Nuit Blanche by Canal Saint-Martin

Tonight (Saturday night) is Nuit Blanche in Paris (white night an event that has been taking place every year since 2002. On this special night Parisians can enjoy dozens of artistic events such as this one that I photographed at Canal Saint Martin. The artist (Nino Comba) installed about 20 fishing rods along the Canal Saint-Martin. Only he replaced the usual string with optical fiber. The effect was stunning. Congratulations Nino!

  1. Excellent!!!! What a fantastic location for this spectacle! The blue threads of light on the still water are captivating. Wish I were there..."sigh..!"

  5. If he's fishing for compliments, he won't be going home empty-handed. ... I imagine they would also look pretty damn spectacular from the other bank, with their reflections in the water.

  9. I can't believe I chose to be in PHX this weekend(Nuit Chaude) over Nuit Blanche! I am so envious, and Nino Comba's work is too wonderful for words(just like another Parisian we know!).
I recognise this stretch of the canal as this was part of our walk when we rented at Quai Valmy. If you keep walking, you get to Guille's bar on the left hand side!!!!!

  11. Wow what a great effect and a novel idea. The line (not string) replaced with optical fibre must have looked marvellous. Even better if in motion - were they used?

  16. Ah, Les Nuits Blanches...Something I really miss about Paris/France. My Los Angeles beach neighborhood Santa Monica tried something similar last year, but somehow failed http://bit.ly/XSdFj
