Rotten spring!

You may think this is an old photo that I took last winter, but no, I took it very recently, while I was having dinner at a friend's house in the close suburbs of Paris. It was sooooooo cold, that my friends decided to start a fire! I just read that today, we're going to break a cold record for this time of the year! This terrible weather also has a tremendous impact on the economy; not only are the terraces empty, but there is not even a line in front of Berthillon!

Cold wave!

After an amazing period of mildness, winter has finally decided to come! Europe is currently experiencing a massive cold wave which includes France, of course. We had -6° (21.2° F) this morning and forecasts show that it's going to be worse towards the end of the week (-11° C - 12.2° F)! (See more here). Wearing these warm "space" boots was definitely a good idea! FYI, there should not be any snow in Paris though... Too bad ;-(

Paris Monsoon?!

I often get emails from people visiting Paris asking me "I'm coming in [month] what should I pack?" I never know what to reply as, in Paris, you can never tell in advance what the weather will be like. Take this early July period, for instance... In theory, it should be warm an sunny, and though we're experiencing some heavy rains. And the week to come does not look too good. Tough luck, I'm going to Brittany (Bretagne) tomorrow (Monday) to follow the Saint-Malo>Nantes stage of Le Tour de France. I'd better take my umbrella!

Rainy Paris

I hate to say it but the Paris weather is not always sunny. On average it rains 171 days per year, during a total of 548 hours - the rain is pretty well distributed over the year (even though the dryest season is spring). Snow is pretty rare (15 days on average) and so is the wind (44 days per year). Now the good news! In Paris, on average, the sun shines 1 798 hours per year.
