Home!

OK, it's not the most glamorous photo you've ever seen of Paris, but I could not really miss the occasion. This is the first time a movie is going to be released simultaneously in 100 countries and distributed through a lot of channels (including Youtube in HD). The movie is called "Home" and it was made by famous photographer Yann Arthus Bertrand (whom I met once, remember?) to make us realize how endangered - according to him - our planet is. Given his talent, whether you believe him or not - it's probably worth watching hos movie. I will probably this weekend.

  4. Gosh Suzy! I'm turning pink at the thought...

  5. Wow Eric, did you actually face off with a bus to take this photo for us? You're a brave man indeed. (I hope the bus driver swerved first!) Cool that this movie will be released on YouTube so people all over the world can see it.

  6. Peek a boo, I see you too! :) Yes Katie it does seem a little precarious, this latest position of Eric's. Perhaps he was in usual position, you know, flat on the floor, when the driver thankfully saw him and screeched to a stop?

  8. It's easy to believe the planet is endangered when you live in a drought area like southern California. I remember when you met this gentleman.

I'm always wanting to get into the middle of the street to take photos, but I haven't got the nerve. I think that's best.

  9. I saw a Taiwanese program advertising this movie. I thought it was made by Luc Besson.

  10. awesome trailer Eric, thanks for the tip. I can't wait to watch it.
Yann Bertrand's work is something I do not want to miss.

  12. I love this pic...!! Vraiment!! It is my new desktop background at work. Makes me feel like I'm being run over by the RATP bus!! Aiieeee!!

  13. everytime i look at it i find something new - instead of finding "waldo" i found eric.

  14. Suzy, you're right with the RATP logo, "it looks like a woman in the throes of passion"!!
More seriously -- and less sexy ;-) --, it's also supposed to be a representation of Paris (yellow circle) and its suburbs (green circle) crossed by the Seine (in blue)...

White Oleander, "Home" is made by Y. Arthus-Bertrand and produced by Luc Besson.

  15. Why, thank you Lily, I do enjoy making someone chortle. I keep telling my sons I'm amusing.

  16. Thanks Thib for the explanation - I do much prefer Suzy's though and think that's secretly the real one.

  17. Thib's is the version that's been sanitised for public safety.

    LOL, tonton_flaneur!

  18. Besson and Arthus Bertrand were on the radio yesterday, promoting their film.
For the first time in history, a film is FREE!!
As Eric pointed it out, you can also watch it on Youtube. But the best thing if you live here is to go to Le Champs de Mars and see the movie showed on a 27 meters screen!! (too bad, I'm working tonite...)

So, Eric, how did you manage to take the picture? Feu rouge?.. Hehe I imagine the driver's face.

  19. Home, I can't miss it. I knew you couldn't miss it.
On a personal touch, it makes me very precisely remind of a feeling I shared intensively and keep sharing it.
Today I'm at home. Not sick but groggy and tired. I woke up, helped my children to get ready to school and then went back to bed until now.
I know I need to go and see this movie. I need to see all these fabulous pictures of our planet and dream to see them by myself.
    I'm already feeling slightly better...

  20. Lynn, Shell, I also prefer Suzy's version ;-))

  21. I'm surprised I've never heard of this movie. It sounds like something I would definitely be interested in seeing.

  22. lol Thib somehow I thought you might.

Best wishes Anonyme, sometimes you have to give in to tiredness. Sleep obviously works - along with a bit of Eric.

  23. LOL Lynn! Absolutely... :)
Lynn, you are always very altruistic.
    I love that.
    Thanks a lot!!!
And all the best for you, too.

  24. Excellent - I will be on the lookout for this movie, Eric. I love the "global" release.

BTW - I put an example of how to make a Paris map paperweight on my blog for those crafty PDP-ers.

    Have a great day everyone!

  25. It would be really great if movie makers would do a bit of scientific research before they started producing "global warming" documentaries. Yes, the earth is warming. No, it is NOT caused by man. The whole global warming scenario is based on the false premise that co2 causes warming, in fact, it is just the opposite, warming causes co2.

  26. I always saw the logo like Suzy did,in fact, I thought it was Marianne, so thanks for the explanation, Thib. Knowing these factoids just adds to my enjoyment of the city.

Had lunch with Mr. Phx at Georges on top of Centre Pompidou.Tres romantique.(thanks for understanding, Petrea).
He got le stomache ache after eating too much so after viewing the Calder and Kandinsky exhibition I walked him back to the apt. in the Marais. I went to get him some badoit(fizzy water) and a few other things at the supermarche. I bought some Lipton peach iced tea for me and when I saw it had sugar--quelle horrors--I told the check out girl I didn't want it for that reason. The shock for me was when she got up from her chair with other people in line and checked to see if there was any diet tea on the shelves. I couldn't believe she did that. I was more than shocked. Did you hear that Safeway, Gristides, Publix, Albertsons...and anyone who dares to think the Parisians aren't nice!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. There is hope then, Phx. I mean for all, not just Parisians ;)

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm not surprised, Phx! As Eric the Brave (who plants himself in front of buses for us) says, "Friendly Parisian (yes, it does exist!)
Am looking forward to this film, Eric. (I had a kid named Luc Besson on my roster at the Paris modeling agency I worked at in the '60s—wonder if it was him.)

  29. Starman, questioning the reason for global warming doesn't change the fact that man is changing its environment so rapidly that we're bound for trouble. The attack on biodiversity, the over-use of natural resources etc are such major issues that anything that will lead humans to question their impact on this planet is welcome, don't you think?

  30. I heard presenters on the radio talking about the movie and it was amazing because the way they pronounced Home with a French accent, it sounded more like Om or Aum, the mystical and sacred syllable of hinduism. I had no idea it really was spelled HOME until I saw Eric's post.

  31. i like the pic but i would have put a panorama version [taking out the man part of the bus]. can you do that with your blog 9

  32. Thanks for the explanation, Thib!

I'd like that treatment at the grocery store, PHX, but wouldn't want to be in line behind the person getting that treatment! We Am's are always in such a rush.

*I don't know why I wrote "Am's" for Americans, but I think I like it!

  33. I'm with you Naatalie - I'm afraid I'm just so pessimistic - I can;t believe that societies can change fast enough to reverese the course of the juggernaut. I hope I;m wrong, of course.
