(Almost) all about Eve...

I found this stunning statue in Le Square de la butte du Chapeau rouge, a park located in the 19th arrondissement from where you can enjoy a nice view of Paris. This statue is part of a monument (a "water chest of drawers" as they call it) that was made by sculptor Raymond Courvégnés in 1938. And the lady is Eve, the first woman. The things you learn on PDP... LOL!

  1. I'd look away from the camera if I were photographed in the nude as well. Very nice.

  3. It is very elegant in its simplicity. Great find!

She makes a good buddy for my icon photo > > > >

  4. Very nice photo Eric - just a touch of modesty in the full daylight. Please visit my blog, Paris Photo Art, for a look at a similar statue in Jardin Des Plantes with a little different twist on modesty - I think that you'll enjoy the look. David

  5. I am laughing at where you cropped the photo,Eric, and yes Suzy, it does look like your photo's dopplegonger(help me, spelling police).

  6. BTW, it is 11:45pm in LHR, and am I in my hotel room sleeping?
NO! I ran downstairs to check if there was a computer free so I could see if there was new photo on PDp. I am PDP POSESSED!

  8. sorry, one more comment. UKlynn, I just now finished reading yesterday's comments and you mentioned the premier of Sex in the City in the UK. I'll bite on that.

I just watched the replay of it on the TV in my room here in LHR(I bet you watched that , too tonight) and also watched the Madonna concert in Kent before I came down to post.

I think lots of us are girlie girls on this forum and are interested in the movie.

  9. phx-cdg, you make me laugh...

    Great photo (lighting, composition,subject matter)!

  10. PHX - I cannot wait until the Sex and the City movie comes out! I watch reruns of the show every night. I wish we could all go together and then discuss it over cosmos afterwards!

In case you are wondering - I'm the Miranda of my group, though I want to be Carrie so very badly, if only to get my hands on Aidan.

I can't stop looking at this photo, Eric! It really is beautiful.

  11. Un air d'Aristide Maillol non? I like her, a little bit proud, a little bit mysterious...

    ReplyDelete
  12. I'm not like any of them, but understand Charlotte the best.Do you think UKLynn is Carrie?
    Look what you started UKLynn!!!!
The movie All About Eve, IS THE BEST, Tonton, I agree.
I must get some sleep or some poor passenger will incur my sleep deprived and derived wrath tomorrow.

  13. LOL anonyme Everyone else would look away if I were.

I was just thinking the same thing :)

  14. Oh Eric! This is a lovely photo, the smooth white (modest) form of Eve against the pure blue sky and protected by the spring green flora. Truly, this is one of my favorites so far.

Ah ha, hello fellow SATC fans. I am waiting to see the movie with my dear friend Charlotte (lol, I mean Heidi). I have been told I am a Carrie, by a Mr. Big. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  15. I wonder who does her hair? Adam?

PHX - "doppelganger" You were pretty close!

    ReplyDelete
  16. This sculpture seems to have the body of Samantha, but the modest face of Charlotte. I love the pale watery blue sky. PHX I agree with you that the cropping is perfect. I wonder how many photos Eric took that showed just a bit too much, um, shrubbery?

    ReplyDelete
  17. All about eve, love this movie too. I like old movies a lot.
    Nice, simple photo!

Phx, Suzy and others Sex and the Ciyt fans, Lynn and I are counting the days to watch it. We were just saying that we'd certainly watch it together if we were in the same city.

I have taken the Facebook test to see which character I am, and the result came out as Charlotte. I hope I'm not as naive as her though...

    ReplyDelete
  18. Monica I found a quiz to take, and I'm mostly Miranda, with a bit of Carrie. I'm sure all the guys reading will groan at all the SATC talk, but Eric did post a photo of a naked lady! I'm still cracking up at your winter photo; it's lovely but a Burbury scarf is not exactly what I think of when I think of Brazil!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ah Brazil, Monica, it came to mind today that I was in the Brazilian Vogue once. A photo journalist came to my studio to interview me and take photos. Her name was Kathrine Millionaire (I don't know if that was a stage name or pen name -- or what -- maybe it was real -- I don't know).

Ah Eric, classique physique. When you look at a masterpiece like this (and the world has a ton of them) it makes me question why women get in-plants in their breast. Maybe it's just another fad distortion like the bussel [sp?] hooped skirt.

Sex in the City, my daughter thinks she is most like Charlotte. BTW My daughter's name is Charlotte.

Marie, thank you, I did enjoy the spa. I'm a new woman as a result of all that pampering.

    ReplyDelete
  20. She looks sweet enough to be Eve. I imagine she's tall, from the angle. What's a "water chest of drawers?"

Lynn, it's true your photo stays the same as posted in comments, but when one clicks on it to enlarge, one finds whatever the current profile shot is. So I was too late to see the risque shot and am forced to wonder about the teeny one. It looks rather like a marionette with a big kitty.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh--and I've never seen Sex In The City. I'm a bad person.

    ReplyDelete
  22. eric's cropping ios very fig leaf like. she does look a bit camera shy. i wonder what kind of apple she plucked... was it a granny smith or a golden delicious?

    ReplyDelete
  23. i wish that i was carrie too.. alas, i think that i'm more like skippy ... the hopeless romantic! i guess i can identify with a dude too:)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Is she really a 1st woman? Is she? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Well, like Eric and Petrea, I have to admit I've never watched Sex in the City either.
But I do think both Eric's and Suzy's photos of Eve are magnifique!

    ReplyDelete
  26. She's really a classic beauty this Eve. No wonder she could make Adam sin. He would probably do anything for such a lovely lady ;)

Until recently I never knew what SATC is. But then I borrowed the complete series, in a pink shoebox, from my sister, who is addicted to SATC, and I spend an entire weekend watching it.
It's great fun. I'm not addicted though, but I'm certainly going to see the movie as soon as it's out in DK.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Petrea, I predict you'll star in the spinoff series, Beneath The City of the Sex. And you'll be, uh, Tryphena.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Tomate is a facebooker! I was so excited to see her! Sign up everybody! Tomate you are a gem!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Actually, Eve was not the first woman. The first woman was Lilith.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Petrea: Lol! Me neither. But oh well. :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. From Wiki -
Lilith (Hebrew לילית) is a mythological female Mesopotamian storm demon associated with wind and was thought to be a bearer of disease, illness, and death. The figure of Lilith first appeared in a class of wind and storm demons or spirits as Lilitu, in Sumer, circa 3000 BC. Many scholars place the origin of the phonetic name "Lilith" at somewhere around 700 BC.[1] Lilith appears as a night demon in Jewish lore and as a screech owl in the King James version of the Bible. She is also apocryphally the first wife of Adam.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hello, Marie! Interesting! Never heard of that.

    ReplyDelete
  33. i hadn't either until starman commented that eve really wasn't the first woman. that thought is in an uncanonized book of the bible. that's news to me too!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Isn't the first "real" woman Bree from Desperate Housewives?!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Lilith was also a 1964 movie starring Jean Seberg, Warren Beatty & Peter Fonda. According to Jean Seberg's biographer it was her favourite role.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Wow i did start something! lol. I am counting the days. Perhaps we should try to watch it on the same day and gather afterwards to post-mortem it? lol. I adore the series. I think i'm definitely Carrie but with Charlotte's style - oh and her morals - on a good day. LOL but then i would, wouldn't i? I've watched all the news reels of the premier here in London, and a couple of interviews but there's not enough! I could watch it all day. Wish i'd been well enough to go! What were the chances of the premier of a New York-based film coming to London? Grr.
As for Big, i've known a few of those, and Adens and... oh this must be so tedious for those not in the know! Petrea, it's not that you're a bad person, but you're definitely a person missing out! Get the box set now! thank you for your lovely postcard today - quite cheered me up x

    ReplyDelete
  37. By the way, don't we ladies ALL think we are the first woman? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Katie and Lois, it can be a bit (just a bit) cold in Brazil. Only in the south, I admit, but it even snows there did you know?! Of course here in Rio it doesn't get cold very often, but now that the winter's coming it is possible to wear a scarf!

Lois how exciting that you once were in the brazilian Vogue. You must have been thrilled!

Did somebody mentioned Desperate Housewives? The real woman there would be Lynette. She is awesome!!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Lynn, how are you feeling today?

Yes, let's do it, let's watch SATC on the same day and talk about it afterwards!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'm confused, how can he edit the title if he's gone and (supposedly) don't have (a lot) of computer-access?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Marie, Eric's right: the things you learn on PDP? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Should've been an exclamation mark there, sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oh Monica, everybody knows the first Lady is Gaby from Desperate Housewives. I mean she has the 1st class shoes, the 1st class dresses, and the 1st class attitude.

Of course, we could presume that PHX-CDG is the 1st ıf she's working that class on all those flights!

    ReplyDelete
  44. ahhhhhhhhhh !! eric did change the title! i would never have noticed. that is too funny:)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Does anyone remember in the late 90's there were those "Lilith Fair Concerts" touring the major cities in the US? My daughter was a teenager then -- that's when I found out that Lilith was Adam's first wife. They got a divorce though -- ha hum. Those concerts were the rage among teenagers.

Monica, yes, I was thrilled to be in the Brazilian Vogue. In early September, we have a Brazilian Independence Day Celebration in Golden Gate Park (San Francisco) Hall of Flowers. I went once with a very handsome Brazilian man -- that's how I found out about it. There was Brazilian food, music, dance, arts and crafts. It was very crowded and a lot of fun. This is an annual event. There is going to be a Festa Sertaneja on June 28th http://www.friendsofbrazil.org//events/index.htm in Golden Gate Park.

  46. Where are the men to discuss which SATC sap, I mean man they identfy with?

Almost all about, yes this is a PG13 rated blog, usually. I suddenly have this desire to spout inappropriate 4 letter words . . . maybe I should head over to Lynn's blog ;)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Great photo, Eric. I wonder what you think of all this Sex and the City discussion.
Suzy -- don't think I am any of these women (even if I am in New York). But I'd like to be Carrie, only because I want Big -- Aiden is just too tame.
Never have seen Desperate Housewives. And didn't Roger Vadim think he married the first woman (several times)?
Lois -- my 2 daughters went to the Lilith Fair thing, too, when they were teenagers. I was so glad when they finally got over Courtney Love!
A bunch of you have new photos -- nice!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Marie, thanks for the interesting story of Lilith! Now that I have your face so clearly in my mind (thanks to Eric's video), I can hear you tell it so clearly.

Hey everyone, I'll watch Sex (in/and) the City just to join in the fun with you all. Are we talking about the movie? What's the plan?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Eric, kudos on the title change. LOL!!! As for "Sex in the City"...hmm, not bad, but I'm rather hooked on "Young and the Restless" at the moment. I know, I know...shoot me! (And nothing about REAL MEN DON'T WATCH SOAPS...you'd be surprised!) Now as for "Almost about Eve"....

    ReplyDelete
  50. What's the plan?

First we all need to go to Tomate's blog to order our Eiffel Tower purses!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Hi Everyone, it seems the fashion for me over the next few days WILL be that stunning of garments, the open-back bottom-revealing hospital gown. I will now doubt be handed my baggy paper knickers on arrival. Yep i have to go in tomorrow, possibly for a few days. Appendicitis is back on the menu for possible causes, or some other infection, possibly a girly thing, it's okay you can carry on reading; i won't give the gory details, men! I may pop in later tonight otherwise i'll see you all in a few days. While i'm away, get up to all manner of sauciness, gossip and joviality for me to catch up on. xx miss you already.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Really sorry to hear about this...do get well soon, Lynn!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Ah yes, anonyme reminded me that the last few episodes of Sex and the City do take place in Paris! And Carrie is quite obsessed with seeing the...wait for it...

    EIFFEL TOWER!
(Just one today. I was up late last night and can't muster the energy.)

Fascinating to learn about Lilith! Frasier's ex wife's name makes sense now.

Heck, all women make sense now.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Oh Linnie...sorry to hear your news...

  55. USlaine
Congratulations on GF...but next time add another line or PHX will tell you off!

    Lois
The Brazilian Vogue? Wow..scan the article and send it to us... we will translate it, won't we Monica.

    Michael
You forgot to add that Gaby is also the first lady of University of Stupidity!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Best wishes to you, Lynn, from me too. Hope you will be fine very soon.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hope so, thanks. I love the name Lynnie by the way! Someone said it here the other day too - i think it's charming. How i shall miss PDP! Don't think i can even wait up for the new photo. I reckon it's going to involve Eric himself in some way. Don't know why - a feeling! Wonder if i'm right?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Lynn, get well soon - hope you don't have to stay long in hospital!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Thanks for the tip, Rose! I'm still finding my way in PDP Comment Culture.

(GF...GF..., goose flesh, gold finger, gelato frutti, grande femme...?)

    ReplyDelete
  60. Lynn yo take care of yourself, you hear?
Hope you get better real soon and don't stay in the hospital for more than one day tops. We can't stay away from you for too long.

Lois, the Festa Sertaneja is because of the celebration of Saint John (here we say Festa junina, the word junina comes from João, that is, John) that takes places in June here. Usually there are great typical food at these parties, so if you go make sure to try it.
I've been to the Golden Gate Park once by the way, lovely place!

Rose, we sure will translate it if Lois sends the scanned article!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Eric, I love little bits of information like this. It's so pleasing. I'll bet most Parisians don't even know it. Thanks.

Lynn, you must get better fast. Can you have a laptop in hospital?

Coltrane, I did some episodes of Y&R a while back. Long story, but it was fun.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Oh tell us more Petrea. Were you the saucy housewife cum trouble-maker or were you the rich "other woman"? Nahhh, you're too nice...but do tell!

    ReplyDelete
  63. No, Michael, I was the nice nurse who told the saucy housewife that her daughter was brought to the hospital by the rich "other woman." Or something like that.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Very nice photo in its simplicity.
