Liberty Dance!

You all know there is a replica of the New York statue of Liberty in Paris right? (Actually there are several, but this one is the most visible, as it is on the tip of the Ile aux Cygnes - Swans island - a former levee that was turned into an island in 1827). Yesterday, the town hall of the 15th arrondissement organized a little event near the statue, with a band that put people into dancing mood! I  passed by it around 7 pm and took this photo.  Have a great week everyone.

  2. The dancing and the light (taken during the golden hour?) makes for a gorgeous photo.

  3. Ditto, Monnica! This makes such a nice moment. I've got that longing-for-Paris disease really badly right about now...and, there ain't no cure for the summertime blues.....except for a one way ticket to CDG, of course! ; )

  5. And a beautiful afternoon was had by all, Eric. I love that there are some little Statues of Liberty in Paris ~ seems fitting. Happy week to you, too.

  6. Eric,

What a great photo! I lived in Paris près des Invalides 87-89 and would run by 'Miss Liberty' on occasion. It was always great to see her as it reminded of the deep--and enduring--l'amitié Franco-américaine.

    Bravo!

  8. Eric, nobody can beat you!!!
You're such a gem for discovering everyday something new and different and stimulating and modern and creative and nice and tasty and ... lol. I know this kind of declaration won't amuse you a lot now since you've been said that a lot. But still I know you'll understand that I'm grateful to your dedication.
The video from yesterday post is adorable. I love it !

  10. That is a great photo! I like the low angle.

We have a replica of Lady Liberty in Colorado Springs too. Your photo inspires me to go and photograph her now!

  11. I brought my sister into the Luxembourg gardens to surprise her with one of the replicas of the statue of Liberty but the surprise was for me....it was only a picture of it!!! The Statue was being repaired!! Does anyone know if the REAL replica ( oxymoron anyone?) is back?

  13. Can you tell, Monnica - I am sooo pret!

And, Michael, I love what you said! I think the United Nations ought to adopt that phrase as a motto!!! Maybe people would adopt dancing as a conflict mediation technique on a scale from two to thousands - wouldn't that be cool?!

  14. Michael: Not just any dance...

    Mystery Dance

Romeo was restless, he was ready to kill.
He jumped out the window cause he couldn't sit still.
Juliet was waiting with a safety net.
He said Don't bury me cause I'm not dead yet.

Why don't you tell me 'bout the mystery dance.
I wanna know about the mystery dance.
    Why don't you show me,
'cause I've tried and I've tried,
    And I'm still mystified.

I can't do it anymore and I'm not satisfied.
I can't do it anymore and I'm not satisfied.

Well I remember when the lights went out
And I was tryin' to make it look like it was never in doubt.
She thought that I knew, and I thought that she knew,
So both of us were willing, but we didn't know how to do it.

    chorus

Well I was down under the covers in the middle of the night,
Tryin' to discover my left foot from my right.
You can see those pictures in any magazine.
But what's the use of looking when you don't know what they mean.

  16. @Monnica "How fun! Paris is such a great city - always something interesting to happen upon." Like in all big cities actually, don't you think?

@Kristie ". I didn't know there was a replica of the New York statue of Liberty in Paris. I learn something new everyday! :)" There are several actually: this one, one in the Luxembourg gardens and one in the Musée des Arts et métiers.

@WGM "It was always great to see her as it reminded of the deep--and enduring--l'amitié Franco-américaine." ;-))

@Katia "I know this kind of declaration won't amuse you a lot now since you've been said that a lot" IT DOES AMUSE ME - or at least flatters me ;-) Merci.

@Michael "The world would be much better if everybody just stopped and danced :-)" Yeah, right! You watch too much Glee...

@Tamera "We have a replica of Lady Liberty in Colorado Springs too. " Really? Gee, she's everywhere (except maybe in Syria, North Korea...)!

@PHX2CDG " Does anyone know if the REAL replica ( oxymoron anyone?) is back?" This the funniest line I've read in a long time!

@Thib "Tu es venu te perdre dans le XVe, Eric !!!! Quel courage ;-)" Je ne répondrai même pas...

@Jeff "Elvis Costello, "Mystery Dance"".... I don't think I know this one. But I could almost hear you sign along!

@Alexa "A perfect occasion for your famous perspective!" Well I HAD to have the lady in the picture of course!
