Cocorico!

If you paid attention to the title of this post you saw "cocorico" which is French for "cock-a-doodle-doo" and also the onomatopoeia we shout when France wins a game or a battle. I thought since we're still in the top five (for the number of medals at the Olympics) it was the right time to go back to la Fontaine du Théâtre Français, the blue white red fountain located at place André Malraux and show a little patriotism on this blog! Out of fair play I will also congratulate China (even if they have 22 times our population), the US (even if they have 5 times our population), the UK (even if they are organizing the games), South Korea (even if I cannot find any excuse for being behind them!) ;-)

  1. I laughed with your description, Eric!! Well done to France! Let's hope it remains top 5 until the end of the games.

  3. Wonderful! So glad that France is doing well. (I have to admit, we have a French flag here and the kids are waving it whenever there is a French athlete and cheering for them. So cute!)

  4. Vive la France!

Place Andre Malraux holds a special place (!) in my heart. I took a great art history course in my bachelors degree program. I studied a Pissarro painting in the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and wrote an essay on it. While writing that essay I discovered Impressionism. That Pissarro painting is of le Place Andre Malraux, painted from his room in l'hotel Louvre. In the next gallery hung a Sargent painting of le Jardin du Luxembourg. Seeing that, I knew I had to see Paris. It took a long time, but I finally made it to Paris. Eight years in a row. Not enough.

  6. Hey, I'll bet the South Koreans made your cell phone. Now there's a reason.

  7. Forgive me, but I have almost no interest in les Jeux Olympiques. However, M. Tenin's excellent photo of the very famous fountain at la Place André Malraux is most enjoyable. One often sees photos of the fountain, but never with the vivid colors at night.
    Merci Encore, M. Tenin! :)

  9. I have enjoyed the Olympics this year. It is about all I can do is sit and watch TV.

  10. Bonjour Abe, I hear some resentment in your comment, and I understand if "all you can do is sit and watch TV".

You did post a photo on Brookville DP on the 5th, it means you were able to go out and take it, weren't you?

Anyway, let me send you all the positive vibes I can from Paris

    Eric

  11. 'Olypomania' in the UK, not just for our own athletes who have done us proud, but for ALL the athletes, winners or losers who have put so much effort into the games.
I was able to attend one of the events and the Olympic atmosphere has to be experienced at first hand to be fully appreciated.

PS Eric, re excuses for being behind us. The secret is that we have been feeding the French athletes large quantities of Fish & Chips, Roast Beef and Scones (Jeff's favourite) in an effort to slow them down.
Didn't work in the swimming pool, too much fish perhaps.

  12. Eric, I'm not a big sports fan,but your magnanimous homage to the Olympics started my day with a smile. I love this photo and it's one for the calendar in my opinion:)!!

  13. You did well in posting this red white blue fountain now!! Germany and Russia will probably pass the France, soon or late.
I saw how quite embarrassing it sounds to you to support French athletes. Ha ha. You would not like to appear partial to France to your readers, would you !! You feel far over all this. Of course.
But it's true that the French swimmers have well tamed the olympic water, this time. Not bad....
Though regarding to Michael Phelps palmares, it is a bit short...
Let's say It is big to each winner to have won. That's what I think. Respect!!!

  14. If they gave out medals for fountain design, Paris would get the gold! This shot is beautiful, Eric. And congrats to the French athletes—and to ALL the amazing athletes for that matter!

@Drummond. "Didn't work in the swimming pool, too much fish perhaps." LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

@Trishia " I love this photo and it's one for the calendar in my opinion:)!!" Ah yes, the calendar! I should start working on it shouldn't I?!

@Greg "Though regarding to Michael Phelps palmares, it is a bit short... " yeah yeah... But this one must be genetically modified, it does not count!

"You would not like to appear partial to France to your readers, would you !! " Or course not!! Do I sound like I am LOL?

@Alexa "If they gave out medals for fountain design, Paris would get the gold!" Thanks Alexa, but to be fair, I think Rome would get that medal...
