterfly. :)

    May 7th it is!

    ReplyDelete
  45. So descriptive Jennifer I almost sneezed (damn allergies).

This guy with the helmet must have a good sense of humor.

I thought Guille's link was going to be "Play That Funky Music White Boy." Thank God it wasn't.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Lynn, Don't you have cubes in the UK? I think we started having them in the 80's or 90's in Silicon Valley, and then they spread to San Francisco.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I just was wondering, what if it rains on the day of the picnic?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Eric, as always a wonderful photo! I don't always post, but rest assured I check this blog daily and sometimes more when I need a wonderful photo to brighten up my day, so thank you:)

I agree, this guy must have a great sense of humour:)

About the picnic, it's wonderful that you are having it on May 7th as that is my birthday! Unfortunately, I will have to think of all the fun you all will be having as I can't make it:( I sure hope there is lots of photos:)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Grrr Lois, you're playing with me! he he you still don't tell me what they are. LOL how clever. What are cubes?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Lynn, cubes are cubicles in office buildings. Instead of having a complete office with a door, each person has foor little walls that do not reach all the way to the ceiling...

I've put the picnic on my calendar, I can't wait to meet those of you who will be there!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Eric, I hope your auntie is comfortable and that you are doing okay. Thanks for this whimsical photo today! Hope you can recharge as the weekend starts.

And, don't think some of us wouldn't jump on a flight in a split second for a fun get together with PDP folks in Paris. American airlines are having big trouble just now with thousands of flights canceled due to enforcement of inspections. Hopefully things will even out soon. I wish I were free to come for the May gathering, sigh . . .

  52. Lynn, I sent you an email. Thanks Justine for jumping in like that; the suspense was driving Lynn crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Yes, that wacky American Airlines. I just got an update that said the flight crews will be compensated for the flights they can't fly by a special arrangement with the company and the union.. By contract, they wouldn't normally be paid! And you thought it was only passengers that had it bad!
I just hope I get to NYC on Sun. Dinner Tues. at Chez Josephine Dumont, yum,!
May 7th it is!!! I can't wait to meet all of you. I will be up for 24 hrs because I won't be able to get my sleep at the hotel. If I say huh?? a lot, that's why. Can we meet at a cafe nearby if it rains?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Lois, if it rains, Jeff will host us in the flat he will rent. That's what he told me few weeks ago. Or maybe it was a private invitation?!Oops... LOL

7th of May. It's noted down Eric!

    ReplyDelete
  55. You mean like a partition, a workstation? oh why didn't you say so then? ;) lol

    ReplyDelete
  56. Because they are called "cubes".

Hey, I just got back from lunch with a girlfriend, Georgette. (She is going to have a baby in the first of June.) She is from the UK and she said that everyone must take 4 years of French. I didn't know that. I told her that English is the global language for the sciences. I work on art for patents and correspond with patent offices around the world and the global patent office WIPO. Everyone always writes to me in English no matter what country they are from. I thought they were just trying to be polite. duhhhhh And you are probably asking how many years have you been doing this? BTW an Electronic Engineer in Paris also told me, yes, English is the world language for the electronics, chem-bio, etc.

It is the most marvelous day in San Francisco. Everyone is out at the sidewalk cafes and smiling.

    ReplyDelete
  57. So, we'll have Rose, Guille, Justine, and Corinne (don't worry, mon ami, my French is terrible--we can have fun laughing at each other!) PHX_CDG, we hope (either way, we'll have lunch when you're here, right?). Me, my friends Julie and Craig. I'll let Michel know. Michael, I'm assuming (but he's so fickle, I've heard, flitting about the globe). Eric, of course, and his friends whose faces I remember but not all the names. Belle Laure?
Hey, how about Paris Set Me Free? I'd love to meet this artist. Who am I missing...tonton flaneur? Coltrane? I can't remember who is in Paris.

Depending on the size of the group, yes I can host if it rains. The apartment is small, it could handle maybe about twelve or so. If we think we'll have more people, we can meet at a café. (Guille, j'entends un petit peux de 'brat', n'est-ce pas? LOL)

    It snowed here last night!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Tonton Flaneur: You have stolen my initials! Tsk, tsk, tsk...

    ReplyDelete
  59. he he Lois ok i see. I'm glad it's a good day in San Fran, with no more disruption over the flame. Did you see it?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Oh No, tomate!!!! Excusez Moi!!! I should have signed T_F...LOL!!

We need to have a drink or two or three to celebrate my B'Dayyyyy!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Oh Jeff, you know you can count me in and in fact I should be here. Others of course are GG(sometimes NastyGG) and Arnaud.

    Happy Bday Tonton_Flaneur!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Merci Jeff !! Oh yes, sure that will be funny !!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Eric, did we all miss the red Metro sign in the bokeh? Brilliant sense of place!
