My street!

1st of the month, it must be a theme day within the CityDailyPhoto bloggers' community! Well, yes, it is... And the theme of the month is "My street". Well, I live in a covered passage (le passage Verdeau), which is not not exactly a street, but almost! Since they put Christmas decoration in it since the end of November I'm happy to show it... As you can see there are several stores on both side, most of them being either art galleries or antiques shops and restaurants (including the brand new Stube, a German restaurant that opened a month ago and of which you can see the red tables on the right. That's it... you know everything about my street, now is the time to check out the other ones!

  1. I just LOVE the passages in Paris! I always visit some of them when I'm there.
You live in a lovely beautiful passage Eric.

  2. Your street is a covered passage which makes it all the more charming.....and if it is raining, you don't get wet while waiting to be buzzed in.

My street is on Canal St Martin, where you get buzzed in while standing in the rain. There is a school on one side of our apt bldg and a take out Indian restaurant on the other. Across from us down the way a bit are the Pompiers, the firemen, whose trucks make NO noise at all when they leave.. They leave their shoes in the window to dry, and don't use a shower curtain when they shower. You can only see from the waist up from the street, not that I have looked.

  3. I went there once. Beautiful and somewhere cheerful. How long have you been living there ? What was your previous street(s) in Paris ? Did you like it too?

  10. Lovely photo..
I never saw these when I was there for a whole 36 hours, so I now have them on my list to see next time, when ever that may be..

  11. Your passage all decked out with a wonderful Tenin tilt.
I got a kick out of Phx2cdg's quip about having to stand in the rain on their street on Canal St Martin while you can remain dry. And the Pompiers showering. . . ah Paris.

  15. I too had not heard of passages but that looks like such a fun place to live and with the holiday decorations it just glows with warmth. I would find myself sauntering from store to store just getting to know the merchants and locals. Paris has so many hidden gems!

my street is nothing like that but when it snows the pine trees are absolutely gorgeous. that being said, I prefer no snow!

  16. Your "street" is a gem, I think if I lived there I would never want to leave, haha! Beautiful capture, with that angle and the moody lights...

  17. Well, that is just lovely! What fun for you to live so close by a place like that. Lucky you!!

  18. @NikitaDeBeau "I just LOVE the passages in Paris!". yes, I like most of them too and YES, I'm very lucky to live in one of them.

At night (around 8:30 pm) it is closed so that when I come home late, I have to dial a special code and walk through it as if I was some thief... It's fun!

@Petrea "My street is on Canal St Martin, where you get buzzed in while standing in the rain." Yes but you get SO MUCH more than in my street over there - and no I'm not referring to the rest of your comment LOL!"

@Anonymous "How long have you been living there ? What was your previous street(s) in Paris ? Did you like it too?" 8 years. I lived in many other places in Paris before (Batignolles, rue Lecourbe, off Madeleine... Levallois, Suresnes and Issy-les-Moulineaux - that's in the suburbs) and some other places I forgot about. My previous apartment in Les Batignolles was nice I must say.

@Kristie "It's also nice that it is covered and decorated for Christmas." Yes, good timing. BTW I had to climb up on a ladder to take as much as I could!

@Ms M "Looks like a wonderful place to saunter along, visiting the shops." True. And a lot of people do that - especially because there are 2 other passages like this near this one.

@Mark "I also love the passages of Paris" ;-))

@Petrea "Oh, you live in a passage! How wonderful! It's like living in a romantic novel!" A bit. They really belongs to the 19th century.

@Deb (o/i)n Mars! Yes, but I'm told it's going to be replaced with a Kindle store pretty soon (kiddddding!)

@Jo "I never saw these when I was there for a whole 36 hours" Yes, it's really worth seeing.

@Kim. Well I'm not too happy with the photo (too dark, too tilted, too something). But I'm the never happy type... Oh wait a minute... I'm French, that's right ;-)

@Adele "See, the things we learn from CDP!" Tell me about it!

@Tanya Next time I want to see Tanya r. LOL!" (private joke, You have to visit Tanya's blog to understand...)

@Anne "my street is nothing like that but when it snows the pine trees are absolutely gorgeous." Ahhhh snow!

@Londonlulu "Your "street" is a gem, I think if I lived there I would never want to leave, haha! " LOL!

@William "Interesting to see your street." Interesting to see yours, where the speed limit is 40 mph!

@Petrea "PHX, you are living my dream!" Do you refer to this part? " Across from us [...] the firemen don't use a shower curtain when they shower. You can only see from the waist up from the street..."

  19. It seems most City Daily bloggers live on unusual streets. I love this one!

  20. Um, Eric, I was referring to having an apartment in central Paris, but sure! Firemen in their showers is an added perk.

  21. OK, now I envy you even more! Beautiful place to live, congrats!

  22. I live in a street on top of a steep hill with a view of the ocean and often mist in the valley. It's noisy with bird life, sometimes the wind and not much else. But I love the passages in Paris and living in one must be amazing. Beautiful shot, thanks.

  23. Thank you Eric for answering ! Wow that makes a lot of places ! Congrats for the last one in Passage Verdeau !

  24. I love your passage (and also my used-to-be: Choiseul).
And your current apartment is perfect, à mon avis.

  25. Beautiful, Eric! Some day I will make it to the City of Light.

  26. So, Eric, are you a store figure who magically comes alive? (We call them mannequins, but in French, doesn't that mean a live model?) In any case, I imagine you looking over your shoulder before you step into an establishment; then you take your place in a window. Some day I will pass that establishment in the small hours of the night and see a figure that reminds me of someone...

  27. Funny how sometimes a single thing, word, detail, can catch my attention during long long minutes... This happened a few minutes ago and now I'm late ... ! mmm Paris apts.
