Green Oasis

Yesterday was red, today is... green. Why? Because I had the chance to have lunch at the Pershing Hall hotel today where they installed a vertical garden in the restaurant, in between the two main buildings of the hotel. The effect is really cool (and yes, the food is very good too!). FYI the hotel is located in what is usually called the "Golden Triangle", that is an area in the 8th arrondissement located between Avenue Montaigne, Avenue George V and Avenue Champs Elysées.

  2. Even for eyes not starved of green (Brisbane, Australia) this is a stunning arrangement - a rainforest slope bristling with life!

  4. Beautiful photo!!! I've seen another vertical garden, on an streetside wall, I believe down on or near the rue des Rosiers. I think they are a fantastic idea and I hope they catch on. I'd love to meet you all for lunch here!

  5. I have been a fan of Patric Blanc's since I first saw his vertical garden at the Comme des Garcons store on rue Cherche Midi. He has done tons of vertical gardens in Paris and thru out the world, as your commenters will soon tell.
I just did a tour of the Flower Show at Macy's (don't miss) and during the tour, he pointed out a "vertical wall" with a dragonfly designed in the middle, saying that the walls are a "new fashion". Hooray for Patric Blanc and to Eric for showing one.

  6. So much to like in this photo, but my eye is first drawn to that splash of violet (in both top windows) and the graceful railings. The only bad thing about meeting here would be having to eventually leave.

  7. What a gorgeous spot! This quartier is too chi-chi pour moi, but let's do lunch here anyway.
PHX -- thanks for reminding me about Macy's annual flower show!

  9. I’m speechless with wonder even though I have been to musée du quai Branly.

The really nice thing about this restaurant that may not be so well known is that it is often used by world-famous celebrities who wish to dress up special yet still dine incognito.

  15. Wow! Such beauty to be enjoyed! That is absolutely gorgeous. Now that I've seen it, I can't imagine how they would decorate such a wall as this otherwise. It is just so serene and green.

  19. Eric, did you "rework" your photo? It seems that it is a mix of two shots ;-)

I checked the website of this hotel. Looks nice, but their photos are not as good as yours...

  21. I see what you mean Thib. Things don’t quite line up on the right, especially the bottom right corner. But it is good that Eric stitched the two views together so we can see this most impressive larger scene.
