Eiffel Tower on fire!
You thought you were done with Bastille Day celebrations? All wrong! There is no 14 Juillet celebration without a firework in the evening. Every single town has its own, even if it's not as elaborated as the one I was lucky enough to witness from the Champs de Mars Monday evening, right after a music concert (French music mostly) took place. I know I'm making you envious, but one thing I can tell you, it was Fa-bu-lous! Check out this little video, you'll miss the atmosphere of course, but you'll enjoy some of the music they played during the show ;)

OMG! How do you do this???? I think I am in love . . . with this photo ;-)
ReplyDeleteHoly vache (sorry Louis) what an AMAZING photo! I can just hear the fireworks from here!!
ReplyDeleteLOL Cali. Actually it looks like it's Photoshoped, but it's absolutely not!!
ReplyDeleteKatie, I did not do anything, the firework people did ;)
Il est un beau tour.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing, and look how they matched the tower lighting design to the fireworks design! And the distant backdrop of more explosions adds wonderful depth. They are as design coordinated as, well, as French couture.
ReplyDeleteOutstanding! This is simply magnificent! I am envious Eric, now that you mention it!
ReplyDeletePerish the thought, Eric! I know by now the talent you possess.
ReplyDeleteThank you Eric! :))
ReplyDeleteHow great it is to see it AGAIN!!!!!! Yes, I too, was amongst the... 600.000 happy spectators!!!!!! I agree it was fabulous. It lasts not less than 30minutes!!! The music (Opera) during the firework made it be even more beautiful & gorgeous. Well, Paris has confirmed yesterday, as if it had to, that IT iS THE CITY OF LOVE and OF LIGHTS!
Sorry if i am a bit chauvinist ;) but how could I resist?
Je vais m'endormir avec ces belles images ;)
Eric you're way too modest! I bet there were lots of people taking photos of the fireworks, and the majority of those photos probably don't look anything as wonderful as this one. I can't wait to watch the video when I get home, as I don't want my co-workers wondering what I'm up to in my cubicle ;-)
ReplyDeleteEIFFEL TOWER!
ReplyDeleteEIFFEL TOWER!!
EIFFEL TOWER!!!
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
I see as much beauty and far more atmosphere in this "Nocturne in Silver with Iron Lady" than I do James Whistler's "Nocturne in Gold."
ReplyDeleteYes, it is the ET, but what a thing of beauty. I love the contrast between yesterday's post and today's. What a great evening that must have been. Thanks again for brining a bit of Paris to your friends at PDP.
ReplyDeleteOK, I think I would seriously have passed out if I had personally seen not only the Eiffel Tower twinkling like crazy, but also fireworks exploding behind it!!! Sensory overload!! Too much awesome-ness to take!!
ReplyDeleteEric, pretty please, will you Zazzle this one and the gorgeous blue Eiffel Tower you took a couple of weeks back??? Merci Beaucoup!!
BEAU-TI-FUL!!! I must go edit my links now (I was linking to the celebrations in Paris and I absolutely *have* to link to this pic!) Thank you for this!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are making me envious! I would have loved to have seen the celebration.
ReplyDeleteI want you to know that it's because of you, that I have started my own site for Phoenix Arizona. I found your site 2 years ago when I was researching for a trip to Paris and I've been viewing it ever since. I finally decided I should join this happy group of people. Thanks for the inspiration.
Eric!!!!!!!! You´ve did it again!!!!!!! Wonderful, absolutely beautiful and magical.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this!!! And may I add it all becomes even more amusing when we know we´ll "hear" Suzy scream: Eiffel Tower; Eiffel Tower; Eiffel Tower
What a stunning photo! It's so full of sparkle I could go for a champagne. So celebratory and as US Elaine said the colors behind add more depth. Check out the guy with the video camera trying to get some of the action! Your photo captures all the drama of the eve, Eric.
ReplyDeleteHey Monica...a nice tribute to your birthday week, eh!
Tall Gary...nice connect, though I do love Whistler's too.
Welcome Sharon to PDP land! It is a "happy group."
Welcome, Sharon!
ReplyDeleteEIFFEL TOWER!
ReplyDeleteEIFFEL TOWER!!
EIFFEL TOWER!!!
(a picture like this gets more than one post from me but I couldn't think of anything more appropriate to say ;)
EIFFEL TOWER!!
ReplyDeleteEIFFEL TOWER!!
EIFFEL TOWER!!
Oh, Eric, I am in love with this picture! I SO have to go to Paris in July!! I want to take a picture like this!! So gorgeously, gorgeously, gorgeous! Amazing.
Oh Gosh, look at all these cameras and cellphones!!!
ReplyDeleteThis picture is AMAZING. I never saw that. C'est beau, c'est beau, c'est beau!!!!
Here it's the fireworks period too but I was not lucky enough to see them yet.
Tall Gary, Place des Vosges? Nah! I'm too bobo (bourgeois bohème) to live there LOOOOL.
My new flat is on the Canal saint Martin. The place to be. ;) It's a very nice place near République. I'll share a flat with two guys.
Petrea, don't scold me :( It was not mean!
What a fantastic shot!
ReplyDeleteWell Done.
I was fortunate to visit Paris for a week when I was in High School. It is because of this city that I now visit urban centers all over the world.
Tall Gary...with regard to Whistler, he was a good friend to my man Mallarme who aided the artist tremendously in Paris, so I'm a bit biased. Then again, who can touch Master Camerasmith E. Tenin?
ReplyDeleteGuille...two guys and a flat,eh? Sounds like a scene from L'Auberge Espagnole. Hope they are gentlemen. :-)
Spectacular, Eric! I once stood in that spot, and thought the tower was beautiful it wasn't anything like this! What a photo! (New desktop.)
ReplyDeleteSweet Guille, I was only kidding. I hope I didn't hurt your feelings. You could never be mean!
Coltrane,
ReplyDeleteI was just headed over to your place to see how many over a thousand it is now.
The only comparison I really wanted to make was how artistic Monsieur Tenin can be and with what good company he can be in. Also, the mood of the celebratory crowd probably beats the mood of Whistler's if one could could imagine entering the painting as well as one can the photo.
OK. "Coltrane_lives" then Wikipedia for Mallarmee.
EIFFEL TOWER!
ReplyDeleteEIFFEL TOWER!!
EIFFEL TOWER!!!
(I want to play, too!)
*drool*
ReplyDeleteSeriously, Eric, I'm not sure there are enough superlatives to do this one justice. You've quite outdone yourself.
ReplyDeleteAnd Suzy, look what you started with your ET ET ET!
tall gary -- great link.
Guille -- I can remember when the Canal St. Martin quartier was the last place anyone wanted to live. Hope you and your roomies will be very happy there!
What a glorious, amazing, stunning, spectacular, magnificent, superb, fantastic, marvelous, brilliant, wonderful, fabulous, outstanding, incredible, extraordinary photo!
ReplyDelete(14, in honor of 14 Juillet :-) )
This picture seems to be moving all of us, but it is the motion you caught with the fireworks and ET in the backround that puts a spell on me. Corinne LIVES in Paris and she was not jaded but spellbound by your photo.
ReplyDeleteMonica: you beat me to it when it came to commenting on Suzy. I imagined her in bed with a hot water bottle on her head because she couldn't be there after looking at the photo.
Guille: The apartment we rent is on canal St. Martin--Quai Valmy, between Jaures and Louis Blanc. Are you near there? I love that area.
Welcome Sharon! Now we have 2 commentators from PHX!
BTW, I haven't even put away as much as the food in my luggage yet...I ran to PDP to see what I missed!
Eric I agree with pont girl. please zazzle this and the blue ET one too!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea pont girl!
Oooooh!
ReplyDeleteAhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Oooooh!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Michael! I've missed you! It's very nice to "see" you. What's new?
ReplyDeleteMICHAEL! *hugs Michael* Oh I've missed you too. Poor coltrane has had to put up with me in your absence. ...Dang...go on, I'll give you a few minutes to run away.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Beautiful!! We had our own Fete de la Bastille here in SF..foie gras, canard, et profiteroles..but we did not have the pyrotechnical display that you enjoyed. I have never spent July 14th in Paris...one day soon, and I hope it isn't too far off!!
ReplyDeleteMichael...Soosha has been charming as always, but she has indeed missed you. Hope all is well!
ReplyDeleteThis photo has so much character... I just love it.
ReplyDeleteColtrane
Did you hear the "ahhhs" an "ohs"?That is Michael waking up!
Cali
How many times have you been GF the past month? 30 times? lol
Hey Sharon, welcome to PDP. This is like an all-day-and-night-party... no matter when you come here, there is always someone for you to party with!
ReplyDeletePHX (I am pronoucing Phonenix in my head, promise!)
Say "Hello" to Eric from me and David.
And guys
ReplyDeleteDid you know that today is a special day for Kelly?
She is celebrating her 100th post on her blog genevadailyphoto.blogspot.com/
OOOOOOHHHHHHHH.....SIGH....
ReplyDeleteThis photo and video are amazing.
I can't say any more....
Coltrane, which scene of L'auberge Espagnole? :))
ReplyDeleteTss Michael pops up once a week and always have girls' screams for him. It's unfair. Maybe we (girls) have to disappear for a while and then men will scream our names. :)
Sweet Petrea there is no worry! I'm never offended. And I know that I'm a brat, so anyway I deserved it!!
PHX, I'm on the quai de Jemmapes (20 meters from it, Av de Richerand). You "rent", you mean that you always rent there, right (if I well remember) ?
Good morning to all.
I would have been there if the fricking Paris Tranportation company could just do something right.
ReplyDeleteGuille
ReplyDeleteDon't you dare to disappear!
We could not live without you!
x
that's BEAUTIFUL!! LOVE it!! :)
ReplyDeleteWay to go Kelly...100th post and many more I'm sure! (thanks Rose) And speaking of posts, if you love everything New Yorkish check out Alexa's fairly recent blog. Her posts are fantastique!
ReplyDeleteLOL, Rose. One day I actually waited for someone else to comment before I did, but when I saw this photo I couldn't resist and seized the moment!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a wonderful photo Eric. It is now on my desktop!
ReplyDeleteHehe Rose, I was fishing for this compliment! (actually I was not, but thanks you! ;) )
ReplyDeleteI've heard that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so ET! ET! ET! all you want, folks. I get first dibs, though.
ReplyDeleteGuille, I am so jealous of you! Brat!
The family and I celebrated the 14th on the 15th by going to our favorite brasserie, The Left Bank. I HIGHLY recommend it to any northern Californian near one of their 5 locations. This month, they are featuring a menu from Paris!
www.leftbank.com
Thanks for the lovely fireworks. We could not see fireworks in San Francisco because of the heavy fog. That happens almost every year.
ReplyDeleteI watched the firworks live via webcam - it was fabulous! Same with the picture! Love it :)
ReplyDeleteOh My God ... you have outdone yourself yet again. Smooches your way.
ReplyDeleteMichael!!! Oh yes i'm screaming too. I love to scream Michael's name. Sometimes very late at night. LOL !!
ReplyDeleteEric (enough of this naughtiness) this photo is fantastic! I wish i had been there.
Oh, Eric, this picture makes me swoon. Bravo! The video is wonderful too. For some reason it brings to mind Chagall.
ReplyDeleteNICE PHOTO!
ReplyDeleteNICE PHOTO!
NICE PHOTO!
Eric, I ditto the clever Ms M's comments. There are not enough superlatives for this shot (although Ms M came up with 14 for the 14th!).
ReplyDeleteAre those lighted screens all cameras and camera phones? Now THAT'S a true 21st century scene! Bravo. And thank you for bringing us right there on the lawn with you.
-Kim
Eric, Do you know if the fireworks were done by Groupe F?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.groupef.com/swffr/groupef-fr.html
It reminds me of their work -- innovative.
An Eiffel Tower photo makes everybody show up! Nice to see Michael and dear Lynn here!!!
ReplyDeletePhx, it´s impossible not to associate EF with Suzy isn´t it?!
Coltrane I didn´t realized it but now that you mentioned, yeah this picture is a great tribute!
Guille!!!!!!!!! How´s the trip going? Eating a lot of sushi??!!
No Lois, it was apparently "Prestatech-Artifices" - with a little help from Alain Carbonneau from Montreal (since, this year, even though I'm sure nobody noticed, the firework was supposed to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the creation of Quebec).
ReplyDeleteFunny post, Jeff I'm LOL! :)
ReplyDeleteI am in love! Thank YOU, Eric!!! This is amazing and I so wish I was there.
ReplyDeleteAnd they celebrate France's National Day is the strangest of places too.
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFUL photo! And I am looking forward to checking out the video!
ReplyDeleteHow long has this tradition been in place? I know I did not see such a display when I was in Paris for Bastille Day in 1991, and I cannot imagine that I would have missed it if it were taking place. I did enjoy a free performance of l'Orchestre de Paris and the American Ballet Company at the Opera Garnier (my favorite building in Paris!) that day; being there and singing La Marseillaise with everyone as the orchestra played beneath the Chagall is one of my favorite memories!
Tres Jolie, Eric!
ReplyDeleteOh you know how much I LOVE the Eiffel Tower, this shot is amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteLooking at this one again more closely now, I just noticed the lights in the crowd coming from the cameras and camera phones that mimic the fireworks around the Tour Eiffel. It's such a cool effect.
