Workers (Demonstration)

Since I decided to continue PDP for a while, there are no reasons that I miss the traditional 1st day of the month "Theme day"! Only this time I could not take a photo especially. So here is the closest "workers" (that's the theme of the month) related photo that I could find on my hard drive! Yes, it's a demonstration, and yes, it was not too hard to find one as we have (should I start saying "They" have?!) many protests of the kind... Remembering the dead...

It was hard to pick today's photo for I had to 1) comply with the CityDailyPhoto theme (Landmark) and 2) think of the dead, for, in France, today is La Toussaint (all saints day), a day where you're supposed to think of the loved ones that passed away. Then I remembered I had several photos that I took in the Montmartre cemetery, which definitely qualifies as a Paris Landmark and of a tomb of a famous painter  who died in 1927: Edgard Degas (originally spelled "de Gas"). By adding a spooky colo(u)r, it could also have qualified for Halloween, but it's not really a French tradition, so no need to add more constraints ;-)

Movement

Today's theme day is "Movement" among the CityDailyPhoto community. I did not really have anything in mind, so I thought of using this shot that I took last weekend on the Quais (the river banks). It would have served the purpose better if the bike had been a little blurry of course ;-), but you get the idea! Check what movements the world has to offer on the CDP portal.

Rust is beautiful!

When I heard about today's theme day I really did not know what I was going to photograph. What can be rusty and make a good photo at the same time? Well, I did not have to go very far; the Pont des Arts had all the rust I could hope for! I hope the love between the ones who put them there is less rusty than what their lock shows at present;-)). Theme day: Take Away Store

Today is the 1st of August and the theme day within the CDP community is... Take away store. You probably expected a typical around the corner French take away place, but instead here is the most global fast food company you can think of! Why? 1) because take away is not very French 2) because I just read the news that McDonald's France has had its best year ever since their start in France! Which is ironic since, when they thought  of extending to Europe, the McDonald's management never thought the French would go for such a food... The truth is... "they're loving it!"  If you wan to see real local take away places, check what the CDP community has to offer.

Celebrating (Summer)!

Today is July 1st and it's a theme day within the City Daily Photo blogger community. This month's theme is “Celebrating Summer”, so I went down the street and looked for people celebrating... It was not hard to find, as... we (France) had just won the game I was telling you about yesterday. So yes, I cheated a little bit; I'm sure these people are happy that it's summer of course, but they are definitely more excited about our victory than the season ;-) . Zest!

Yeah! It's a theme day today and the theme is... Zest!  In French, we use the word zest, but mainly to designate the skin of a lemon: "un zest de citron". Apparently in English it means many things including: energy, exhilaration, vitality, enthusiasm... so I thought a photo of these very energetic street dancers would be perfectly suitable for today's theme. Huge success on the Champs Elysées yesterday, as you can see! As for me, I'm off to an island somewhere in the Mediterranean sea... Check what zest means for other CDP bloggers throughout the world.

Squares

May 1st, it's Labor Day in France and it's a theme day among the CityDailyPhoto bloggers community. Today's theme is "Squares" and, well, I did not really know what to choose... And then I remembered a photo that I took Monday from the office of someone I had a meeting with. Aren't there enough squares in these old buildings (old warehouses) to comply with today's theme day?! I thought so too ;-) 

Look for the triangle...

No, it's not an April fool's day joke, it's simply a theme day! For yes, ladies and gentlemen, if you visit the city daily photo blogs today you will find triangles in each photo. Silly? Yes, but funny. BTW, did you spot the triangle in this photo?

People on the street...

You know how I dislike to post photos of people (the French law is very strict about this, even though nowadays, with all the cameras, smartphones and social networks, this law is obviously outdated...), but for today's theme day (people on the street)  I'll make an exception. And I am sure that these two young ladies won't mind ;-) Happy CDP theme day everyone!

Entry!

I did not know what the CDP theme day would be when I left Paris in January, but fortunately I have brought with me a photo that matches pretty well the theme of today: Entry! Here is one of the "entries" of Le Louvre Palace. Nothing much to add, except that I encourage you to visit the rest of the CDP community to see what sort of entries there are around the world... 

Best photo of the year!

Like every 1st of January since 2005, the CDP tradition is to post the best photo of the past year... This year I thought of a recent one that I took at the Eiffel Tower. I know a lot of you liked it too ;-) Happy new year everyone! Check now all the other "year photos" throughout the world.

Looking out!

First of December, it's a theme day!! And the theme day is... Looking out! Which can mean many things. I saw that some people were demonstrating today in front of the Eiffel Tower (on the Trocadero esplanade more accurately) and well I suppose they qualify as "looking out for our future". A bit far fetch?! Yes you're right, but I lack inspiration these days LOL! Have a great Sunday everyone (especially Americans who have to rest after having had too much food AND too much shopping!). Down to the last "detail"

October 1st, the theme day is back again ;-) Today's theme is "Details", which I thought was cool. Until I had to take a photo for it... What detail(s) was I going to take for this theme? Fortunately I passed by a Repetto store today - a French manufacturer who makes garments and accessories for dancers. They had this dress on display, with a nice detail: dragées. So here you go! Pink!

Today is September 1st and it's not only the last Sunday before pupils go back to school in France, but it's also a theme day within the City Daily Photo blogs community. And since I'm a good "pupil", here is my contribution. Not that pink I agree, but that is all I found "pink worthy" in Paris today! I actually love this photo, even if it's not perfectly in tune with today's theme. See what's pink today in the rest of the world here! 

Paris street lamps (lampadaires)

Originally I had plan to stay in Nice until last Sunday, but I had to go back again for a week. And since I have very very little time at the moment I did not anticipate the theme day. Fortunately, among the zillion photos I took with me there is one that I never posted and in which you can see one of these gorgeous street lamps that we have in some areas in Paris (I took this photo at the beginning of rue Saint Antoine just before it turns into rue de Rivoli). Do check what other cities in the world have to offer when it comes to street lamps! 

Petit Palais Façade

Today's theme day is "Facades". Living in Paris I had more choice than I could even think of, but... on Saturday night I had a terrible food poisoning which led me to no sleep at all and a whole day in Bed! So I had to dig into my photo collection and here is what I found... It's the Petit Palais which a paper company (Canson) adorned with colorful wrappings. I wanted to post this photo earlier but was waiting to go back (I don't like this one too much (too many cars, white sky...). But for now, it'll do. I'm going back to bed right right this second! Don't forget to check the other facades throughout the world by the way!

Beauty of decay

Today's theme day within the City Daily Photo community is "The beauty of decay". I must say that I really did not know what to post! I thought of digging something into my street garbage cans(!), but I quickly gave up! Instead I chose this shot that I took a few months ago that shows a "decaying" building somewhere in Paris. Whenever this happens graffiti artists take advantage of this "open air canvas" to turn it into a fancy (well sort of...) painting. So here you go... (I know it's a little far fetched!). Check other "decaying scenes" throughout the world!

Creative artisan

Before going on vacation I took enough photos to be able to publish one a day while away from Paris, but... I forgot to take one for the CityDailyPhoto community monthly theme day which is: "The creative artisan". So for once, I'll republish one: the one of a Tailleur de pierres (a stone cutter), that I took in 2006, while they were renovating the Tour Saint Jacques. I had been fascinated at that time by the work of these artisans who did all the cutting and the carving exactly like in the old times, when the tower was built (between 1509 and 1522). Fascinating. Of course, do visit the page dedicated to our theme day to see other artisans in the world.

Pedestrian crossing

It's April 1st, I should be posting an April fools' day prank, but no... Remember on every 1st of the month it's a theme day within the CityDailyPhoto community and... well today's theme is: pedestrian crossings. We no longer have passage cloutés (nailed crossings) like this one in Paris; they have all been replaced by zebra crossings like the one in this photo. Not very typical Paris, I agree, but theme compliant! One important thing: unlike in most civilized countries in the world, pedestrians don't have the right of way in Paris (they legally do, but not in the mind of Parisian drivers!), so don't expect that cars will stop for you! Please, have a look at all  pedestrian crossings all over the world!
