Ferris Wheel at dusk

It's a classic, but it's still nice to see, especially at dusk. During the summer time, this Ferris Wheel is part of a small amusement park located in the Tuileries gardens, on the Louvre side of rue de Rivoli. I went on it once (in the winter time, when it faces the Champs Elysées) - I don't know if you remember, I already mentioned it here - but I suffered from a terrible vertigo and did not enjoy it, at all! We're still on a long weekend here (Monday is the 15th of August, a day where the Catholics celebrate Vrigin Mary), so let me tell you, Paris is very very calm right now!

  1. This almost looks Magritte like with the bright blue sky and the night dark buildings with the scattered lights.

  2. Lovely. This sure brightened up my dreary Ohio evening!

  3. The ferris wheel is a beautiful, polished silver against that blue and pink sky! I have ridden the ferris wheel twice, and I loved it both times. Oh, how I wish vertigo would leave you alone and let you enjoy it, Eric!

  6. Ah, I'll pretend I inspired the Ferris Wheel photo with my comment a few days ago.

Regarding celebrating the mother of Jesus: many years ago, I dated a woman who had a twin sister. They were born on December 8, the feast of the Immaculate Conception. Therefore, their mother's priest instructed her to name the twin girls Mary. Both of them. Imagine the identification nightmares. Same name. Even photo i.d. didn't help: they were twins. Talk about vertigo!

  7. Glad you took the photo from afar Eric as we don't want you experiencing any of the effects in this definition of vertigo on our account! ;-)

  8. I think you will want to get a twitter icon to your blog. I just marked down the url, although I had to do this manually. Just my suggestion.

  9. Stunning photo!!! I'm afraid of heights but love a ferris wheel!! You said you took it once in winter-will it be there this winter? I'm visiting in Jan/Feb and would love to see that (though I'll stay away from the edge of the pod!)

  10. That is gorgeous! (Is it just me or are your photos getting better and better these last few weeks?! Amazing!) I'm not fond of heights, but skydiving was really fun. Yeah, glutton for punishment. The few moments of abject terror were worth the plunge. :)

  11. Gee, I thought this was just a winter thing!

  12. Funny Christie, I was thinking the same thing. But Christie, is it me, or are you losing your Bejeweled touch?

  13. Eric's Vertigo and Jeff's two women who look the same - sounds like a good storyline for a film.......

Most travel guides say don't go to Paris in August, it's too hot and stuffy and everyone's gone on holiday, but you're making it sound tempting.

  14. Thank you Eric ! Love it. Yes, even always good, there might be even better shots lately. Something more mature. Lol No I'm just kidding ;))

  15. I saw the Ferris Wheel one evening when we were in Paris several years ago. Quite a spectacle....You couldn't get me on one of those if you paid me!! Heights scare the "dickens" out of me.

  16. I know what you mean by your vertigo. When I was young I loved all the crazy wild rides at carnivals. But the ferris wheel terrified me.

  17. Gorgeous! Sorry your ride was no fun, but now that you've done it you don't ever have to do it again. :~} I'm not at all afraid of heights, but I am afraid of Ferris wheels (might brave it for the photo op though).

  19. @Monica "Here´s a photo for the 2012 Calendar!!" That's a idea!!

@Jeff " Therefore, their mother's priest instructed her to name the twin girls Mary. Both of them." How ridiculous is that?! Sometimes, I wonder... Funny story though (and I have to ask: are you sure you only dated one?!

@Michael "Glad you took the photo from afar Eric as we don't want you experiencing any of the effects in this definition of vertigo on our account! ;-)" Why do I have the feeling this comment is highly ironic?!

@Sarah "You said you took it once in winter-will it be there this winter?" It will (January, but not February though).

@Christie "(Is it just me or are your photos getting better and better these last few weeks?!" It all depends on many factors including inspiration of course and... time.

@Drummond "Most travel guides say don't go to Paris in August, it's too hot and stuffy and everyone's gone on holiday, but you're making it sound tempting." I'd say "that is the best moment!" nice weather - well most of the time -, fewer Parisians (you KNOW it's a plus!), less traffic...
But lots of closed places too.

@Flore " Something more mature" Yeah, like me ;-))

@Anne" A much loved little baby was born in Paris today making me an international grandma!" Congratulations, then Grandma ;-) Was that a girl? Is she going to be called Mary (and on behalf of Jeff: "has she got a twin sister?!"
