AI Wei Wei takes over Paris

Berenice Abbott was not the only Exhibit at the Jeu de Paume museum yesterday... On the first floor there was another one going on, a more political one, a more provocative one... It featured the work of Ai Wei Wei (艾未未) ; a Chinese activist who spent some time in the US in the 80's. He went back to China in 1993 and  started criticizing the regime through his art and on a blog that is now closed, but which photos are presently exhibited in Paris at the moment (after many other places). The place was packed, but I managed to take this photo, that I love.

  1. Peek-a-boo, I see....well....a little more than I want to!

Good for you and Mssr. Jiffy Velveeta in getting out and seeing some exhibits. Many people don't take advantage of events in their own cities often enough.

  3. I like this photo too. The women are so colourful but I don't think they're Parisiennes (?).
I would like to see this exhibit and I think it's great that the Chinese regime can't stop him even though they closed his blog.

  4. You are such a good photographer, Eric. One day you will win an award for it. You heard it here first. ;D

  5. I think there is an exhibition of his sunflower seeds in Paris, too. They were at the Tate Modern and were individually painted sunflower seeds, millions of them.

PS was that your understanding of Chinese calligraphy when you wrote his name in Chinese? WOW!

  6. What an interesting photo exhibit! (the other "exhibit"...I could do without!) But looking at the faces on the wall, I wanted to scroll over left and right to see more. I'm with Suzy, people say they live in large cities for the cultural opportunities, but they never take advantage of them. Bravo to you, Eric, for doing so and sharing them with us!!

  12. Good question, Suzy. Don't know how you managed this shot in a crowded room, Eric, but it's so "you." Love it.
