Mannequins

Today I passed again by this mannequins store that I already featured on PDP in September 2006. At that time the store looked so messy from the outside that I thought they had gone bankrupt or something. But no, apparently it's the normal state of this shop, as this time it was even more messy than last time! It's actually what makes it interesting for a photo ;) If you're in Paris and want to see it for real, the store's address is 54 boulevard de Sebastopol and it's called Alias Concept.

  1. Pick a guy, any guy! I don't know if I would actually want to go shopping here or not! I think maybe not.

  2. Why? None of them are Michelangelo's David! I'm picky. :)

  3. GF Christie! Good job. I'm not in the market for a mannequin, but it makes for a very interesting photo.

  4. I've been wondering what's been happening in the world of window mannequins. A couple of the urban guys are flirting with Scottish Royal Stuart Tartans. Maybe that guy in the suit the other day is more with it than we thought.

Hmm. A cowboy and a construction worker in Eric's photo. Are you sure this is a mannequin studio or the place former band members of "Village People" go to get embalmed?

  5. You'd need balls to stand in a store, like these guys!

  6. Petrea - I brought a lot of things with me last night, but a camera wasn't among them! : (

    What was I thinking?

I know Jeff had one, so he may be the last resort. What about Maria or TG?? I don't think they did, but I can't remember either!

  7. If I had to live somewhere that messy, I'd lose my head too!

And photographing all those naked Man-nequins has given poor Eric a terrible headache. Somebody put some clothes on them, please.

    TG, Queen Alexa has indeed aptly dubbed thee 'President Linkin'. I bow before thee. {My mistake. I'm so short, I only look like I'm bowing.}

  8. Eric,
Well, well, well. Another spot I didn't know about. You've found us lots of interesting things to see on our next visit, oui???

  9. They must have sent all of their clothes to New York: it's fashion week here!

  10. Something is missing from the male anatomy; his sex is lacking a penis. Maybe the sculptures or molders of these mannequins cannot quite deal with that part of the male sex. :^0 It is most evident on the mannequin in the foreground since it is a profile shot of the torso in silver. -- I posed once with my body covered in real liquid silver (I was naked underneath). The photographer was Jon Stevens (Salvador Dali's protege). Here is a link to Jon's site http://www.silverpeoplestudio.com/index.html BTW Jon knows me as Mars (or Marcella) Simon as that is my pen name. He might know me as "Lois" as well. I do not know as I haven't talked with him in over two decades. If you talk to him, tell him I said "Hi". He is a beautiful soul and a very handsome man. I was about 20 years old when I posed for him. The photo shoot was in front of the Guggenheim in NYC.

Eric, Good shot by the way.
On another subject, I am coming to the PDP picnic. Is there a list or something for me to sign?

  11. I thought that this store had clothesed!

Oh Lois, please come dressed in silver!

  12. Bon soir, mes amis. I am home and on the computer Monday night. I sent around some photos of our LA dinner. Only three turned our well, but they are fun. My heartfelt thanks to Carrie and Petrea for setting it up, and what an amazing thing that Lynn showed up. When I got in my car after leaving the restaurant, there was a text message from her that she was home already! Like Gary said before, an Airbus is faster than...we partyers!

So, Lois Simon is going to be in Paris for the picnic. Woo hoo! This will be fun. Surely, we need her to tell us what is missing from the mannequins. I will be sure to bring mine, however. I'm rather attached to it.

  13. Oh, I forgot to say that Gary is charming, Marie is full of energy, Petrea had us in stitches with a story of her giving Robin Williams permission to improvise, and Carrie is really fun. I think I was the dud of the bunch!

Also, my sister Diane, her hysband Chris and daughter Mallory joined us, as well as my good buddy Tommy and lovely Daniela.

Oh, yeah: the waiter's name was indeed Pierre, and he smirked at my bad French (I felt right at home). AND Pierre looked like he could be Arnaud's brother. Who took the photos of Pierre, people? He was a good waiter and added to our fun. He is verrry French.

  14. Okay, so this is really freaky! I posted my blog way ahead of time today because I wasn't sure what time I'd be home tonight. So now I'm home and I log on here and I find . . . pretty much what I have scheduled for 12:01 tomorrow morning. (Of course, Eric did it better—what else is new?)
    Christie -- way to go.
Lois -- I'm several shades of green with envy!

  15. Eric...is this another mannequin modeling protest against the no-tipping law? Geez, these mannequins really get under one's clothes. Have you noticed that they always want attention? What's with that anyway? ;-)

Lois or Mars...Jon's "Drum women" should be golden, not silver. They sure look much better than I do beating those tom toms. You're not one of them? or are you? ;-)

Jeff...glad to read you had a great evening in CA. Not that I had any doubt.

    Michael...always priceless.

  16. I protest! I did not give Robin Williams permission to improvise!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Petrea -- I'm gonna guess he never sought permission! (But would still love to hear the genesis of Jeff's thought.)
Whatever. So where are the pictures? On your blog, I find a chicken—a very zen and groovy chicken to be sure, but I was kinda hoping for you, Jeff, TG, PHX/Lynn, etc. etc.

    ReplyDelete
  18. BTW, Lois --I'll bet we'd all love to see this silver image, so please tell us—are you on this link (I hope)?
    {As for Dali—ewww!}

    ReplyDelete
  19. ohhh Gary - you beat me to it... my thought was we were missing the cop and the indian and a french rendition of YMCA.

Carrie/Petrea - I did not take a camera, Jeff took some good ones.

May I say how much fun I had and how charming everyone is....it was so worth the drive ;-)

  22. It looks like membership in this club requires no members.

  23. The link doesn't work for me Eric.

    Yay Christie GF! :)

Well, Eric, lots of naked men to choose from - I just can't decide.... I think perhaps the one you have photographed in profile is the one for me. :)

  24. lol UsElaine.

  25. There's only one little thing that lets them down!

  26. If they did have penises would they be classed as sex toys and attract Value Added Tax?

  27. Perhaps Lorena Bobbitt has been here. Ouch!

  28. And another thing, would they be in the 'not interested' or 'pleased to see you' (somewhere to hang your hat) mode?

  30. My pictures from Sunday night didn't turn out so well. I don't post them on Pasadena Daily Photo because they're not Pasadena shots. Might put them on my overage blog, "Overdog." I sent them and PHX's pics to Eric. Jeff sent his photos to Eric as well. We all have many photos from the same angle because Pierre, our waiter, was kind enough to take shots. Jeff's turned out the best. I hope Eric will post some today on "The making of."

The Robin Williams story is too long to tell here. It was a radio play where we got to do some improv. But believe me, it was the director who gave permission, not me. All I had to do was make it clear I was comfortable with it and off we (well, he) went. It was a blast. The play is "'Repent, Harlequin,' Said the Ticktockman" and you can get it at audible.com.

  31. These 'guys' don't do it for me.
I prefer them older, fatter and imperfect. Alive would help too!

  32. Rose, that's excellent!!!!!!!!
And I agree ;) This photo won't be in my Top 10 nor 100 ... but Drummond... your comments are pretty ... exquisite ... ouch :))) Especially the last one! Well, it's a question of circumstances LOL ;)
Laury : "forms and curves" ... are you sure in this photo?? Agree much more with you concerning the French kiss photo, best of the year so far!

  33. I didn't want to get you in trouble, Petrea, but I knew it would pique interest so I improvised a summary. You responded to the invitation well.

  35. After what Michael, Jeff, USElaine, Lynn and Tall Gary wrote (I realize I am leaving out a lot of you), I better say something. I was going to ignore all of this, but that would not be very responsible. Below is my response.

OMG, look what I started. Eric is going to kill me. He tries to keep his site PG-13.

  36. Hey everyone -- I just want to make sure Petrea doesn't suffer any negative consequences because of something she never said.

She told a story about how great it was to work with Robin Williams and talked about how it went from sort of dry to lots of fun improv and how she asked the director if they could improvise.

I was the one who wanted to get a laugh - so I blasted off into the absurd. It feels a little awkward now and I don't want it to take on a life of its own - as soon as my wisecrack came out, she protested, just like she's protesting now.

    So -- sorry, P.! : (

And, thanks for the link to the play!! : )

  37. If Robin is upset, tell him to call me. I will be perfectly honest and tell him "Beu deu geu deu. Pff."

    ReplyDelete
  38. Rose: LOL!
Men aren't perfect, they are just right, although sometimes they are just wrong! ;) Just having a little pun, kiddies.
You know things are bad when there aren't even enough clothes for mannequins.

  39. Cali, LOL :^) You are so funny and clever.

  40. No offense taken, I just wanted to set the record straight. It would be nice to be in the position to give Mr. Williams permission to do something, but alas, I'm not there. Yet.

  41. Here's the Alias Concept link Eric attempted (left the "r" off the tail end).

  42. I guess Eric is feeling so much better today he is out playing instead of posting. Naughty boy!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm not out, I was... working! I'm a few days away from big vacations so it's hard for me to cope with everything.

I saw that I received photos from the LA picnic, but I still did not have the time to look at them. I will tomorrow. (To those who sent me the photos, please don't be mad if you did not get any answer from me yet!).

Petrea "I hope Eric will post some today on "The making of." I will tomorrow.

I browsed through your today's comments quickly. I knew this photo would trigger non PG13 comments (Lois!) but that's fair. It's part of the fun too ;)

I rolled on the floor when I read Rose's comment saying that she preferred men alive!

Thank you Tall Gary for fixing my broken link... Tsss Tsss. (Mind you their site sucks so much that I don't think it was really worth visiting ;))

Last but not least I saw that Lois is coming to the picnic. Is that true really? You're not coming all the way from SF for this are you??
Anyway, I'm looking forward to your visit.

That is all for now, I have to go to bed.

  44. Thank you for the GF wishes...I think there needs to be some silver on it tonight!

I'm so glad you had such a great time at the California meeting of the PDP!!
