We went in September/October and our night tour guide didn't realize the boat tour schedule had changed to the fall schedule that day and the last boat had departed an hour before we arrived. It was my birthday and I'd strapped a gorgeous chocolate cake (in a box) to the rack on the back of my bike, and the tour guide had paniers full of the wine our group would have drunk on our boat tour, so we rode over to the Parc du Champ de Mars and had a night picnic on the lawn, met a bunch of fun people and had this spontaneous party at ten a night with the Eiffel Tower! Eiffel Tower!! Eiffel Tower!!! (TM Suzy) sparkling above us. Magical! I would recommend all of the tours this company offers, including the Segway tours. They hire enthusiastic guides, the riding was easy even for children and old folks on one of our tours, and the routes they take through Paris are amazingly safe (the group forms its own "critical mass" the few times it has to maneuver through or across traffic. Very fun and memorable. The same company has bike and Segway tours of Barcelona and Berlin, as well. Worth every penny.
-Kim
Seattle Daily PhotoKimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03687351187791689224noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11471590.post-68622921759772722202008-08-31T02:03:00.000+02:002008-08-31T02:03:00.000+02:00I took a Fat Tire night ride in Paris, and it was ...I took a Fat Tire night ride in Paris, and it was a lot of fun.
I highly recommend it!

johnAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11471590.post-90297411891180932692008-08-29T03:22:00.000+02:002008-08-29T03:22:00.000+02:00lois!!! We took the bike tour to Giverney to visit Monet's Gardens and had a picnic along the river bank along. It was, without question, the best part of our trip. The sights were fabulous, as were the people we met in the small towns of Vernon and Giverny. The ride was not too strenous, even for those who have not been on a bike in a long time. Our guide was also great-- she was very knowledgeable and provided us so many details you could not get from a pre-recorded tour. It was the very best way to see the countryside!

Thanks Eric for reminding me of a wonderful time with this shot.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11471590.post-72158681680077158132008-08-28T20:18:00.000+02:002008-08-28T20:18:00.000+02:00LOL Suzy, "sent me around the moon and back". She use to wink a lot when she talked to people. It was so charming. She use to give me all her rodeo costumes when she thought she had worn them too much. Ya know, she didn't like to perform in the same bell bottoms twice. And they had matching tops. They were all hand made for her in Parker, Arizona. They were so cute. I mean it, I felt like a queen in those bell bottom outfits. The fabic and sewmanship [sp?] and design -- a work of art. And they fit like a glove. The shirts were really tapered for a woman's body, with a lot of needle work and pearl buttons. The evening was great to see Paris at night, it including stopping for the best ice cream in the world behind Notre Dame and a ride on the boat with wine. Versaille was fantastic. We got up early and road the bikes to the train station and then loaded the bikes on the train. We stopped at a local farmers market to goodies for lunch, cheese, wine, fruit, bread and headed off for the Palace. Lunch on the canals riding on the grounds of one of most beatiful places I've seen. Highly recommend the tours. I would do it again. I prefer to take certain things in life at a leisurely pace and I've a feeling seeing Paris in one of those things that needs to be savored.

lois, definitely a beautiful photo. And great bike story! I think you may be right about the winking. Westerners still think of winking as a friendly gesture. Around here it's thought of in one of 2 ways: If a good looking person winks at you it is friendly/flirty. If a not so good looking person winks at you then it's creepy, whether they are just trying to be nice or not. So sad, because winks can be such a wonderful gesture.

Coltrane! Before I forget, I think you'll like the highlight of that day I wasn't feeling good. I've been wanting to redecorate my apartment for awhile so I decided I'd go out shopping for it while I wasn't feeling good in an attempt to feel a bit better.

After I had gotten all the things I wanted from one of the stores I chose the cashier I would go to get checked out for the sole reason that she looked rather like Ella Fitzgerald from a distance. Well guess what, up close she looked even more like Ella and her name was Ella! And she completely gushed over the throw pillows I had chosen for my couch, so that added to my temporary increase in good mood.
