So hot!

It's La canicule (heat wave) in Paris (and in many places in France - and Europe - I hear that a lot of old people have started dying because of the heat in England). A canicule, is a long period of high temperatures during which  it does not get cold (enough) at night so that people's body has time to cool off. When it happens - rarely - old people die first. And younger ones take advantage of it to do things they would not normally do, like put their feet in public fountains, like in the photo that I took two days ago at the "new" Place de la République.  And of course, there is almost no air conditioning  in France !

  1. I love this photo, but hate that folks are suffering. Hope you get some relief soon.

  2. That looks very refreshing! It's 102 degrees here. But we are used to having heat like that during the summer, and most people have air conditioning. I'm so sorry so many people are suffering in France and Europe, and I hope it cools down soon!

  3. Eric, we are having 90 to 94 degree weather here in Columbus, Ohio. It rained a bit today and it's supposed to storm tomorrow when the cold front comes through. I am not a fan of this crazy hot weather and have been to Paris in August and know you aren't having any fun in the heat either. *sigh* I'd like to find somewhere with 75 degrees during the day, 55 degrees at night and no earthquakes!

    1. LOL I like the "no earthquakes" precision. I really wonder which state you're thinking about ;-))

  5. It's almost as hot there as it is in NYC—at 4:30 pm, it's 92°F (33°C) but it feels like 99 (37°C). But we have air-conditioning almost everywhere. If I was an elderly person in Paris, I'd go hang out in the lobby of some luxury hotel (or in a big stone church).

    1. And the BIG difference is the humidity. NY in the summer is almost unbearable because of the humidity I recall. But I suppose you get used to it and you stay in A/C!

  6. Come and live in Scotland. We have hit just above 30C here, but with a reviving breeze, and it is light till 11pm unless you are in the North when it never gets dark at all (although it has to be admitted that it never gets hot either).

    1. Well, yes, that is a good idea v. But in Scotland I'm afraid the problem is more in winter or autumn or spring ;-) (Just kidding, I don't know what I'm talking about I've never been to Scotland, it's just plain stereotypes!
