Today is the 1st of August and the theme day within the CDP community is... Take away store. You probably expected a typical around the corner French take away place, but instead here is the most global fast food company you can think of! Why? 1) because take away is not very French 2) because I just read the news that McDonald's France has had its best year ever since their start in France! Which is ironic since, when they thought of extending to Europe, the McDonald's management never thought the French would go for such a food... The truth is... "they're loving it!" If you wan to see real local take away places, check what the CDP community has to offer.
Strange Eric that the French with such a rich culinary heritage also embrace McDonalds... Shaky!
ReplyDeleteSome say it's because it's cheap and since wages are not very high in France, it makes it easy for families to eat out.
DeleteIt's become a real rarity for me to go in there anymore!
ReplyDeleteI can understand!
DeleteI too am surprised it does so well in France.
ReplyDeleteI know it's really very surprising.
DeleteI bet the French McDonald's food is different from the American. Really, it's inedible! The only time in my life I ever got food poisoning was at a McDonald's, and I've never been back.
ReplyDeleteI don't know really, but I remember that the French manager put a lot of emphasis on promoting "health food" and to lower the number of calories intake. I remember that France was one of the first - if not the first - countries to introduce salads instead of fries, they also had whole grain Big Macs (now discontinued), fruit salads, etc. All this because the French are very particular about their food intake and are terribly afraid to gain weight so McDonald's had to adapt.
DeleteBut you can still find fries and greasy chicken nuggets if you want of course!
You're right Petrea. I had a cheeseburger in a McDonald's in Paris (it's a long story as to why but I won't go into that) and it was positively delightful. The next time I had McDonald's was is Iowa and it was positively awful.
DeleteAt least the French kids are lovin' it. Perhaps it's another way to rebel.
ReplyDeleteI've truly never understood how anyone can eat food from McDonalds but the figures are there to prove that I am a minority ...
ReplyDeleteI will admit to eating there ONCE. I had the grandkids alone that day and it was pouring rain. They said the Happy Meals tasted just like home and the "toy" included was a book which made me happy. My meal was far from good and for what it cost, I could have had a croque Monsieur at a Parisian café and vin! No McDos for me again. V
ReplyDeleteTry a Mc Wrap with no bias and tell me you don't like it!
DeletePoint of pride: I have never had a McD burger—and no, I'm not a vegetarian. You'd have to hit me over the head and drag me to a McDonald's in Paris! Or maybe give me grandchildren, like Virginia. :~}
ReplyDeleteFirst time I've seen a walk up takeaway counter at McDonald's! Like the idea.
ReplyDeleteHey, there's a free bathroom downstairs at the one near the Luxembourg Gardens. That counts for a lot to tourists.
