Fashion Victim

I'm sure you don't have a suit like this - and/or you don't know anyone who does! Only in Paris... When I saw this guy in this small exhibition about the 70's, I thought to myself "I have to put him on PDP!" so I started chasing him discreetly (I didn't really feel like asking him to model for me!) . It was hard, but I finally managed to take a photo by sneaking my camera between two other people. The result is not perfect, but good enough! Have a joyful Friday the 13th.

  1. It looks like a pair of flannel pajamas! I wonder how many people will admit to having some hideous outfits in their past.

  2. To having owned hideous outfits!

  3. I used to have some jarmies like that! I did! Verrrry similar. I miss them :( The ones I'm wearing are the same colour but with little white dogs on. In ...case...anyone ...is interested. Did I get carried away? ;)

  4. Oh dear, I hope this person isn't "discovered" as he may not appreciate being called a VOF. I think we all have been at one time or another.

  5. Stalking can be fun, Eric. ;)

This suit is so 1983 - but I shall say bully for him for being so bold in these trying economic times. Let's brighten up the place, shall we?

  6. I bet he got lots of compliments.
Lynn, I too had very similar PJ's!

  7. VERY colorful photo (and I love that you stalked this guy around a gallery). Ok I'll admit it - I had a pair of pants almost like this in the early 90s (the red wasn't quite as bright though). I only wore them at Christmas, but even then I got so many disapproving stares that I gave them away. I say this is a Fashion Don't.

  8. So funny! At first I thought Jammies, but you're saying a suit? Oh, most definitely a fashion don't. Although I had a skirt in a red plaid, I didn't have a matching jacket.... Nice stealth work, Eric!

  9. I like people who enhance my day with the joy of life, and this guy gave me my money's worth today!

The closest I got to funkyness in Paris, was to make my 2 neices walk around in berets with me all day. The threat was, if they didn't I wouldn't show them around. I know I had fun that day, enjoying the subtle smiles i got from the Parisians.

  10. Such fun.. I didn't have pajamas like those but have seen them on others.. for Christmas.. I think my sons had them.. and bathrobes to match..

How bold of him to go out in public like that.. a brave man, indeed.

  11. I'll say, good for him!

Then I'll stop complaining about my husband's cargo pants and t-shirts. I'm better off.

Lynn, please continue to get carried away whenever you see fit.

You say the exhibit was about the 70's, Eric? We wore some uuuuugly clothes in the 70's, but nothing quite like this suit!

  12. I bet he thinks he looks gorgeous. Very skilled capture here, Eric!

  13. Can I Petrea? Oh goodie... lol
Katie - disapproving stares; who cares? lol I wish you hadn't thrown them!
Ohhh I miss them. Let's bring them back! Any designers on here?
My sons had them too by the way when they were tiny. All three of them running around in little tartan jarmies...oh sweet, they were. Sigh...yes all four of us. ok, enough already.
er.....we also had red sweaters matching with snowmen knitted into them (my mother's a great knitter) oh yes. We did. I still have them all. lol Fashion disaster? Fashion schmisaster. I loved them. :)

  14. I swear I thought this guy was wearing PJ's!!!

From Cali, talking about hideous outfits, I once went to a party with an outfit that made me look like Jeannie (from the tv series I dream of Jeannie, starring Barbara Eden), only it was blue.

Mind you, it was not a costume party.

  15. His clothing makes more sense when you realize that he is the only boy in a family of dix-septuplets.

    ReplyDelete
  16. This man cannot be French! If so, he was not raised by an attentive Mama. lol

He won't have to change clothes to go to bed; just take off his shoes!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Gary, where do you get this stuff?

I know, the web, the web...

    ReplyDelete
  18. Eric -- you are becoming un maniac pour le photo—and it's all for us! What can I say? You're the best!
If this guy only knew how much clever commenting he's inspiring . . . (not to mention TG's links). You guys are all cracking me up tonight.
I also had these jammies, of course. And I don't care what you think—I do have a pair of plaid pants. Not quite this loud and not an entire suit, but whatever . . .

It's still the 12th here in the States, but as soon as it's the 13th, I'm putting a post on my blog that you should all check out—if you want to see just how crazy our friend phx-cdg really is (I'll come back later to provide the link).

  19. Two guesses what he's wearing underneath those pants.

  20. You all know that Alexa is GF for the year because she was first to post the day Eric showed the plaque of Chirac's name at Le Procope.

What you haven't seen are the REAL pictures at Le Procope of Alexa and her extra curricular activities. I told her I won't send her the pictures unless she posts them on her site!! (i just don't know how to post them....)She is a good sport. Enjoy...oh yes, Cali provided the other "plaques".

    ReplyDelete
  21. Fantastic the way you skulked around and captured this for us!
I about lost it here at the computer looking at Tall Gary's accessories for this guy! :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. For a moment, I thought I was looking at Dick Cheney's fall hunting collection to be sold no doubt at Paris's own Abercrombie and Fitch! Tall G-Man, you are so "plaid" with your linkin log-ins. lol Ah, the 70s...perhaps something Huggy Bear would have worn or the Bay City Rollers! Later all...ABBA is calling me! ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  23. i had a professor in college who wore the same thing all the time. but that was in chicago IL not fabulous paris!

Eric, i ADORE your blog. thanks for all your beautiful pictures. I feel like i am in Paris once again!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Non, non, non, French men DO NOT wear plaid jammies ,....I HOPE! It will ruin the image. I hope to never see these again Eric.

  25. Coming out of stalker mode to say-

Imagine the fortitude one must have to pull off an outfit like that! Or would it be a complete lack of judgment?

    Great pic.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Mon DIEU!!! I put that suit in the "Goodwill Box" ages ago!! I don't know how it got to Paris??!! It fits him well..good luck! Beurrrkkkk!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. My, oh my, oh my! I certainly don't think this guy would have minded too much. If you wear clothes like that, you really WANT to be looked at!

And Eric, what could you mean by "Have a joyful Friday the 13th."?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Alexa, the photos on your blog are a real laugh! Now we know why the building is tilted!

  29. To make it easier to see what a crazy woman our phx really is, just click here .

  30. I thought PJs at first, but one can see from the cut of the jacket, the drape of the pants, the lack of the slippers ... a suit it must be!

    {Tall Gary, LOL many times over...}

    {Coltrane, surely you aren't casting a-sporrans on the Bay City Rollers ... they sent me all a-kilter.}

    ReplyDelete
  31. Shell... "S A TUR D A Y Night!" (need I say more?) lol BTW...where are the Bay CR Boys these days? Keep hoping to see them on American Idol. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Coltrane: I think they sank with The Tartanic.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Monica: I bet you looked cute in your blue Jeannie outfit and I am sure the guys appreciated it.

    Shell: Tartanic! LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Quand on voit rouge, il vaut mieux se tenir à carreaux !
    (French joke !)

Ah ! Paris... j'aimerais y aller plus souvent.
Merci de nous en donner un peu d'air.

    ReplyDelete
  35. lol, Michel Benoit!

@ Cali: " wonder how many people will admit to having owned some hideous outfits in their past."

Er, I'm pretty sure that's all of us. I had these tri-color platform shoes that were absolutely hideous. But I didn't know it at the time, lol!

And you don't have to look too far in the past. most of the clothing nowadays, with lowrise cut pants and stuff look absolutely hideous and unflatering on many, many people. A good thing I can't buy pants in the States (private joke).

    ReplyDelete
  36. I, too, thought "Pajama Day!?!?!" Surely he is not Parisian. ;) I have to admit that I've seen Americans in the grocery store (college-age kids usually) late at night in such attire. Even then, however, usually the plaid is only on the pants ...

    ReplyDelete
  37. Wow, au début je me suis dis : ça, c'est "osé"!
En même temps, l'expression se tenir à carreaux n'est pas mauvaise non plus...
Amusant et photo réussie malgré tout ;)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I love you chased him, Eric. I've done that before and not liked to admit it! He looks like he's in some very bad taste pyjamas! Super!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think Michael's hit the spot, this man is SCREAMING "Look at me!" I think, had you asked, Eric, he would have posed, made shapes, even twirled for you. LOL.

Maybe the one taken through your newspaper with a hole in it was better though ;)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Lynn,
if I may, ose means to dare.
So since I'm intruding myself on this question I could say "si j'ose dire, ose veut dire to dare" ;-)

I thought that too, he's a pretty bold guy!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I like in Ukraine, don't be too sure I don't know someone who wears a suit like this! :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Lynn : 'osé' means 'daring', 'audacious', 'bold', Monica is right.
In this photo, as the suit had to be assumed by the man, we have this expression in French : "Wow, c'est osé" !

Not always easy to do for everyone but circumstances may help sometimes....
Hope I've been clear enough, Lynn :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yes, that bag just doesn't go with those white shoes. I feel sorry for the Scottish Cultural Attache in the cool suit having to be seen with her.
I could get my tailor to run you up a suit like that Eric, in the McTenin tartan of course.

BTW Tall Gary, where did you get that photo of my brother?

    Och aye the noo!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Good catch. Looks more like pajamas then a suit.

    ReplyDelete
  45. The sell pyjamas just like that in Tesco......

    ReplyDelete
  46. Find him, and invite him to the picnic in May!

    ReplyDelete
  47. That would be so funny, phx—but only if he's wearing that suit, of course!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I think he lost a bet (kinda able/unable?) and had to wear that suit the whole day ;)

    ReplyDelete
  49. That's...quite...surprising! Well, I'm not sure I would dare wearing that kind of outfit.
You're all right, this guy wants people to look at him, it's obvious!

Eric the way you captured it is really nice: like a spy! I hope he doesn't know the blog and won't pop in here to read all the comments we made about him! LOL

But, well, tous les goût sont dans la nature!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Shell...high ten for the "Tartanic"! lol Sure takes a Braveheart to pull that one off.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I'm still laughing from all your jokes!

Guille "Eric the way you captured it is really nice: like a spy! I hope he doesn't know the blog and won't pop in here to read all the comments we made about him! LOL"

    I hope so too ;)

    ReplyDelete
  52. So Eric, now you are also a paparazzi...LOL

    ReplyDelete
  53. To Christie who had a skirt in a red plaid.

I just remembered, I did too, for the longest time, but it made a completely different statement, had sort of a classic "Talbots" look. Completely different look ... er.. I hope. ;)

I won't even go into the way we used to dress in the 70's ;)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Tomate: "A good thing I can't buy pants in the States." LOL. Thanks for the memory . . .

Dear Mr. Plaid Suit: it's all Eric Tenin's fault. That would be Eric Tenin, spelled T E N I N.

What was the name of that movie? Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid? Yikes!

    ReplyDelete
  55. i LOVE it! This guy just stole my heart!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Oh yes I do remember ose now, I just hadn't seen it quite like that. Thank you so much Anonyme for explaining it and Monica too!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Well at least he would easy to follow in a crowd! At first I thought they were pyjamas!
