Madonna's concert tickets for sale!

I would think that in the age of the Internet, people who bought tickets to a concert they finally cannot attend would sell them on ebay or post a note in a music forum...I was wrong! The old techniques are still around, like sticking a little paper ad on trees in busy streets saying "I have two tickets to the Madonna concert to sell" with a telephone number. I don't know if they managed to sell their tickets, but I thought it would make a funny photo ;) BTW, the tree is a platane (plane tree) like many of the trees you find in the streets of Paris.

  1. Well, if they're scalping tickets, they probably don't want to be traced to their computer account. Even worse, if they are counterfeit tickets. Buyer beware!

  2. Eric, are they plane trees that line bvd. st michel? They are beautiful.

  3. I missed Madona?! Zut alors! Great photo, I like seeing little notes on trees (except lost animals). Such a pretty Parisian tree!

  4. Wasn't she just there in May? And didn't deign to come to the PDP picnic? I just don't know if I could see her in concert knowing that! You can tell a lot about a person by who they spend time with!!

I'm not really a fan though, so I probably wouldn't anyway. She was in the next big town here (about 90 miles away) in July, but I really didn't want to see her.

  5. Hello, Eric!

Does the price include airfare and hotel? Heck, I'd sleep on the street if it meant a night in Paris.

The handwritten sign makes me think that the writer does not even have a computer.

  6. Hey! I think we have these trees in Pasadena! They shed their bark (like snakes shed their skin) at certain times of the year. They're lovely.

I admire Madonna for her business sense. Her music's not to my taste, but she's got enough fans, she doesn't need me.

  7. There are people who shun the internet. I call then Tacans (a combination of the first three letters of tactile and the last two letters of Vegan). These misguided individuals don't want to interface with anything they can't touch. No SimCity for these touchy, touchy folks. I may put on my Birkenstocks and join them.

  8. I'm with uselaine here. caveat emptor! Wonder what they cost—and if they were legit. Is she still pretty popular in Paris?

  9. He, the concerts were on Saturday and Sunday evenings! I just met a friend tonight, she told me that the first part of the concert was Bob Sinclar. He probably went there after the Techno Parade.
I like Madonna, I'm not a huge fan but would be able to buy a ticket for her concert (if it was not 80euros of course).

I like the fact to glue an add on a tree. It's like the little ads in Libération newspaper, most of the time this kind of things: 'Flight from Moscow to Paris. You, stunning, Me, shy, seat 23B. Call me.' It makes me melt!

Uselaine, Cali and Petrea, (about yesterday comments)soon! I plan to go to New York next year, a good friend of mine is going to marry an American guy (yep, strange idea LOL). But unfortunately, only NYC... One says here that NYC is NOT the US. What do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  10. I have to agree with uselaine, I would think twice before buying tickets from that person. I don't know much about Madonna's career except when she first came on the entertainment scene, and I wasn't impressed so am not a fan.

    Uselaine...GF..good job;)

  12. Madonna's early stuff makes great exercise music. I used to exercise quite a bit to her music and Michael Jackson's music back in the 80's. Even now, when I hear these songs out of the blue, I kind of want to get up and exercise! :)

  13. Guile, I was looking at your comment. They might say that NYC is not US just like people say Paris isn't France. Is it? I love Manhattan. You'll have a great time!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I thought the bark looked much like that of our California Sycamores, which Wiki says are a kind of plane tree.

A concert for Saturday, September 20th. Today being the 23rd in Paris (the 22nd here) I can't help thinking that there is something appropriately past its time about the notice.

  15. Guille, is that why you took Aeroflot to Tokyo? The food might not have been so bad had such a Mr. Shyness Himself shared one of his tins of Beluga Caviar.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Probably tried the internet, didn't get any hits, and so is resorting to lawst ditch efforts!

    TG-J'adore the new photo!!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Guille, I can't say it isn't the US, but it sho-nuff ain't California. I suppose you must take what you can get. I have only spent a couple of days in the state of New York myself, so it still looks pretty exotic from here.

...uselaine lines the inside of the GF crown with black satin...

    ReplyDelete
  18. Guille, I don't know. I haven't been to New York City since I was twelve.

(Petrea hangs her head in shame. Not only has she not been to New York, but she can't figure how how to use the html tags.)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Sigh..Just a thought, but how do you remember phone numbers that long?! I'm sitting here trying to figure out a method of how I would, if I had too (besides obviously writing it down on paper) Are the first 4 digits like "area codes" in America? What did you do before the cell phone and having no pen or paper?

Cool picture Eric! The tree looks like a Birch (they shed too)
I like Maddona, though I've never seen her in concert.

p.s. 1st time poster and I love your blog Eric!! C'est Magnifique!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I take that back, it just reminds me of a Birch tree, that is not a Birch.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Katie...visited your blog. Looks like you are having a delightful time...

    ReplyDelete
  22. guille -- was going to get huffy and say, "What?!? NYC not the US??" But then I thought about it for a NY minute, as we say. Still not really sure if it's true or not, because I'm not that familiar with most of the rest of the country (my turn to hang my head in shame, petrea—haven't been to Calif. since I was 11!).
Which reminds me, guille: Even though petrea, lois, from cali, uselaine, tall gary, katie, tomate farcie, ET suzy, louis la vache (who am I forgetting?) are all in Calif., there is at least one person who would love to meet you when you come to "not the US" next year!

    ReplyDelete
  23. (Grrrr..now I feel like Tomate always struggling with Blogger this morning!)

Madonna is anything but "plain", so wonder how she'd feel about her tickets being stuck up on a plane tree. I see another scandal coming. That would be a photo to catch... "Madonna caught fighting a tree in the middle of Paris."

I agree with Petrea's first comment and have a lot of respect for Madonna's business sense. I hear her brother just released a "tell-all" book about sis. Has anybody read it?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Alexa - California claims Carrie and Pont Girl too!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I had never realized that! Petrea, Lois, From cali, Uselaine, Tall Gary, Katie, tomate farcie, Suzy, louis la vache, Carrie and Pont Girl are ALL from California? That's amazing...

Fortunately, mixité oblige, Alexa is from NY, Jeff is from Minnesota (Minneapolis), and Michael is from Florida (Miami), well hm, we could say Paris now. ;)

Tall Gary, LOL Aeroflot was awful. Everything was broken, the stewardesses were shamefully uncouth and the meals were...barely edible! And I don't speak about the stop in Moscow.
But my stay there was so nice that I just forgot all these troubles. :)
Did I tell you that the exhibition "Nippon: A Summer Day in Early Modern Japan "(Mitsui Memorial Museum) was a real delight? I've been surprised by the simplicity and the beauty of several objects and paintings. It stays one of the lasting memory of Tokyo.

    ReplyDelete
  26. This is too funny Eric!!!!
Advertising like this... well, if it's anything like here I figure they don't need much to sell a Madonna tickect, it's been selling like water here.

BTW, I'm going to Madonna's concert here in Rio in december!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Isn't Tonton also in CA? Could you manage to squeeze in a trip to CA, Guille? Then the only problem would be deciding on Northern or Southern CA. :-)

Too bad this wasn't posted before the concert, Eric. You might have received some sort of fee for helping to scalp, I mean, sell the tickets.

Monica: we will expect a review of the concert.

  28. Guille, "One says here that NYC is NOT the US." That is 100% true. I have been to every state in the US except for Alaska. My shows are booked in the "art capital" (not necessarily the capital) of each state. My tours usually last about three months. Sometimes I will be in the state for up to three weeks or as little as three days. I have also gone on tour via the road which included Canada. I usually fly though. I lived in NYC for about 15 years. Each state in the US has their special features; and their claims and boasts to fame.

  29. Bon jour Everyone, ou c'est le bon soir?

I'm at the office and using a company computer so I don't have my favorites on it. Would you send me Katie's link to her blog if you have it?

    Merci, merci beaucoup.

  30. http://katiefornia.blogspot.com/

She's got a new post up.

  31. By the way, that new post at Katie's blog shows one of Lois's lovely Paris paintings, so go take a peek!

  32. Mais oui...I'm a California boy..errrr...California "tonton" I meant! Not a native...but I have been here long enough to be considered one...oh, the burden!

Et guille...people say that NYC isn't the US the same way that they say San Francisco isn't the US! There is truth to both of these comments, however I would say that NYC is more of the US than SF. America is quite diverse and really does change from region to region. Is there any wonder as to how difficult it will be to get a majority of voters to agree on a President??

New York is great and full of it's own unique energy. I have always said that it should be required of every American to visit New York at least once before the age of 26!

Madonna knew about the energy that could only be found in New York! She left Michigan for New York and never looked back! I wonder if she still sings about her "Lucky Star"!!??? If I link it...tomate might start doing her "jazzercize" at work? LOL!! ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hey all! I've been correcting numerous English compositions so have been away from the computer.

Eric,I have been away from pop music too long so didn't even know Madonna was still performing. Hey, good for her. She always looks like a well-conditioned athlete whenever I see her photo in tabloids. She could probably tour long enough to turn her concert promos into something like, "Grand-Madonna Tour 2030!"

Lois, you know I love your paintings.

    Katie...where are you dining tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Coltrane....While you were correcting English whatever, I was listening to my favorite Jazz radio station, and guess what, they were featuring John Coltrane, now who do you think I thought of. You of course.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Michael (?): I haven't read the latest book but I saw the movie that was released (sort of a documentary done during a tour during the late 80's or 90's) , I think it was called Live to Tell ? That was pretty good. I also a TV movie about her life back in the 80's. That was definitely based on a non-authorized bio because it was not flatering. According to this movie, she was a tough kid, but she also did have the ability to reinvent herself and adapt to new styles. I'm not a huge fan or anything but I think she does have talent. I bought a song on iTunes a couple of months ago called "Love Profusion" from the album American Life. It sounds pretty good.

  36. To the anonymous poster who wanted to know about the phone numbers: The first couple of digits are city codes, I think. Then, there is a zero which you only dials within France, but not from foreign countries. Then, you have the normal 7 numbers, total 10 numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Well, at least that's the way it looks.

So for those of you who want to call that number from the States, you do:

011-33- 662-83-06-88 (take out the first zero)

Wouldn't that poor guy (girl) be surprised if we all called him (her)?

    ReplyDelete
  38. How funny! I hope they found a buyer for them!

  39. "Vogue" was fun to dance to.

    I know I shouldn't, but I'm worried about Eric...

    ReplyDelete
  40. As far as touring at her age, well, Mick Jagger does it even well into his dotage. What's the diff?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Muscles, USE, Mad's got bigger muscles.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I can see from the conversations that people are waiting for Eric to post! Since I seldom comment, but read all the time, I think I'll go make dinner. The GF will go to a regular. I would like to say how wonderful it is to read everyone's comments and how nice it is that a community has formed around this. My niece Katie is among very nice people--all of whom seem to be so interested in her Parisian vacation.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Maybe Eric is just having a great time somewhere and can't break away.

    ReplyDelete
  44. FC - LOL!

LL - Interested, if not to say beating back some troublesome envy, very much. 6^) She makes an excellent surrogate.

  45. I'll bet his gray suit got him into some good-kind-of trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Maybe he called the number posted on the tree and a woman answered . . .

    ReplyDelete
  47. Oh My! I need to see him in that gray suit. He must be some kind of a vision in it. Help me out here...

    ReplyDelete
  48. Plane trees are adaptable to the climate and AIR POLLUTION in cities like Paris and London as they are able to thrive thru it all.
As far as US cities are concerned, I could do a doctoral dissertation on the differences between the east coast vs the west coast. Grew up in Miami, work in NYC ,live in PHX. Will bore you with the details in person on the 25!See you in NYC,too,Guille.

    ReplyDelete
  49. G-Ann: I can't remember what post the gray suit was from, but shy (or should I say sly?) USE might remember!

    ReplyDelete
  50. GA - I wish I knew how to do a search of PDP! It was a post earlier this summer where he linked to a newspaper interview with himself done in Hebrew, I think. The story included a great photo of Eric "workin'" a beautiful suit, leaning back on a romantic, vine-framed wall......

I'm sorry, what was the question?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Okay, GA, it was linked from the 17 June 2008 post, but I can't get it to load. The publication page may be dead now. I tried!

    ReplyDelete
  52. uselaine...It won't connect here either. But I started in Jan 2007 to search for it and came across the Feb. 1st, 2007 post it was...I can't even think of the word for it. Oh yes Dog Poop!!

  53. I had no trouble loading it. Try this and scroll down.

  54. The man doesn't sugar-coat the city, and I respect that. 6^)

    ReplyDelete
  55. Petrea...it worked...Eric looks super, no wonder everyone swoons over him in his gray suit...

    ReplyDelete
  56. Petrea, you ROCK! It works for me too. 8^)

    ReplyDelete
  57. ...uselaine thinks petrea's claims to not know how to use html tags are a little far fetched at this point...

    ReplyDelete
  58. Does anyone know where Katie is. Maybe she and Eric are have a late supper together.. Just a thought ;)

    ReplyDelete
  59. Lupine "Maybe Eric is just having a great time somewhere and can't break away." Er... Read my today's caption, you'll understand ;)

    ReplyDelete
  60. Weird, huh Elaine? I can put in a link but I can't make italics.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Okay, P. You see the examples of HTML that are allowed, listed right under the comment composition box? One of them is pointy brackets around a letter i. Put that pointy bracketed i at the beginning of the text you want in italics. Then at the end of the text, put another one, but insert a forward slash after the first point and before the i. The phrase should come out in italics. You do the same thing with the letter b when you want bold text. The letter a is something called an anchor, and you are already using it to make links, smarty pants.

  62. I'm way late on this but, Guille, that's great that you could take in that exhibition in Tokyo. Just to round out (and prolong?) the sensory experience of it here is some instrumental ensemble music you might have been able to hear in the Edo Period.

Or maybe something like this from an itinerant Zen monk on the street using his flute to beg for and express thanks for alms.

    It sure ain't Madonna.

    ReplyDelete
  63. The two above work for me but I'll try a couple different ones, Guille.

How about this one of the Edo Period ensemble piece? Or this one of the begging monk where you have to hit the "play" button.
