Come on baby come on, take this photo!

I couldn't help smiling when I saw this Nymph in the Louvre gardens 3 days ago. She looks so modern, so inviting, that it's hard to believe she was sculpted in 1930. Anyway as you probably have guessed already her "father" is Aristide Maillol and you cannot miss her if you wander around the Louvre (not far away from the Pyramid). It's Monday, in 2 days I'll be on the plane, far, far away from Paris...

  1. The title of this post is just perfect! Very funny, the statue really seems to be saying something like that!

Beautiful garden, as usual, and Maillol sculptures makes it even more charming.

  4. Glad to see this one is not being used as a coat rack. Last time I was in Paris, some young people were hanging their clothes and bags on the arms of some of the statues and having a picnic (ahem) underneath.

  5. Monica, you are as bad as Eric, you minx! Mmmm, a great choice? Is it Brasil???

Tomate: was this by any chance a PDP picnic?

  6. ROFL, Anomyme.. I'm afraid not. I said "young" people, remember? ;)

  7. "I said "young" people, remember?"

It all being relative you might be young compared to me and it's all a state of mind, no? Besides, since when do the young have the presence of mind to drape bags and clothes instead of leaving them strewn about? So much for impetuous youth.

  8. She looks like she is saying, Can you believe that I get to live here 24/7?

Come on baby, tell us where you're going on vacation!! ;)

  9. O still can't believe these statues in some of the prime tourist places that I haven't come across yet. When you say she was made in the 30's, which would put her in her 70's no? She doesn't look a year over 20 if you ask me.

  10. 1st, I love the photo and subject matter. Very classy.

2nd, I wanted to tell you Eric that I just received in the mail my set of stamps I ordered from your Zazzle store. They are fantabulous and I can not wait to use them. I could go mad buying PDP things!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3rd, Welcome home Monica you lucky devil you.

  11. She is saying exactly that - what a great title! You were very decent to cut the photo just where you did Eric. Even the expression on her face is challenging isn't it.

So. Must be the Seychelles i reckon - am i right?

  14. Shame I didn't get to see her when I was there last year. We were in and out of the Louvre so fast, making sure we didn't miss our flight.

    She looks pretty!

  16. Michael .... "She doesn't look a year over 20 if you ask me." When was the last time you saw Cher?? Come to think of it, they may be sisters, although the statue has the more mobile complexion

  17. So; what are we going to get then while you are away?
    1. No pictures at all
    2. A stock of pics kindly loaded by A. N. Other.
    3. Photos of your destination.

Personally i'd quite like a mixture of 2 and 3 - how interesting!

  18. I didn't know you were selling stuff for PDP. How cool. I am going to have to check it out. Maybe get something for my wedding there.

  19. There are so many sculptures in the Tuilleries that there will always be a surprise, I think. And yes, Michael, she looks like a hard body to me.

I'm glad our Brazilian travelers made it home safely. I need another vacation, but the dead tree in my yard must be removed and, well, there goes my Chicago Jazz Festival money. Oh wahhh!

  20. Jeff I'm very glad too, safe and sound and with a boatload of sweet memories from Paris!!!

Eric is so lucky don't you think? He gets to travel on vacation several times a year! ahhh the good life..!

  21. The good life, indeed, Monica! Hey, is he coming your way for holiday? To my immediate memory, last year was Turkey, then Boston, then San Francisco, then Oslo. . .now where? Well, Eric, almost anywhere you go you'd receive an ambassador's welcome from some happy PDP reader nearby.

What an artist to create such a lively presence. She's got that come hither look, alright, and very contemporary expression. Imagine a tatt or two, a nose jewel and eyebrow ring and she'd walk right off the pedestal and down the street. Maybe go with you on holiday! Have fun packing and best wishes for a very relaxing time away.

  22. Just finished perusing the weekend’s posts and this one today. All great ones!!! Have a wonderful vacation Eric. Wherever you go I wish you lots and lots of sunshine. Friends in Australia get three months vacation. Seems as though you are right up there with them!!!

Monica, welcome back!!! Lovely photos of you and the “guys”. Up at the cabin this weekend we watched the 1998 movie,THE AVENGERS with Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman, and when Steed (Fiennes) tells Ms. Peel (Thurman) not to take the macaroons because they’re Mother’s favorite, guess who I thought of. :)

  23. Nope Kim, Eric's not coming to Rio but to a place just as sunny!

Lorraine thank you! I'm a bit ashamed to say how many macarons (including the ones Eric gave me) I ate during my stay in Paris...

  24. Never be embarrassed about eating a macaron - they are little slices of pure heaven!!

  25. dear eric, 1930 IS modern.

I think what you meant is she looks contemporary. And sure, we use "modern" to mean "of our own time," "up to date." but the term definitely should not be used in opposition to the period between the wars-- because that is precisely what is known as the "modern" period in literature and the visual arts!

  26. Wonderful title, absolutely perfect for this photo. I agree, she does have a very contemporary look. And what a woman! Even though she hasn't been in a gym or worn a bra for 70 years, she is still in fantastic shape.
