The second most expensive city in the world!

I just found out this morning that I live in the second most expensive city in the world, after Singapore. I'm a bit surprised (I would have thought London would be more expensive than Paris for instance), but apparently this result is based on true facts: the comparison of prices of 160 products and services in 140 cities. More on the website of The Economist. I thought this golden door knob that I shot today on my way to the doctor's office was perfect to illustrate this sad fact!

  1. It does look like quite a ritzy door knob, after all.

  5. Are you trying to say golden door knobs are unusual in Paris? Doesn't everyone have golden door knobs? You could have just snapped your own !

  6. Not everyone Stuart, now that Paris is a mere second in the expense stakes. If it keeps dropping more and more people will lose their gold doorknobs! On a personal note, I'm not sure if I'm impressed or appalled that we're 5th.

    2. Ooops sorry, I don't even know how to read! Sydney of course. I'm surprised actually, I don't recall it to be super expensive.

  7. So I ought to stop whining about the expense of the San Francisco Bay Area? Not a chance. And we don't rate a mention on the website page. If I read correctly, I'd have to purchase the report to even find out if San Francisco (where I don't actually live) is mentioned. But I like Maria G-L's fix to economize. And compared to most other places in the USA, good wine is quite inexpensive.

    1. In fact this kind of studies does not mean much. Because you may spend a fortune on food or restaurants in some places, but you may also save on medical or education expenses. At the end of the days it's how much remains in your pocket after you paid absolutely everything.

  8. I'll bring my tent and food next visit.
These surveys are always a bit misleading, I find some things are relatively cheap in Paris and others expensive, so just avoid the expensive stuff!
