I went to La Défense yesterday for some last minute shopping (the shopping mall there is the only one opened on Sundays) and I took some time to go up the steps of the Grande arche and look at the sunset on the other side. It was stunning. Now is the time to fly back "home" after a hectic week in Paris. However, it seems that Malta is going to experience the same cold wave that the rest of Europe is experiencing! It's a good thing that blankets were on the shopping list yesterday ;-)

Sunset at Les Tuileries
Two days ago, I went to see a very interesting exhibit (photos by American photographer Garry Winogrand) at the musée du Jeu de paume in the Tuileries. When I came out of the museum, the sun was going down on the Place de la Concorde and there were a few people on a bench admiring the scenery. It was gorgeous.

Another classic view
Yesterday evening, I had a business party on the left bank and I took the Pont Notre Dame to go to it. It was around 8 pm, the sun was almost set and the light absolutely stunning. Even though I must have posted this view a zillion times already I couldn't help but pulling the trigger one more time ;-)

Balloons in the wind...
Among all the jobs that could have disappeared because of "modernity", I would have probably bet that balloon seller would be among them. And yer, they are still around and probably prosperous! Come to think of it, it makes sense, there is still no way to digitize balloons, nor to turn them into an app! (and they allow photographers to take interesting shots ;-)) Have a great Sunday everyone.

Can you see Montmartre?
In France, we have a bunch of old songs from the (19)30's that are either funny, silly or stupid, and sometimes all of this! There is one called "Monte la-dessus et tu verras montmartre" (step on this and you'll see Montmartre!) and I could not help but think about it when I saw this photo on my computer - for yes, the little church on the hill in the background is le Sacré Coeur.

Paris rooftops
Yesterday evening I was invited to a farewell party of a friend who's going to work in Berlin. For the occasion he borrowed the offices of friends of his who are lucky enough to have a large terrace on the rooftop of a Paris building. The view was as stunning as was the company...

Sunset over Paris Plage.
Yesterday it practically rained all day, so there was not a lot of people on the beaches of Paris plage, the "fake beaches" that the Paris town hall installs every year on the Seine banks. But last evening, after the clouds were gone, I decided to take a walk along the embankment and take advantage of the stunning sunset. It was just perfect and very cool...

Quiet please!
Gee, what a celebration it has been! Parade, WWI exhibit, concerts, fireworks... We Parisians - and the tourists - really had a great time. Had we won the soccer/football World Cup as well, we would have been ecstatic;-) Time for a little break now... How about this beautiful Tour Saint Jacques at sunset that I photographed a few days ago. I know you've already seen it, but...

Good night Paris
Last evening was the longest day of the year (I took this photo around 10:30 pm!) and it was also a beautiful day (the sun shone all day and the temperature was ideal!). I went to Les Buttes Chaumont to see what the sunset was like and I did not regret it. I know this photo almost looks unreal (even from another galaxy!) and though I promise, I did take it last night in Paris. Today should also be a nice day and I'll be attending a barbecue with a few friends.

When the sun goes down on Paris...
I was coming home a little late yesterday evening (around 9 pm), while the sun was going down on Paris. I could see it in the mirrors of my scooter and I was thinking to myself: "I must stop and take a photo, the light must be beautiful!". So I did... and I don't regret it! FYI, the opera house (Garnier) is at the end of this street.

From Paris, with love....
The contagion is spreading! I did not take this photo on the Pont des arts, but on the Passerelle Simone de Beauvoir, in the Eastern part of Paris. For the time being there are only a couple, but I bet that pretty soon it'll be covered in love... locks. Ah well, at least it allowed me to take a nice sunrise photo.

The ice rink opens today!

After almost 9 years of daily posting in Paris, I realize how the same events come back every year and how we take for granted things that once were very innovative... Take the ice rink in front of the Paris town hall that I showed you many times. When they installed it for the first time in 1997 it was a real big deal, but now we're so used to it, it's part of the winter scenery! Anyway it opens today (Friday) and it's still very nice to skate (for free!) in front of the Hotel de ville with Notre Dame in the background (yes you can see it in this photo!)

Winter sunset

All sunsets are different, at least in Paris. More than that, they vary a lot from one season to another. For instance, I don't know exactly why, but this one is typical of winter (probably because of the colors). I took it from a high point in Paris (I'll tell you where exactly later...) two days ago and the view was really spectacular.
