Eiffel Tower for sale !

OK... Maybe the title of this post is a tiny bit misleading... Even though it's true that part of the Eiffel tower is for sale today at Drouot, the main auction house of Paris! I even went to their warehouse to photograph it! What is it exactly? The old furniture (from 1983) and plates, glasses, table cloths... of the two restaurants (Le Jules Vernes and Altitude 95) that were totally redecorated in 2007, when chef Alain Ducasse took over. I must say I was pretty disappointed when I saw what was for sale, for it's pretty ugly. But I suppose buyers are more attached to the "sentimental" aspect of things than the actual value... BTW, I took this photo today from a terrace on top of the 50, avenue des Champs Elysées.

  1. Must be rue de Marignan and rue Marbeuf. Nice shot. I stole this one for my desktop. I'll wait for __ Suzy, __ Suzy, __ Suzy for further comment.

  2. The Eiffel Tower is always beautiful to look at. The colors in the sky are such a perfect background. Eric, you captured this picture at a perfect angle.

I enjoy looking at the amazing Paris sky when I come to visit. The color of blue or even cloud formations are unique to this gorgeous city!

  3. Well, a guy name Lustig from Austria sold the Eiffel Tower not once, but twice. His scam was that it was to be temporary anyway and that the government was selling the scrap metal off. He actually received money!

I will settle for a real plate.

  4. What a fabulous view! (And you're right—those chairs are ugly. I'm with PHX. Are they selling the plates too?)

  5. Hmm.. I probably sat on those chairs a long time ago, although I can't really remember anymore. Oh well.

And that comment is SPECTACULAR!! If I was in this spot I'd be there for hours, just sitting, just watching. And I'd totally have to but something at auction, ugly or not!

  9. If there was an ugly furniture award, this stuff would be making an acceptance speech.
Looks like it came from the canteen of the Nautilus. It really should have stayed 20,000 leagues under the sea.
Just hope the food was better than the furniture.
    Giant Squid anyone?

  10. Eric, this is one of those photos that makes me feel as though I am (blissfully) in Paris--not only because it depicts the Eiffel Tower, but also because it features the oh-so-Parisian buildings that surround it.
