They do, they do!

How about a little love story to end this week? A few weeks ago I met young entrepreneur Carsten for a drink to talk about Paris Sharing, a place where visitors can not only find a real Parisian home to rent for a short period, but also share their experience with others. I also learned that he was going to get married to a true Parisian, Isabelle, some time in August. "Come and take a few pics if you have the time", he said. So I did! It's hard to take wedding photos without falling into the usual clichés (well, I find it hard!). Among the zillion I took, I selected this one that I took on the way out from the Salle des mariages at the town hall. Toutes mes félicitations aux nouveaux mariés ;-)

  2. Without your prose, I might not have realized that this was a wedding. I love that it is different from one normally expects in a wedding photo.

  9. Most pictures are face on, showing where you have been. This black & white representation shows the newlywed couple going into the future with a whole life ahead of them together. One more observation, being black and white brings your eyes focus on the couple and their celebration. Eric you showed a different perspective of a happy occasion.

  10. This photo reminds me of another black and white photo taken by Eric "Cupid" Tenin - on March 25, 2008. Does anyone remember?!! : )

  11. Oh la la, tres romantique—and I love that you put it in b&w, Eric. Felicitations, Carsten and Isabelle, and when (not if, when) I fulfill my dream of having a pied-a-terre in Paris, I'll let Paris Sharing know when I'm out of town!

  12. BTW, Carrie -- I absolutely remember that photo—I thought of it right away when I saw this post!

  14. I especially love wedding photos in black and white ~ this is beautiful, Eric, and certainly not a cliché. All the best to Isabelle and Carsten - may their wedded life be as timeless as your photo.

    LOL, Cali. Congrats, Oceane!

Alexa, I doubt you'll struggle to find occupants when you're out of town. You might need a 'ticket' system. :)

  17. Nice shot, Eric from an interesting perspective.

I'm actually a Registrar of Births, Deaths, Marriage and Civil Partnerships in the UK, and probably conduct about 150 weddings per year. It's always good to contribute to someone's big day.

Mind you, if you conduct 6 weddings in a day as I do sometimes, you feel pretty jaded at the end of it. You also have to be ultra careful to remember the names properly!

  18. Ahhhh...romance....
What a lovely photo and the B&W is perfect for it.

  19. I love this! It actually looks like it was taken in the 1960's, you know? So nice of you to help capture the day. Bravo!

  20. Congrats to the happy couple, and to you Eric, for a divine and non-cliche photo!

  21. I love the way you caught this moment, Eric. Honestly, looking at the few photos available (when you have not created your count) on Isabelle and Carsten's site, I thought to myself that yours was better. Indeed.
    That's cute.
And Becane is right : what counts a lot in wedding is what the newly weds are going to share into the future. This really moves me.
The celebration is a fabulous occasion to take engagements in front of family and friends. I do believe it is something extremely strong when true love is the hyphen between the two. Too young or still immature, you know too little about yourself at this time and that makes things hard to play. Less young, (but still young... well such as me!!), it depends on what you really need and want to live together. It is easier to be happy at a certain time in your life, well I think so.

As Cali asked about my crown, voyons voir, what about plenty of confettis? Seems colorful and joyful !!! :))

PS: I agree with Anne concerning the 1960's look.
PS2 : I like on their wedding website the 'billets de blog' and some of the 'notes' parts.

Congratulations Isabelle and Carsten and I hope you are in vacation now to have a good rest and celebrate ;)

  22. You are absolutely right about trying not to fall into cliches for weeding photography. This certainly doesn't. It's beautifully captured and my best wishes to the lovely couple.

I ahve just returned from the South of France, and how I wish I was back there.

  24. Beaucoup Romance! This picture makes me excited to rush home and kiss my bride. The American Charles Aznavour said it best.....

"Some day, when I'm awfully low,
    When the world is cold,
I will feel a glow just thinking of you...
And the way you look tonight.

Yes you're lovely, with your smile so warm
    And your cheeks so soft,
There is nothing for me but to love you,
And the way you look tonight.

With each word your tenderness grows,
    Tearing my fear apart...
And that laugh that wrinkles your nose,
    It touches my foolish heart.

    Lovely ... Never, ever change.
    Keep that breathless charm.
Won't you please arrange it ?
'Cause I love you ... Just the way you look tonight.

    Mm, Mm, Mm, Mm,
Just the way you look to-night."
