Christmas is definitely over...

Like every year people get rid of their tree (I got rid of mine yesterday!). I already explained here that a lot of people simply throw them out of the window after, they've checked that nobody is at risk (hopefully). All this to avoid putting needles everywhere in the staircase and even though you're supposed to bring it to a recycling spot.! Walking down the streets of Paris after Christmas can be dangerous LOL. And before you ask I did like everyone ;-)

  1. I love it!! My absolute favorite image of Parisians!! And, now I can positively picture Eric, poised for action, arms full of green, whilst he leans out to peer for errant old ladies below...and then, seeing none...bombs away!! :^D

  2. Ohhh it's a sad sight, the forlorn tree after Christmas, its pretty lights and sparkle banished to the cupboard for another year...
Throwing these from a height alarms me! Everyone must walk along the street looking up in fright lol. We'd never get away with it in the UK. Too much Health & Safety.
Ohh this tree... triste... a l'anee prochaine x

  3. By the way you are very late getting rid of the tree. In the UK it is bad luck to leave it up after 12th night i.e. 6 Jan. We all get the willies if we forget after midnight on that day! Well, not literally, you understand... ;D

  4. Yep, Christmas is definitely over!

Great idea...throwing the tree out the window. If I had lived up a flight of stairs I would be doing the same thing.

  5. It's amazing to think of used Christmas trees being thrown out of windows....

  6. Never mind..... only 10 months to go before we'll be preparing for Christmas again :)

  7. LOL I can't imagine throwing the tree out the window! Of course, that would have alleviated the necessity of vacuuming up all the needles that I dropped on the way to the garage as well as the carpet shampooing that had to be done because of the dirty water that dripped as well! Oh well, there is always next year. :) Have a great day!

  8. In olden days in Edinburgh they used to shout "Gardyloo!" as a warning when they emptied the contents of their chamber pots out of the window onto the street. Gardyloo comes from the French 'Gardez l'eau' or 'Garde de l'eau'

Do Parisians shout out anything when they fling their Christmas trees out of the window?

  9. It's a sad image, Eric. I can't scold you since I did exactly the same when I put up a real tree. (Also, as far as I can see, the nearest recycling place is still a long way for you to have to drag your tree to!)

  10. @Lynn. " In the UK it is bad luck to leave it up after 12th night i.e. 6 Jan." Yes, a UK visitor told me this recently, but I don't think we have that in France. Actually I had a family reunion with little nieces last Sunday so that I kept the tree and told them father Christmas had passed by my house too ;-) The story sounded more realistic with a proper tree!!

@Drummond "Do Parisians shout out anything when they fling their Christmas trees out of the window?" Nah... We drop the tree as quietly as possible, the shit the window so that we can't hear any yelling LOL!

@Alexa " (Also, as far as I can see, the nearest recycling place is still a long way for you to have to drag your tree to!)" True!! That is why I did not bother. What was I gonna do? take it on my scooter ?!!

  11. So funny...I remember in Boston we used to drop it out the window also...and in one apartment I lived at in San Francisco we did it also. I remember in SF it used to land right side up on the base but all the needles would be on the sidewalk...LOL!!!

  12. Ohhhhh noooooo, Eric - I believe you've committed your countrymen to doing some dirty business once they have flung the tree out -- I hope they SHUT the window and not something else!!!

And, Drummond, I suspect that after looking out the window, those French tannenbaum tossers all whisper "Gardylarb"! ; )

  13. I should say, "Gardylarb, beu deu geu deu"!!

  14. This shot would've been more incredible if captured with more sharpness & a lower ISO. Although it's a great shot, adore your photography & tips. Keep it coming!
