Water Reflexion

It's a much more profane photo than yesterday, but it's still worth the look. I took it from Le Quai de la Loire, by the Bassin de la Vilette in the 19th arrondissement. The bank you can see in this photo is actually Le Quai de la Seine, where the MK2 movie theater (known for showing "intellectual movies") I already mentioned on this blog, is located. You may want to click in the photo to see all details.

  1. Not sure what you mean by "profane", but I'm a sucker for all your "reflection" photos. I love all the colors on the water.

    Very cool.

  2. There are so many different aspects to Paris. I learn so much about the city from your photos. We appreciate your roving eye.....and I mean that in the good sense!

  4. I have wondered if the boat ride up the canal is worthwhile. On a nice day, it would be a fun way to relax.

Katia took me for a walk around the Bassin and Parc de la Villette. Fun day.

  6. C'est fantastique! I love the variety of color and the reflection. Very nicely done, comme d'habitude, Eric.

  7. Nice one. I generally recommend shooting before the sky turns black, but this one works fine as the only thing remaining in the image is the light on the buildings.

  8. I love this picture!

@Jeff, yes, the boat trip on the canal is really worth it, and very relaxing as it cruises really slowly

  9. I'm a little lost on the 'profanity'. Fantastic photo though. Somehow it's Dark, Cold, Inviting, Colourful, Mysterious and Friendly all at once. Turn it on it's side and it could easily be a 'art nouveau' stained glass window. I like it!

  10. How many of you guys have just turned your head to the side to see what I mean?

  11. Re profane/ity. In fact it has several meanings; in French we use it mostly to designate something that is not religious.

In English, you seem to use it more to designate something unclean, impure, etc.

Check what Wiktionary has to say about it...

  12. I have only been here in daylight, but from this great photo I can tell that I have to go there at night as well.

Yes Jeff, the canal tour is just great. It's 3 hours through all the locks with a very interesting guide.
When we went we were actually the only foreigners the rest were French.

  13. @Bettina, this area of Paris is great any time and season.
I have stayed over 6 times not far from here in a great, modern hostel (I don't know if I can mention the name) and I love it.

Eric, you made my day with this photo... :)

  14. Question - I am thinking about coming to Paris for a week of solo touring in January. (I rode my bicycle from Bayeux to St. Maries de Mer in September and wa so tired, I cancelled my week in Paris afterwards). Are all of the museums and sights open in January as usual? Are the hotels offering deals then?

  15. It is gorgeous! Eric, you are spoiling us, you know. (Have we been especially good this year and this is our present? :)

  17. Dazzling photo, Eric! I really don't know anything about this part of the city. Any info on the barge trip?????
I bought a 1920 watercolor of Place Bitche at Vanves flea market and had no idea where it was. Now I see it is on that canal; I will have to make a visit.

  18. Does Place de Bitche satisfy your request, Drummond?

  21. must share this on facebook. Too gorgeous not to pass around. You've outdone yourself, Eric!!!! Surely this one will be a must for next year's calender?

  22. @Janette "Are all of the museums and sights open in January as usual? Are the hotels offering deals then?" Yes they are - except on Tuesdays, as always. As far as hotel are concerned, well I don't know. It should probably be cheaper in January, yes. Use the services of the companies that advertise on PDP, I'm sure they will be happy!
