I just spent two days hanging out at the Webdeux Connect event (a cool French networking event for geeks like me!) and I did not have a single minute to take my photo du jour... So here is a very peaceful Sunday shot that I took by the Canal Saint Martin a few days ago, when it was still a little warm. There is nothing extraordinary in this photo, but I like it. Off to bed now, tomorrow morning (Sunday), France plays New Zealand at the Rugby World Cup and I want to see this ;-)
I just viewed an exhibition that explains how Japanese prints of the 17th, 18th, and early 19th centuries influenced French artists of the late 19th century: Degas, Bonnard, Vuillard, among others, and Mary Cassatt and VanGough as well. Your photo recalls several elements of Japanese work: off-center composition, stark cropping, a tilted ground perspective, and scenes of every day life of normal people. Once again, you are exhibiting your Impressionist tendencies, M PDP.

ReplyDeleteHi Eric, I was hoping you may have shown a rugby related photo on you PDP site to support France in the Rugby World Cup Final. When in France last year, Christian Constants cafe in the 7th has a great framed minature jersey- half Les Bleues and half All Blacks. Quite a novelty and very apt for the RWC Final. Alas the Cup was won by the All Blacks , but Les Bleus ( my second team after the Wallabies- I am Australian ) really should have and could have won- only 1 point the difference. I loved the way France took the Haka back to the All Blacks. It was a great spectacle. We spent 6 weeks in France to coincide with the 2007 RWC. We spent 4 weeks in Paris in Sept / Oct 2010 and ventured to the weekly games of Racing Metro and Le Stade Francais. We really felt part of the local culture instead of just tourists. It was fantastic. International games are great. Unfortunately our favourite player Sebastien Chabal was not in Les Bleus this time- hopefully we will see him play again in France before he retires .
