Liberty (part II)!

I know, I told you the story a 100 times already... In Paris you can see several mini replicas of the statue of liberty, including this one that was inaugurated by French President Carnot on July 4th 1889 and which is located in the middle of l'île aux cygnes (swans island) . Of course you all know that the statue of Liberty that you can see in New York was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and has been given to the Americans by the French in 1885. Anyway, this is the first time I showed it from this side ,as, to do so, you must walk along a mini highway that runs along the embankment and it's really not easy!

  1. I learned something new today! I didn't know about this sculpture...

  2. The base of the "real" statue of Liberty was designed by Gustave Eiffel (I learned all about it in Edward Rutherfurd's book "Paris" [which is really amazing]).

  3. Like Mrs. V says, the things you do for us to give us wonderful photos! But I understand. It IS a good view -- I have sometimes taken a bit of a risk to get the "best" view for a photo. Hard habit to break :-)

  4. Good job. This photo as an evidence is nice and I'm glad you took this way. Eiffel like Haussmann marked Paris forever. The liberty part is also a strong basis of our lives, well for me. But I trust you to be a free man among the world wide web, followed by thousands of free people. And the Statue of Liberty as a symbol !

  5. We really owe you for this one, Eric! And we NYers owe the French for our beautiful Lady Liberty (that I get to see almost every day). Such a great gift!
