Freeze!

No the title of this photo has nothing to do with the current Paris weather (even though I hear it would be appropriate!), but with a big "street freeze" I photographed at the end of March 2009. It was fun, shame they don't do that anymore... Sorry for the late posting these days, but I've had to get my local Internet subscription, and it was not easy to choose!

Winter sky

I hear it's very cold in Paris at the moment... It might even snow a little bit! I thought a typical winter sky was appropriate! I took this photo from les Tuileries if I recall,

Cold and rain!

I took this photo from the first floor of the musée des arts et métiers, a great museum located in one of the Louvre palace wing. Not to be missed if you come to Paris. But the reason one I picked it today is that I looked at the French news today and saw that it was going to be 4°C in Paris today. I thought this was the perfect illustration!

Street music

Almost every Sunday on the Place Colette (near the Comédie Française theatre), the classical group Classique Métropolitain performs in front of the passers by. Always a big success! I've been willing to photograph them often, but never did. Mostly, because I never found the right angle... This one is probably not right either, but that is the best I could come up with ;-)

Another beautiful day

As some of you may already know, I'm going to move from Paris at the end of the month and, well, I'm currently in the middle of preparing my move, which is very time consuming! So the only photo I managed to take yesterday is this one - on the Pont du Louvre. Not very interesting, but very in tune with the stunning weather we're having in Paris at the moment. I should maybe stay after all LOL?

Roarrrrrrrrrrrr!

Yes, another sunset (it's been sunset week!). This one from the Tuileries gardens. The lion was made by Giuseppe Franchi.

From Kazakhstan, with love...

As you're all aware, I'm sure, it's currently the week of Kazakhstan in Paris ;-)) and, well I could not miss that, of course. So I went by the Louvre where they have a big exhibition - and a stage to listen to Kazakhstan music! - and well, it was the occasion to meet NOT camera shy people, which is a nice change from Parisians... The tents in the back are Yurts, a sort of local condominium... Have a great Sunday everyone, in Kazakhstan and everywhere in the world ;-)

Last rays of sun

The sun is back for a few days and since Parisians know they will have to wait until April or May to sit and lay outside again, they tend to take advantage of it as much as they can! Besides, is there something more beautiful than a Maillol Statue in the Louvre garden (this one is called Montagne and it was made in 1937)? I did not think so!

Dancing Queen

Call me ignorant, but I did not know of Louise Fuller (aka Loïe Fuller) a famous American dancer who died in Paris in 1928. Why am I talking about her? Because... this is her! Or rather, a statue of her by Georg Baselitz, a German painter who's work is currently exhibited in Le Jardin des Tuileries during the Fiac (the modern art event I was telling you about a few days ago).

Art in the street

I love it when the Fiac (Foire internationale d'art contemporain) takes place in Paris for not only do art professionals get to meet and trade, but the average Pierre gets to see art everywhere. They have "Hors les murs" (outside the walls) installations everywhere in Paris and it's really great. I will show you several ones, but to start with, here is a gigantic installation called Magna Mater by the Chapuisat brothers that I photographed in the middle of Les Tuileries gardens. Beautiful.

Letting the grass grow under my feet...

After a whole morning sorting the stuff in my cave (cellar) I took a few hours off to enjoy the last days of Paris sun. God was it gorgeous! I went to Le Louvre gardens, where they surprisingly allow people to lay on the grass among the beautiful Maillol statues, and enjoyed a sip of coffee. I was not the only one, for sure...

Gorgeous weekend!

We're having one of these late (in the season) gorgeous weekends and it feels good! Too bad I have to spend my Sunday clearing my cellar... Have a gorgeous Sunday everyone!

Up a tree!

If you're on social networks, you probably have seen this already. This? Is an inflatable piece of art by Paul McCarthy, an American artist (from Salt Lake City) known for his provocative installations (check this article). Therefore, what on earth could this giant green mushroom that grew over night on the Place Vendôme really be? Various propositions circulated these past days - including, of course, a giant sex toy - but the reality is much less daring... This is simply a Christmas tree!

Sunset at Les Tuileries

Two days ago, I went to see a very interesting exhibit (photos by American photographer Garry Winogrand) at the musée du Jeu de paume in the Tuileries. When I came out of the museum, the sun was going down on the Place de la Concorde and there were a few people on a bench admiring the scenery. It was gorgeous.

Good lighting!

I don't know of they changed something in the lighting of La Conciergerie, but it was really stunning last evening when I passed by it. With the Gare d'Orsay, it's in my opinion the most beautiful building along the river banks.

Balloons in the wind...

Among all the jobs that could have disappeared because of "modernity", I would have probably bet that balloon seller would be among them. And yer, they are still around and probably prosperous! Come to think of it, it makes sense, there is still no way to digitize balloons, nor to turn them into an app! (and they allow photographers to take interesting shots ;-)) Have a great Sunday everyone.

Préfecture de Police de Paris

The prefecture is a large building located on the Île de la Cité (opposite to Notre Dame). It is the head quarters of the Paris (and surroundings) police which  manages emergency services, administrative duties (ID cards, driver licenses and "permis de séjour" for foreigners!). Their building (old 19th century barracks) is absolutely beautiful, especially at night.

Traffic Jams

Like in all big cities there are many traffic jams in Paris (we call them "embouteillages" in French - or bottlenecks in English). Paris is not the worst though, according to Inrix (an American company specializing in traffic monitor worldwide), it is the 8th most congested city in Europe. In 2013, Parisians wasted no less than 55 hours in their cars... I took this photo in the tunnel than runs under le Louvre gardens.

Big blue...

I'm not currently in Paris at the moment, but I know the weather is really improving. I kinda knew that before leaving so I packed a bunch of blue sky photos ;-) This one was taken near the Louvre entrance - through the arches that  lead to the Cour du Louvre, precisely. Not much to see, but a cool effect. have a great Sunday everyone, I'll be enjoying the sun on a little island in Southern Europe!
